Drew Holiday Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I have heard it on the radio a ton of times in Jacksonville.I sing along
drumstick Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Here in Croatia it's all the time on tv and radio. It's number one since it came out! yeey
Echo Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 21 Guns is currently 21st in the Irish charts, but it's pissing me off that there are almost no promotions for 21st Century Break Down over here. Here's to hoping that it all picks up when they come here in October cause it's a great album imo
Chad is Rad Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I have DVR on my tv, and I record AMTV and AMTV2 so i can see any new videos when i wake up. Almost every single night they play 21 Guns once or twice on the show, and it's been like that since the video came out. So I don't see how it's not doing that well, I think it's doing fine. And it's just now starting to get radio airplay around here.
Peace and Rainbows Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I've heard it on the radio way to much, so yes it is probally very succussful
Hermione Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Is it out as a CD single in the UK? I'm not buying it but I went in the HMV that opened near me recently the other day to have a look at it, only to find they DON'T SELL SINGLES in there :/
Nova-Caine Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Is it out as a CD single in the UK? I'm not buying it but I went in the HMV that opened near me recently the other day to have a look at it, only to find they DON'T SELL SINGLES in there :/You can get it from Greenday.com online store, I got the bundle, CD Single, Vinyl and download for around £6.99 I think it was. x
RebelofSuburbia Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 here in Holland, not that good.. I usually have MTV playing in the background in the mornings (they actually do play mostly decent music here) and I used to hear Know Your Enemy at least once every morning. So far I've only seen 21 Guns once. Ah well, I really don't mind it not being that succesful tbh.Out of curiousity I just checked if it landed any charts, and behold- it made it to 93 on the singles top 100
vtashleyt Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I don't want to be a pessimist, but while I like the song, I think some of you are overestimating East Jesus Nowhere's single potential. It's great, but it's not the most accessible song...it would probably do decently well on the modern rock charts, but it's not a song that's going to get widespread top 40 play. 21 Guns was probably their best bet for a second single. That said, EJN would still have been a better lead single than Know Your Enemy. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I think Murder City is the obvious single on the album. I hope it's the one they release next.
Katarina. Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Here in The Netherlands, 21 Guns made it to #24 in the top 40....... Last week it was 29, so yay I guess Don't care that much about charts though.

Sarahnade. Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I haven't heard 21 Guns on the radio yet, but the radio stations around here suck.I hear KYE more often, and older stuff like 'When I Come Around,' and 'Brain Stew.'
vtashleyt Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 but as far as I know my band murder city will never be a single but EJN will be for sureI'm sure you're right, especially since EJN has been played at every concert and it's the better song. I was just thinking in terms of what seemed like it would perform best as a single.
Kayfabe Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I believe it's number 40 in the UK singles chart :/Trouble is this album hasn't really been promoted here. They've had airplay but other than that they've only done like one TV appearance (shown at about midnight) and a couple of radio interviews. It doesn't help that there's almost no music programmes left on TV these days, but the record company's done a bad job of this imo. Green Day is nowhere to be seen here.Wow, really?! I only watch Kerrang! anyway, it's much more positive because Green Day are maintaining top 5 (last i checked) on the ROCK charts
Juliette Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I've heard it twice on the radio. Granteed, I don't actually make an effort to listen to the radio so that's just counting in shops& in the car.
VanessaAyukawa Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 A bit of a flop. People who aren't into GD but are into the radio-friendly green day have been picking up on Last Night on Earth and East Jesus Nowhere. Those need to be singles, or they need to make better videos. I am sorry but KYE was very poor single choice and 21 Guns is a painful video.
woven_basketcase Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 the boston rock radio station plays 21 Guns at least ten times a day. i swear. its a bit annoying, mainly because i dislike the song. imo it was kind of a crappy single choice. but i can't really think of another song of of 21CBD that could be a good single.
tvrman Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Wow, really?! I only watch Kerrang! anyway, it's much more positive because Green Day are maintaining top 5 (last i checked) on the ROCK charts Scuzz is where it is at these days. Some days Kerrang is almost MOTR. tvrman

Certainly, KYE was not the best single choice, and I think them playing EJN on Letterman proves that there is an interest in making it the single.I think that for obvious reasons, EJN may be inaccessible as you stated. However, I always considered "Holiday" kind of inaccessible too due to some of the lyrics, and that did pretty well. Of course, more people may be offended by a dissenting opinion against religion rather than "Holiday"'s dissenting political opinion, but I don't know. It just seems to me that they're following the same single path as American Idiot: A hard rocking political song as the first single, a slower song as the follow up, another uptempo song as #3.
