21st Century Breakdown Single and Video Announced

This! I've said that since the beginning!

KYE is punchy and straight-out-of-the-gate, but 21CB is the title track, so it would've been fitting as a first single. Just like American Idiot was. Then again, Warning was released after Minority, so I guess this isn't so differernt.

Yeah, I suppose. I just thought it would make more sense for it to be the first video...to give people a feel for the album and such.

I thought Know Your Enemy & 21 Guns were both disastrous, so I really hope this one is better :/

Yeah, I agree with you. The song sort of sums up the ambition on this record, so it would've made a lovely first single. I'm just very curious/anxious for this video.

So, they will probably film it soon, on their time off. Can anyone estimate when it should be released? I can't remember the amount of time it took for KYE and 21 Guns to come out after filming them.

So Tré wasn't fucking with us when he said it was going to be the next single

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE VIDEO!

I actually think they did a great choice..

I wonder if Marc Webb will include Song of the Century at the beginning of the music video. It would make it seem more epic and exciting, imo.

I'm a little shocked it's not EJN. I was hoping for a single from each act...maybe they should just go on to do a video for every song. :D Why does there have to be a limit?

I'm sure EJN and others will get their chance soon.

:o Ohhh! I didn't think of that! Good thought!

I hope they do that! That would be amazing.

And, yeah, I'm pretty sure they'll do this at the VMA's. This is probably what Billie meant by it being "memorable." And I hope they kick off the show because if they do, that would make an amazing entrance.

Well I think they filmed 21 Guns in early June and it was out a few weeks later. So they could film it during September and hopefully it'll be out by Roctober

I'd say this video will be more time consuming, seeing as how it's longer and they will probably go with different scenarios to suit each part of the song.

Why the bloody hell has EJN been played so much on TV and stuff then? Tre even said he hoped it'd be a single. Could it be possible that the label was too afraid to release it because of it's content? As far as I can see they seem to like to market Green Day as a pretty safe band these days so the thought had crossed my mind before. Could that be possible? The idea depresses me.

21CB is a less angry song than EJN. I would have been happy with either one, but 21CB gives me this weird sense of hope about the future while EJN just makes me want to punch someone in the face and forget about the future. :P

But the lyrics in 21st CB are so mind blowing! :woot:

That depresses the shit out of me, but I wouldn't doubt that that happened.

I would think the record company wouldn't be too happy about EJN as a single choice, but I really wish that, if it Reprise did freak out, that they wouldn't have. I wish Green Day were allowed to release what they wanted too without the record company being so uneasy about it.

^^ I know its gonna be a single.

anyone remember when they played the first songs on kroq, somehow i have a feeling they were playing the ones that would become singles.

like KYE,21 guns, and now 21st century breakdown. EJN will be a video. and i think static age and american eulogy.

*i'll also be praying for an american Eulogy*

I think EJN could be 5th single, because they're going the fast song, slow song, like they did on AI

It was KYE, then 21guns, now 21cb, and it should be slow song, recording to that.

it doesn't really work like that.

don't be surprised if EJN or Static Age or Before The Lobotomy becomes a new single.

they couldnt have just stuck with EJN- throw in a couple burning churches and play music in those pope outfits and be done with it?

that is what everyone has in mind for it. i will love it if the director makes something else entirely.

OK, I am listening to 21st Century Breakdown right now and all I can say, is that the choice of 21CB as the next single is brilliant. I would have loved EJN, but seriously, the lyrics in this song are really needed right now. Let's hope the video to it rocks as much as this song does.

exactly my thoughts.

Yeah, I really think this video should have been done first. :ermm:

i really think they would've, but because of the 21st CB demo leaking, they didn't wanna do it anymore. and the next obvious one was Know Your Enemy.

Anyone who doesn't think it's single material or worth making a video for, go listen to it again NOW!

DO IT NOW.

I really hate the fact that if EJN would be released as a single, people would be up at arms about it just because it questions something people aren't supposed to question. It's a rocking song, and it's absolutly amazing, clever, and powerful, but because the entire song is based upon questioning the hypocracy of religion, I'm sure the record company is afraid to release it. And if Green Day did release it, a lot of religious people wouldn't be too happy.

I'm sad :(

im somewhat disapointed too Hermie, but think of it this way.

Would you rather have a full (or close to full) 21stCB with correct lyrics, or that wretched censored and re-written EJN going around?

i'd rather the band salvage their dignity and use this song the way it was supposed to be, than assimilate a different song just for it to be "mainstream approved".

silver lining hun :)

It always gives me chills when the end of Song of the Century turns into the beginning of 21CB. If it was in a video, I would probably cry

Yeah that is so true I can't picture 21st Century Breakdown without the lead in from Song of the Century so I really hope that Marc Webb is wise and includes it in the video.
