Rezurgam Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 who cares?About Canada?Yeah, I don't see much marketing in California as well.
Maddy. Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 hehe, Holland sucks too. It's like living under a rock. Even the Dutch MTV sucks (not that I watch it.) only seen KYE twice and 21 Guns just once on TMF (stupid music station that only plays shit and GD sometimes) No adverts, 1 21st CB CD in the rack at the local music store, (13 American Idiot CD's )I wanna live in the States !!!! Actually not really, twilight sucks.
mallorymaloney Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I'm confused. I thought everyone hated the fact that Green Day 'sold out'? Now you guys are raging because there's not enough marketing about 'em?Nah, I'm just kidding. I actually agree, in a way: Back in the American Idiot days, Green Day were fucking everywhere, man. You couldn't walk into a store without seeing thing like ...Green Day notebooks, Green Day jewellery, Green Day posters, Green Day on the cover of every single teenie magazine, Green Day on tee shirts, and of course Green Day on the TV, Green Day on the radio at least three times a day, yadda yadda yadda ...But now, in the 21st Century Breakdown era, you can take my paragraph above, and replace the words 'Green Day' with 'Twilight Jonas Brothers High School Musical Camp Rock Hannah Montana'. Because that's all you see when you walk into stores now.Pretty depressing, to be honest.
nimrod-41 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i agree - i haven't heard a single mention of 21CB on tv (although i only have around 2 music channels), it's so annoying! i'm just looking forward to when they come over to the UK in october - hopefully then they'll go on some chat shows and stuff, and be more prominent.I'm pretty sure Jonathan Ross' show starts again in October, so that might be good timing. Also, wasn't there news a few months ago that they got booked on Jools Holland?... What ever happened to that?...
The Disappearing Boy Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i was thinking about this the other day. i have seen them on telly twice. once on abbey road and once when the kye vid was on. actually i saw them today as part of an advert for a kerrang cd. other than that, there has been virtually nothing.
Nele Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i just realize that they are on the radio pretty much now.
Lauren Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I feel that way about the US, actually. I've never even heard 21 Guns on the radio or saw the music video on TV. I heard KYE once on the radio and saw it on TV 3 times.
Kayfabe Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I feel that way about the US, actually. I've never even heard 21 Guns on the radio or saw the music video on TV. I heard KYE once on the radio and saw it on TV 3 times. That's a fail on your part. I've seen 21 Guns twice (once they were on rock #1 ) in the UK and once in Portugal. It's Portugal, guy.
Jaymee!! Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I've never seen 21 Guns on tv ONCE, and only saw a brief clip of KYE when Much was doing a quick 30 second recap of the top 5 songs on the chart. After being a single for nearly a month and a half, it finally made it to #5.The marketing this album around really does blow. I suppose they're just coat-tailing off the success of AI.
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I know this isn't exactly a scientific test, but I've been off work this week and I haven't seen them on any of the video channels or heard anything on the radio. As I've said before, I don't think political rock is really 'in' at the minute. People seem to be wanting more light hearted dancey/poppy stuff which is pretty much the opposite of Green Day.

Lots of computerized sounds and light techno. Definitely not Green Day
-Billiejoezee- Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 that really sucks if there isnt no advertising over there. here in L.A well there was posters, billboards, and stuff all over bus benches about 21st century breakdown. (i stole a poster from a light pole. )
tvrman Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 At or close to release I saw several ads, lots of KYE airplay and of course the Abbey Road session. Since then nothing apart from the vids.Is this good or bad ? Well, I am not too bothered - surely most of the ads are by average bands and targeted at the youth who live off singles (no offence to anyone here). Great artists do not need the marketing to be appreciated and still fill their concerts. In fact I think it is a good thing otherwise GD will get involved in all the celebrity hanger-on crap.I am very disappointed (as you all know) at the good reception that the awful single version of 21Guns is getting - (big opportunity missed there).Right from the off, I figured any marketing here would occur when GD tour in October. But really it is no big deal. Kings of Leon, Nickelback, Theory of a Dead Man etc are getting too much coverage but does that make any better (ie even half decent) - No.The great artists always stand out, look at Glastonbury - everyone raving over the Boss and yet the standout performance was Neil Young performing A Day in the Life, my jaw literally crashed to the floor when I heard the opening bars.So what am I saying; quality shines through. GD do need the hype and let us not wish for something that is not needed.tvrman
heartscollide Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Green Day is EVERYWHERE in NZ.Like, there's posters everywhere for the tour. Almost every adbreak on tv has a Green Day ad either promoting the upcoming shows or 21st CB.I'm very happy with the marketing. : )oh and everywhere I go I either hear 21 Guns(pretty popular over here) or Know Your Enemy.
Isabel Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I wished they did more interviews over here instead of fucking off to Germany, France or the like. Just makes you wonder where the UK stand in their interests sometimes...Green Day (as a band) doesn't decide where to go for interviews, they have PR people who organise that stuff. The band don't arrange anything like that at all, I'd say they're merely handed a sheet and told where they're playing on tour, what countries they're going to and where they're doing interviews. Lets all blame the PR sons of bitches! Although I don't really mind toooooo much that they're not being promoted as much as they were during American Idiot. The reason they were so heavily promoted back then is because so many people had never heard of them and it gave them such huge success, nearly as if they were advertised as this shiny new punk-rock band that dropped overnight. Now, because of AI they're so famous and they sort of don't need as much promotion as before. I have seen a good amount of spray painted stencils of 21st CB around Dublin but I'd say that's the Warner Street Team doing it.
94th nimrod. Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Here in Norway, as far as I can tell, it's not too much about them, it have only been one interview (right after 21CB came), they're playing sometimes on the radio, but they're not overplayed. At the Norwegian music channel "Voice", they just play hiphop and stuff... And I have just found two posters of them in the Norwegian magazines
Nobody_Likes_You Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I think they'll make up for it on the UK tour. You'll probably get a lot of older songs.

You'll probably get a lot of older songs.Yeah, the UK tour will rock and I think they'll probably do some promotion while they're there!More interviews for us!
obsidianbutterfly Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I did hear them on Eastenders the other week, in fact they were on a couple times that week, not sure if thats a good sign though :whistling:
BadgerLALA Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 yeah same in sweden. i've only seen some advert for the album on tv but that's it really. dunno about the radio since I don't listen to it that much. The radio start to play 21 Guns now.
Hermione Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Oh my god I saw an advert for the album on TV last night! That's the first time I've seen an advert for the album on TV. And the second time I've heard Green Day mentioned on TV since all the 21st CB stuff started. Must've been a special occasion or something.Come back, Top Of The Pops and CD:UK!
Shadowiegirl Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 Compared to AI, I have seen little advertising. I think they (companies) thought it was going to sell itself. I can't turn the tv over without a KOL advert (full marks to them). 21CB - needs a bit of help.
