ON topic, why would people think Billie's writing about a girl on her period? That's just gross.

Why is it gross?

Because he is . Well he's not exactly writing about an actual period, more just the fact that from a certain age onwards, women have to deal with suffering in life. That means emotional suffering and dealing with the problems that adults face. But I think by saying "she's old enough to bleed now", he's also using the way women have to suffer periods to represent everything they have to suffer in life.

That's my take on it anyway. And I would say Red Tide is about the effects of PMS so nothing gross there either :P

You're right mrs. Granger!

It's all marys fault!

Hah! I had my name long before that Granger girl even existed!

Haha, now I get it. I still find it gross that a 37 year old man would want to right about periods.

If you say 'periods' one more time, I'm going to have to tell people why your name is red in my sig .

I'd just like to share my mother's opinion on this song:

''He can't really sing live, and he's a bit whiney, other than that...there is no other than that, it's a bit of a rubbish song''

I swear we're not related sometimes.

maybe he wrote the song about Adrienne :sherlock:

hmm.. I hardly think so...

Hermione (or someone else) do you know if the "Red Tide" thread is still out there? I would like to see it :o

I swear I never thought about that!!!

I'm not sure if I ever saw this legendary thread or not, if it was when those first 6 Foxboro songs came out I hadn't joined GDC yet. I just thought that was the meaning from the first time I heard it

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it being about Adrienne, or at least partly inspired by her. Since his songs always come from personal feelings or experiences (even when they're about characters) I'd imagine any time he writes about a woman it's going to be at least slightly influenced by the woman he's been in a relationship with for years.

the "she's big enough to bleed now" it's not about her menstrual cycle, it's about if she's big enough to be a part of the world and suffer all the things that will hurt her, making her "bleed", even if it's not actually blood

(no, i didn't understand what i tried to say either xd)

Here's my take on what I kind of think the song is about:

I think this song, like what Billie wrote in the Q magazine, is how it's about celebrities and how they can self-destruct and it's about tabloid addiction and just addiction to celebrities and media in general. So I think it's told in a point of view of a father who has this daughter who's a celebrity and how she's doing all this bad stuff and even though it sounds like a sweet little daddy/daughter song, a lot of it is really sarcastic which I think is the most clever thing about it. It's like "Aw...look at my sweet little daughter, all grown up, going out to parties and then driving home completely drunk! Aw, look at her posing for pictures for the tabloids in that beautiful very skin-revealing dress!" xD This song makes me think of celebrities like Paris Hilton or Britney Spears. So yeah. And the line "She's old enough to bleed now" I think is refering to the media and how society is and how brutal it is and I don't neccessarily think that she's bleeding literally. It's more of a metaphor about how the media whats a piece of her and "murders" her inside and treats her like a commercial product in a way. So, that line to me is really ironic because it's saying how she's all grown up and all, like...you know when parents are so happy that their children are all grown up and independant? It's like that, but it's targetted towards something bad, not something good. That just shows what a clever writer Billie is. =]

I really love this song. Billie's voice sounds so amazing and I'm loving the falsetto.

It's not a beautiful song, it's a great song just not beautiful.

She's old enough to bleed now refers to pain not menstruation.

I concur with lockandload_xx :)

The lyric "she's old enough to bleed now," is pretty hilarious, if you think of it in the menstruation form, but I don't think Billie meant for it to be interpreted that way, haha.

Periods are painful, yes, but I think he means that she's old enough to go through the pain life brings, in general.

As for Billie's vocal performance...just, wow.

He can hit the high notes amazingly well. He did really good in 'Restless Heart Syndrome,' but I think he sounds brilliant here. I love when he sings high.

lol i really doubt the line about bleeding is actually referring to a period. you people are reading too much into it.

People are getting really touchy about the period thing XD I just think what with Billie's love of double meanings, it's a possibilty. There's no way a line like that needs to be taken just one way. No one is saying it is about that for sure but you can't rule it out either.
