I'm too lazy and tired to read this whole thread. But I do think that if Cigarettes and Valentines was released instead of American Idiot, it wouldn't have been as much of a success. I'm basing this off of what the band has said. This place might even have a lot less people here, since a majority of you became fans of Green Day during the AI era.

As one of those fans you're talking about, I agree. And frankly, since I probably wouldn't have gotten into the band's older stuff were it not for AI, I'm glad AI was released because I really enjoy being a fan!

Just because the masters may have been stolen doesn't mean they didn't have demos, written notes, etc.

That and the fact they would have practiced it enough to memorize some of the songs...

In your opinion, would a song like Cigarettes and Valentines even compare to American Idiot? I mean American Idiot alone made a huge impact on teenagers around the world and set a bold statement lyrically, do you think that Cigarettes and Valentines would have done the same based on what you heard? I don't know if I'm getting my point across to well because I'm pretty bad at explaining things but hopefully you understand my question.
