Mar Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 My local rock radio station stopped playing it like 2 weeks after it was released due to the fact that the programming manager thought that it was a weak follow up to Know Your Enemy and that they weren't getting much response to the song. Plus it was being played a lot on Top 40 radioWow, the ONLY place I hear it around here is the rock station. I haven't heard GD on top 40 since WMUWSE was big!
JessLovesBoosh Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 21 Guns has been pretty god damn successful. Everywhere you'd go, there on the radio would be 21 Guns or Know Your Enemy.
Punx89 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 I think that 21 guns is very successful!!!!!!!!!!!

Smoothed Out Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I've hardly heard it on the radio & if i was watching official uk rock top 10 the presenter always managed to take the mick out of it when it was being shown. That really got on my nerves
Red Lights Flash Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Here (Belgium), it isn't that big in the charts but it still seems to get some airplay. I've heard it numerous times while I only listen to the radio rarely.
The Disappearing Boy Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 ive no idea tbh. you hardly ever hear of green day in england any more.
Salmonator. Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 I think it's doing really good.Alot of people that usually hate Green Day are in love with that song.
newsflash777 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Its been quite successful, but I can't help but compare it to the instant success BOBD... I haven't seen it on MTV hits in over two weeks now!I probably just have bad timing though /:
1000SlappyHours Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 In Australia, I see the music video quite often on TV. As for radio, i've heard it occasionally, not a huge success but i wouldn't call it a flop.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 21 guns is amazing and i think even people that r not green day fans can relate to it and love it. (i personally think its halarious that billie actually has trouble siging that high.....its wayy diffrent live then on the cd.)Just because he doesn't do it live all the time doesn't mean he can't. Get back to me when YOU can sing Falsetto without getting self-concious about it.21 Guns has been pretty god damn successful. Everywhere you'd go, there on the radio would be 21 Guns or Know Your Enemy.that's a damn lie and you know it. the Australian charts are full of Cobra Starship and Miley Cyrus. it's only played on triple M and a few other stations. it's not a flop, but not a major success story. The album has dropped heaps since it has realesed in chart positions because, sadly nobody buys albums anymore and 13-15 year olds control the charts.sorry if it sounds like I'm having a go at you or anything, But it has not been anywhere near as successful as your making it.
Radioactive1 Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 ive no idea tbh. you hardly ever hear of green day in england any more.Tis true. Although to be fair thats probably partly Green Day's fault. It's not like they do interviews for the UK like they seem to do in other places and they've not gig-ed or done anything here for 4 years lol.
Kaddi. Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 Some days ago, I read that 21 Guns was the most played song on German radio in calendar week 31 (July 27th - August 2nd).
Metanoia Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 ya it was (and still is) played so freaking much !! oh and in german charts it was on 13# ..... yay ^^
Shadow Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I agree, the singles Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns haven´t done so well. But the album has! I checked it out, it reached number one in 24 countries and got 7 times platinum and 6 times gold in total. So, I disagree with some of you when you say GD isn´t as popular or succesfull as they´ve been with AI. The thing is that they don´t get as much attention in the media as they did with AI. Because it almost was a scandal back then, wasn´t it? A band criticising the government and so many people actually agreeing with them? Clearly, that isn´t the case anymore. Of course, their songs are still critical, but it isn´t THE big thing anymore. So, in terms of sales (albums, concert tickets) and fanbase GD is still VERY popular...their big time is not over, in my opinion!
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Wow, the ONLY place I hear it around here is the rock station. I haven't heard GD on top 40 since WMUWSE was big!I think the VMAs gave 21 Guns some lift here in the 'states, if the local (and quite shitty, may I add?) Washington DC metro region radio market is a guide to anything. It had been fading on the modern rock station (WWDC) for the last several weeks, but now is back up as their #6 most requested song and they've responded by giving it more frequent airplay again. The big surprise is that the Teen/Twenty/Thirtysomething adult top 40 station (WRQX) has finally picked the mother up, as if they found out a week ago that the 21st Century Breakdown album was released last spring??? These are the guys who never played Know Your Enemy even once, and I guarantee you will not play EJN (tho if the dual-single release next week does in fact run as planned, maybe they'll play 21CB, it's more their genre), yet had the chutzpah to show up with a promo booth at the July 29 Verizon Center concert.....MAN was I pissed off when I saw that. But I digress. Anyway, 21 Guns is currently at #18 on their most-requested list and they are actually giving it some airplay.Cap'n, she ain't dead yet....!!

My Top 40 exposure is (thankfully) limited to the radio in our dorm bathroom, but I still haven't heard them in forever here. But, my market is much smaller (and likely worse) than DC, so whatever!
TheMinority Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Great I suppose, I only listen to radio when I'm at work and yesterday I was there for 6 hours. They played it 3 times
HoneyDo666 Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 It's a much beloved song and has done better on the Hot 100 than most Green Day songs! The European tour will help sales in Europe too!
Sanity Loan Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 This song is still in the top 60 on the iTunes top 100. I think it has been one of the most successful Green Day songs ever! Successful... not greatest
