Rezurgam Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I've been praying for that one and Restless Heart Syndrome. I'm starting to doubt EJN will be a single, and that depresses me.Yeah RHS is single friendly. Love that song.
Hermione Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Did the label chicken out of releasing East Jesus Nowhere or something? Are they too scared to release it? This single choice is tame, unadventurous and extremely disappointing to me. The album is so diverse, exciting, and adventurous. Why are they being so pathetically safe with their singles? It doesn't represent the brilliance of this album at all. If I'd only heard the singles I'd be thinking, "Know Your Enemy isn't quite as good as American Idiot. 21 Guns isn't quite as good as BOBD. 21st Century Breakdown is nowhere near as good as Holiday. So this album must not be as good as the last one!"But the album is amazing! They have now released the 3 most conventional sounding songs on the album in a row though, so who's to know that? I'm at a loss :/
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Courtney did say that. She said it was confirmed.
Sarahnade. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Well, I did like the first couple Beyer did (AI was awesome! and how could you beat Holiday?! Tre in a dress, ffs!), but then he just went all big-headed I think and imo, went 'too much' with September. Marc Webb did which videos for them before this album? I want to say Waiting, but I'm not sure.Yup, he did Waiting. And I completley agree with you. Holiday is my favorite music video, haha. And AI is fantastic, along with BOBD and stuff. And I thought he would have a great vision for EJN, so I was really hoping for EJN to be the third single and have him direct it. For some reason, I just never thought of 21CB as being a 'single song.' I don't know. But it is an amazing song, and it's the title track, so it makes sense. When I first heard all the songs off the record, I thought KYE and 21 Guns would be singles, and I was right. But I didn't think 21CB would be one. I always thought EJN and The Static Age would be ones. They still have more singles to do, though, so who knows.

I'm at a loss.I don't really get where 21CB is a conventional sounding song at all. It has three different changes, and the lyrics are far from tame and unadventurous! People assume EJN is the strongest song in terms of risque lyrics but that's just an obvious choice. I agree with KYE and 21 Guns, but not with this one. It is an amazing song, so different from everything else you hear on the radio these days. The middle and last sections still give me goosebumps when I hear it.
jess123 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 ahhh I want EJN!!!!! its such a powerful song.. 21st century doesnt seem like its a good song for a single..
Sarahnade. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Yeah RHS is single friendly. Love that song.Yes! Especially with the "know your enemy" reference! People would hear that, and make a connection, and realize that lyric actually MEANS something.I don't want to bitch and moan or anything, because I do love the song 21CB, and I think it'll make an interesting video (Assuming Marc Webb won't fuck it up) and I'm really excited for it. I just wish it maybe would've been released later, after EJN, if they do release that ever, or something. I don't know.
LibertyBelle. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 oo, good news.I'm hoping its a good one, I'm having a hard time trying to picture what it's going to be like though, I want to see Christian and Gloria come to life.
greenday801440 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 21CB is a good choice, though I think EJN would be good as well.I thought EJN would be an excellent single to make a fun video for where the boys just have fun, kind of like what they did for the Holiday video....But..... 21CB is still a great song to make an interesting video for... I would love to see another video like Holiday where they're just having fun and being goofy!
Angela. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Alright, I'm not going to lie. This was my reaction when I saw this thread: "Fuck! Fuck! No..." I mean, I love 21stCB, but I wanted EJN to be the next single so damn bad... But I have confidence in GD and I think that this will be a good video.
GDM Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 It's a 5:09 song. They are going to have trim it, maybe.
Heather! Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I would have preferred EJN. Oh well. This song is good too, but I don't think it's as single-worthy.
Fuzz Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 It's a 5:09 song. They are going to have trim it, maybe. They'll probably do like they did JOS. Make a full video and leave it up to tv channels to cut it if they want. I too would have preferred EJN. Here's hoping it'll be a video next year.

The same for me.I clicked this thread and my heart was racing, and I saw the first post, and I was just like "Really? ..Seriously? No EJN? "But a few moments later, I was like, "Meh, alright."
Chelsea Hotel Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I still think that if Green Day do EJN as a song release off the album, John Roecker should do it.This.As much as I was looking forward to EJN, this'll be good too.
norcalgreendayfan Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 It's a 5:09 song. They are going to have trim it, maybe.Nah I don't think there will be a need to trim it at all, I think they can keep it at it's current length and it would be just fine after all JOS and WMUWSE were both around 9 minutes and those were originally full length before stations started trimming the videos
GDM Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 OK, I am listening to 21st Century Breakdown right now and all I can say, is that the choice of 21CB as the next single is brilliant. I would have loved EJN, but seriously, the lyrics in this song are really needed right now. Let's hope the video to it rocks as much as this song does.
Isabel Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Yeah, I really think this video should have been done first.
Guest jetblackheart Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Anyone who doesn't think it's single material or worth making a video for, go listen to it again NOW!
Sarahnade. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 It just kind of sucks because there are 18 songs on this record, and they are all brilliant. There is a lot of material, and it's a little daunting to look at and to try to pick singles out of it. At least, it would be to me.
Lauren Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I don't think there will be a 5th single though. If there is, it's going to be something that's almost under the radar like Jesus of Suburbia was.there's a chance though because 21st Century Breakdown has a LOT of songs. 5 singles isn't even 1/3 of the album, where as 5 singles was more than 1/3 of American Idiot.
Sarahnade. Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Yeah, I really think this video should have been done first. This! I've said that since the beginning!KYE is punchy and straight-out-of-the-gate, but 21CB is the title track, so it would've been fitting as a first single. Just like American Idiot was. Then again, Warning was released after Minority, so I guess this isn't so differernt.

The middle and last sections still give me goosebumps when I hear it.I don't think any of the songs on the album are really conventional, but it's nowhere near as unconventional as most of the album. It's not the song that's unadventurous but the choice of it as a single, it's a safer option than nearly any other song on there would've been.Even though I love the song, I honestly can't see it making much of a splash. To me it seems as though Green Day could have made a real statement with the singles from this album and stirred things up a bit after being away for so long, but there's no way that's going to happen now. I'm sad
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 nobody kill me or anything, but i kinda rather see a video for 21st century breakdown than EJN. I mean, isn't the album ABOUT 21st century breakdown?? thats what i think.but of course,EJN is kinda better, but i think the VIDEO would be better as for the 21st CB plot.
