Sharmellow Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 No, I don't mean that at all.I mean, the song is LITERALLY 30 seconds long. :/ That's fucked up.
thisisAB Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think that if EJN is the next single, it'll do better than 21 Guns and KYE combined, tbh.Yeah, let's hope so.meh who cares, if you like the band, go to the concert and fuck all. Really, that's what people did from 1995 to 2002 btw, the video is on every hour or so in hereI agree with the first point. Every hour? Where exactly is Fuckneckville They called it a 'remix'.That's beyond sad. Remixes ruin songs (usually).I don't listen to the radio that much, but I heard it on once on the Edge, the rock station (the day after the Hamilton concert). I think it was some top 20 songs thing, or maybe even 10, but I'm not sure. Off topic: the hosts were praising Green Day for the show. One wasn't a fan, but she went to the show anyway and was totally amazed at Billie Joe. The host other was a long time fan and was totally blow away and even got to meet Billie and I think Tre after the show. He put some pics on his blog along with a short review: http://www.edge.ca/Blogs/ABlogByAdam/BlogE...ntryID=10042594
Hermione Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 yes, but all the truly great records are underrated or took people years to notice (think Zen Arcade or Pinkerton) it's still relatively earlyYou are the voice of reason and right of course. The thing that annoys me though is if the record company had done a better job promoting it in the UK at least, it'd be doing better here right now. I'm sure Green Day themselves aren't that bothered, and yeah in time it'll get the recognition it deserves and that's what really matters. But it feels like they're letting the band down a bit, I hope they take a look at what they're doing with the promotion of this album and sort it out.
Juan Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Trust me, I have. If you're a fan from the post-Dookie era, then you probably have worn a Green Day T-Shirt back in the day and been a little self conscious. Moral of the story: The bigger they are, the harder they fall. Hopefully, the band has learned a thing or two since the 90's. Fortunately, they have established themselves enough that they'll avoid the backlash they faced the first time around.Every time you wear a band t-shirt there always people that don't like it, some that are apathetic and some that like it it happens to every band, in fact, Green Day is one of the few bands that have never released a shitty record, ask Metallica or AC/DC, Dylan or The Boss. People still wear them proud.I agree with the first point. Every hour? Where exactly is Fuckneckville 5 minutes away from Mattersville, 3 from the Dessert JungleYou are the voice of reason and right of course. The thing that annoys me though is if the record company had done a better job promoting it in the UK at least, it'd be doing better here right now. I'm sure Green Day themselves aren't that bothered, and yeah in time it'll get the recognition it deserves and that's what really matters. But it feels like they're letting the band down a bit, I hope they take a look at what they're doing with the promotion of this album and sort it out.Yeah, Warner was mediocre at best on the promotion, although I admit the street promos were somewhat cool or maybe the tour just has a bigger budget more so than promotion. And remember the AI tour was 2 year long, this one has been only 1
amy_runs Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I'm positive they don't play it as an intro, because they asked people to call in and say which they preferred; the whole song or just cut it down to 30 seconds. People called in and demanded the 30 second one because the whole song was dragging on and was boring. They play like, a few seconds of the first verse, a few seconds of the chorus, I don't even think they play the second verse so they go onto the bridge. It's so retarded. If I can find it, I'll post it up on here.WTF. That's messed up. And it's #26 on the Billboard Hot 100... http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100#/c...;order=position
Hayley Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've heard it on the radio about twice, but i've yet to see the video on TV.So i'd say it's not doing too well here.
Mar Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've heard it on the radio about twice, but i've yet to see the video on TV.So i'd say it's not doing too well here.I've never seen the video either. I hear the song a lot on the radio, though. The station in Detroit seems to play it all the time! I've heard it in Cleveland on multiple stations.
Laura! Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I've never seen the video either. I hear the song a lot on the radio, though. The station in Detroit seems to play it all the time! I've heard it in Cleveland on multiple stations.I've hardly heard anything around here. I've listened to 88.7 in Detroit a lot. Ever since 106.5 (The local alternative station) got booted off the air no one plays Green Day around here. I seriously think Toledo radio stations are against them. But I've seen the 21 Guns video a lot on MTV Hits and on Fuse.
Tiffx Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 It been played on the radio and music channels alot here. But people are just too fucking stupid these days to appreciate a work of art. and that is what Green Day's music is. Shallow music with no depth is what's 'cool'. Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas dominating the charts.
Jaymee!! Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 To be honest, it's a nice song to the fans. But to those in the 'real world', no one cares.Green Day had their spotlight during the AI era. No one gives two flying fucks about them now. It's all about Lady GaGa & Kings of Leon. Seriously.
Kate Austen Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 They chose the wrong single to lead with so nobody cares about the follow up. Quite sad, really.This.Also, I think Green Days time of being one of the Worlds biggest band has..well not come to an end, but I don't think they will capture that same "moment' like American Idiot did.
Jaymee!! Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 This. Also, I think Green Days time of being one of the Worlds biggest band has..well not come to an end, but I don't think they will capture that same "moment' like American Idiot did.It started with Dookie actually. They had their silver run with AI. I figure it'll be another 10 years before they have the bronze run.

NowhereBound Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Well on the Hot 100 on Billboard it's at #26......and on the Hot Modern Rock tracks it's #4. On Itunes it's #12 (in the U.S). So I guess overall, 21 Guns is doing pretty good, but I'm sure all of us would like the song to do better.
Juan Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 meh, it's not sad at all. Oh they're not AS famous. They're still pretty goddamn bigIf anything, it'll inspire them more or it will make them do another angry punk album, and I'm all up for that
Tiffx Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 True. It's actually quite sad.Yeah I would love to see them do amazing this time around. But the general public have found other artists to grasp onto. It is sad.
Juan Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 fuck, it's not sad at all. Phil Spector, Vanilla Ice, Whitney houston, that IS sad. This is normal rock business
simone18 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 the single will be released today in germany, i´m excited
Greenday_Aussie Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 No, I don't mean that at all.I mean, the song is LITERALLY 30 seconds long.Hmm, they change between the full and edited song here in Queensland. But, we are the Superior state I dont think they are releasing the CD single here either....Im thinking EJN will do very well. But so far, GD are stuck in the pre-AI era again, when it comes to public success. No one I know will give them the slightest chance here.

The company just don't care about our demographic, hence why it's gone! And yeah, 89X is where I hear it all the time, and they gave away tickets to the AH show, so I think they like them. Rock radio is in such a sad state these days.Maybe my selective viewing of MTV isn't enough for me to see the video, haha! And Buckeye sucks so we don't get Fuse

They gave us Fuse. And they play plenty of Green Day. But I miss The Zone dearly. they always played Green Day too. I remember the day that KYE came out. They played it once every hour or something like that. I'm boycotting local radio right now!
blitzkriegdeb Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 It's not doing horrible, but it's not doing wicked good either. As someone said earlier, they didn't really pick two good single choices so far. KYE and 21 Guns are good songs, but there's definatly better ones on the album.I think with the whole promotion thing, the problem is that there was HEAVY promotion from MTV for the KYE video, and seeing as though it bascially went nowhere, they wanted to hold back on playing the new single to see if it would gain popularity first. I think if EJN is the next single, and if they don't make a boring video for it (coughcough21gunscoughcough), it will do pretty good. It has a pretty catchy sound so it will help draw in new listeners.
Angie-Marie Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think that if EJN is the next single, it'll do better than 21 Guns and KYE combined, tbh.I sure hope so. I think 21 Guns would have done better if it had been released as maybe the third single with some stronger first two singles like EJN and pretty much anything but KYE. I have pretty conflicting feelings about chart performance. On one hand, I love Green Day dearly and want lots of success for them. But on the other hand, I really don't pay much attention to the charts since I've never trusted the general public to have particularly good taste. As long as Green Day makes music that I like, I'll listen and not give a shit what the Billboard charts have to say about them.
