So much for freedom of expression. I hate radio stations which is why I don't listen anymore.

It's all pathetic bullshit.

that's what i was afraid of, that when they release EJN they would have to censure EVERYTHING u.u well, at least people would hopefully buy the cd, as someone said :/

The new album is so exciting and ambitious, yet everything released from it so far has been the tamest, safest and least ambitious possible option every time. Releasing the two most conventional sounding songs on the album with uninteresting videos, followed by this pathetic censoring (whoever's responsible for it).......it's just so disappointing and doesn't represent this brilliant and diverse album at all.

THIS.

21CB is SO fucking unique and interesting. There's NOTHING even remotely like this album out right now, and yet all of the singles so far have been songs that have already been done a million times before. It sounds just like all of the other stuff on the radio. I mean...I'm not saying that Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns are crappy songs, because they're definately not. They're still amazing, but there could have been better more ambitious singles, like EJN. But even EJN isn't the most ambitious and unique song on the album.

What I would like to see as singles would definately be, American Eulogy. That song to me is SO TRUE to the world today. The lyrics and the meaning to it is PERFECT. Everything about the song is fucking epic and everything is just thrown at you. Seriously. "Mass hysteria in the modern world"? How more fucking true and amazing is that!? It's just such a perfectly put together song. It's catchy, it's upbeat, yet it's not too repetitive and cliche. It's unique and it's unpredictable. It's exciting and ambitious, AND IT MEANS SOMETHING. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that song. It would be just amazing to hear that song on the radio. To actually hear Mike's voice on the radio! Holy shit. lol And the beginning and the end is so perfect for the radio. Just imagine all of the sudden hearing Billie's static-y voice on the radio singing Song of the Century and then the ending is just as amazing. THAT'S the kind of song I want as a single.

The Static Age would also be another great single in my opinion, and Restless Heart Syndrome is amazing also and it would also connect with "Know Your Enemy" because Billie says that in RHS. And since Know Your Enemy is already a single, a lot of people might catch that connection. And I also kind of think that RHS is the "climax" of the album. It's so powerful, yet slow and it connects to KYE.

I like the way you think! Any of those would be fabulous. I love KYE and 21 Guns too, but I can't wait to see one of the even more exciting and unconventional songs released to stir things up a bit and show off that album to the full like it deserves.

I do REALLY like East Jesus Nowhere though, I'm really looking forward to it coming out even if it's censored. The lyrics, the bendy guitar, the whispering, the raunchy middle part, the whole song - it ticks enough exciting and ambitious boxes for me :D

This!

I'm kind of angry with everyone now, because Green Day keep releasing the "worst" (not that they're the worst, but you understand my idea) songs as singles. If they release RHS, everyone will FINALLY understand that Know your enemy has a context, that means something, and everyone will stop with the "Why the fuck you like green day? they don't even know more than 3 words!" ¬¬

I totally agree with you!

It's funny because Know Your Enemy, to me...it doesn't really represent what the whole album is about, I guess technical wise. I mean, the meaning to KYE definately represents the whole album, and it even connects with Restless Heart Syndrome. Every single song on the album can be reflected back to KYE, so I get why they picked it as the very first single. But...it's almost too catchy...Like, when people hear this song, yeah there's definately meaning to the song, but I don't think people notice the meaning so much just because of how catchy and repetitive it is. For it being so repetitive it almost makes it loose its meaning, especially on the radio. People will listen to the song and jam to it in their cars and sing along to it, but the phrase "Do you know your enemy?" doesn't get across to some people. It's like, it's just a simple statement now, there's nothing special about it to them.

It's kind of like saying, "I love you" like a million times a day. A phrase like "I love you" has so much meaning to it, and yet when it's said so many times, it just kind of becomes just a statement. Just another thing to say at the ends of phone calls. It just slips right off the tougne. There's no effort to it.

Now, with American Eulogy, like I said before, It's catchy, but not too catchy, it's impossible to miss the evident meaning to the song. It's something new to people, because Mike sings in it. They're going to think, "Hey? Who is that? This is Green Day...?" The only thing that really is repetitive about the song is the "Mass Hysteria" and the "I don't wanna live in the Modern World", but the ending is so fucking unique interchanging the two and putting them together like that to form, "Mass hysteria in the modern world." It's just amazing.

But yeah, I'd really love to hear EJN as a single also. It would be so badass.

Exactly! You took the words right out of my mouth!

Seriously, though. That's exactly what I think as well.

If someone wants to some up all the details into a nice list about how EJN is edited, I will gladly make the radio edit using my handy dandy instrumental and acapella tracks

LMAO. Thanks. You rock too!

I have the what *should be* radio edit version. The only thing changed is the "god damn thing" part. It's now ".... I never asked you a ____ damn thing!" but the ______ part is filled with instrumental. Sounds like a professional radio edit

PM me if anyone would like

Edit: In fact... I have all the tracks edited (except A.E.)

That's not GD's fault. They censored redneck in AI.

It's the radio, Green Day have no control over that.

Whatever, just the fact that it's on the radio is awesome!

I also hated it when the radio cut like, 3 minutes of JOS. Now that realllly pissed me off.

So radios seem to be against political statements that mean something. Good to know.

That sort of serves a less ridiculous purpose of saving time.

Completely agree with these posts. I love EJN and I think it would be an OK single (although I'm starting to jump on the American Eulogy bandwagon like you guys), but I'm worried the censorship may hurt its chances. I'm not surprised this is happening, but it still sucks.

There's voice over technology, Green Day didn't necessarily consent.

yep and its called 'warner brothers'.

everyone's making a fuss and all, buts its not unusual. i'll survive.

I requested it on radio 1 this morning and they didn't play it  i'm gonna ring up later, i really wanna see if they'll censor it over here.

Also AE would make an epic single

I heard Zane Lowe play on Radio 1 months ago and they didn't censor it then. I doubt they would now. I think its an American thing - or just that radio station being terrified of a reaction.

Was going to request EJN again, but after reading that I requested Dominated Love Slave instead, they won't play it, but i live in hope.

I so agree with you! 21CB is an amazing album, and I can't wait to see those songs becoming singles too. Let's hope!

Before The Lobotomy is an awesome song too in my opinion. It would make a good single.

Let's just hope they won't change EJN that much. It's too great to be changed :)

i been looking at this 4 a while and dont really know if im more pissed, shocked or disapointed. havent heard yet. this has always been 1 of my favorite on the new album and in terms of bad langauge, theres not even a f-word!!! always thought of the edited version 2 be like w/out the offensive words but wtf about changing it? sure that the band is pretty pissed at this, and i can only imagine what they must gone thru to change it ,after all that hard determination aginst walmart. i dont blame them, is this rediculus comercialised world thats fucked up, radios been playing crappy rap hiphop song 4 ages and thinks a song like ejn is "unclean"? fuck it !

totally understands " I DONT WANT TO LIVE IN THE MODERN WORLD"

is this on the internet

Posted

By this way... If AE is released as a single, the song will flow like this:

From: "I dont wanna live in the modern world"

To: "I Just wanna live in the modern world"

Posted

right, or just "i__want 2 live in the mordern world"

This is exactly how i feel. I think The Static Age should be a single, because after reading this thread i realised that the lyrics are actually meaningful, but there doesn't seem to be a lot there that radio stations can actually censor. The same goes for American Eulogy.
