Astrid. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 We're just guessing why it's been edited. No one knows the answer to it. We'll have to wait for official news about it.Still, I want to hear the lyrics.
SlappyDJ1 Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 WE SHOULD ALL CALL IN! THEY WOULD HAVE TO PLAY IT THEN! AND IM RECORDING IT! 713-212-5945!
jose armstrong Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 This is irritating. I expected it to be 'bleeped' or whatever, but to *change* it? That pisses me right off. You can play 'Crazy Bitch' by Buck Cherry, but not this? CLOSER by NIN got airplay without lyric changes for christs sake!to be honest I didn't expect any part of the song to be censored.
somedaygirl Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 I just explained how it works.Meh, they're in the mob mentality stage, can't be reasoned with.John, I understand but I'm asking what the legal authority is for rewriting someone's work and then faking that into a song without their permission. The station's writ-twits know what that parameter I'm sure...and I can't think that's acceptable under copyright law. Which leaves few possibilities - either the band did it or the station did with the band's permission. Either of those isn't pretty.
Clockwise Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I really doubt they recorded new vocals for a censored radio version. Kinda seems ridiculous.

jose armstrong Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 In the studio, vocalists usually sing lyrics in a lot of different ways and record all of them until they decide what they want. Most likely - Warner sent these demo vocals to radio stations for editing.this and my previous statement fit.

Tubbie Head Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I don't think they would record a censored version either That must be that radio station.. At least I HOPE SO!If not.. Billie and me need to have a really serious conversation xDand I also didn't know we had an offcial word about EJN being the next single! =0

thisisAB Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 and I also didn't know we had an offcial word about EJN being the next single! =0My thoughts exactly. I thought that was just speculation. How was EJN a single that's been confirmed for months?
Modern Zero. Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 My thoughts exactly. I thought that was just speculation. How was EJN a single that's been confirmed for months? This. Last thing I knew was that people were thinking that EJN was the next single, but I never heard it actually being confirmed......and it's on the radio now too? When did all of this happen....?
amy_runs Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 There is no proof they have re-written anything yet. After all these years, why would they?Exactly. I don't think they would...
Sharmellow Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Well, I don't know about the radio, but my dad said technically on cable TV they can say whatever they want. However, radio stations and TV shows want listeners/viewers, and if they leave everything uncensored, it will lower that number because most parents won't want their kids listening to that stuff. We blame the parents then. Once I'm a parent, I wouldn't really give a shit if my kids listened to songs with swears and whatnot.
NowhereBound Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 That's stupid  ...I can say more about it, but everyone pretty much has the same opinion so, yeah...
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 What's the point of this being released if (I'm assuming) both Green Day and Warners knew it would be censored ? It's obviously a controversial song and they must have known it wouldn't get played in it's original form. You can't rail against Wal-Mart with a straight face while your record company allows your song to be censored however the radio stations like behind your back. Also, this isn't going to do very well is it ? The two most radio friendly songs off the album have already bombed massively in the UK and another butchered song isn't going to help.
somedaygirl Posted August 30, 2009 Author Posted August 30, 2009 IMO, ENJ is closest to Holiday in feel and playability. It's a logical choice, and like Holiday it has bits here and there that need to be scrubbed to make it past the FCC (ex. faggot, on many US stations). I think ENJ'll be huge - I just hope they rethink this particular edit. There's Longview. YAY!
blitzkriegdeb Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 The problem with censorship today is that people are so frightened to play anything controversial that they edit anything that might piss off some nutjobs. You can't exactly blame the people though, because you know if they leave it unedited they will either a) lose their jobs or b) get phone-raped by angry listeners who found it offensive. But some of you guys are blowing this way out of the water. It's a song about blindly following religion, of course it's going to be censored. And about the whole Wal-Mart thing, that's because they wanted to censor the WHOLE album, not just one song. I'm sure GD don't have a problem with radio-edits, as long as it doesn't ruin the meaning of the song.Besides, if it catches on as a popular song, people will just want to go and find the uncensored version anyways, so it really doesn't matetr either way.
MitchBob Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Ugh. This sucks. I don't mind a couple of words being edited, but not heaps like you're saying. The lyrics aren't even that bad, the rap shit they play these days is worse.
