Hermione Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 ^I just think if Mike had written it they would've mentioned that in the articles that described the song back when it was gonna be on the album.Yeah, I thought this but he definatly does seem to ...think (?) about periods often... Also, "Have you ever ate a clump of a woman's period?"...or something along the lines of that.I mean Billie Joe, really tmi...So today I realised Billie Joe has a menstruation fetish. Nice. Oh god unfortunately I think of that quote every time I listen to Red Tide . That's from Egos And Icons by the way Freeny.you guys honestly think billie joe would sing about a girl having her period?no, its obviously about someone feeling pain or something like that.Well, he did before on the song Red Tide. I think it's a double meaning - old enough to have to deal with emotional pain, but also as a further metaphor for that, old enough to literally bleed. The 'monthly curse' a woman has to put up with can represent the pain a woman goes through in life in general. The way it's phrased I'm sure it refers to both.

Menstruation + Pregnancy > Being kicked in the balls.
Supermodel*Robot Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Red tide is a common name for a phenomenon more correctly known as an algal bloom, an event in which estuarine, marine, or fresh water algae accumulate rapidly in the water column.
Michelle Lynn Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I think it has to do with both a period and the fact that she is going to have to face real pain and emotions because shes grown up. This track has to be released as a b-side, I wouldnt be surprised if it does become on considering how much theyve been playing it at recent shows.
Doug Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 She is my drama queenShe is so weird and reckless (he kind of pronounces "weared" but I'm pretty sure that's right)There goes my drama queenShe dangles from her necklaceDaddy's little bundle of joyOut of a magazineThere goes my drama queenShe's old enough to bleed nowThere goes my drama queenHer life is now unfoldingThere goes my drama queenDo you think she's holdin'?There goes my drama queenDid you find the savior? There goes my drama queenYou better call a lawyer
Hermione Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 http://serc.carleton.edu/images/microbelif...e_genera.v3.jpg I know. I don't think that's what he's referring to in the song, though. Maybe he chose to use that particular term Red Tide to tie in with the beach vibe of the album, but any further than that I think he's clearly using it to refer to PMS - which is what the song's about. Double meanings again.
Princess Consuela Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Wow this song is beautiful. And lol I had no idea about the 'red tide' thing

Tubbie Head Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 you guys honestly think billie joe would sing about a girl having her period?no, its obviously about someone feeling pain or something like that. Yes.. And that theory really fits...In my opinion! And as some of you mentioned.. Being about a father seeing her "little girl" growing up, and getting older to make her own decisions and "things" in life.. you know.. That part really makes me emotional.. For me that line is kinda sad, in a way.. As the entire song seems to be...And.. about the "red tide thing".. Is there a old topic around the forum with the discussion? hahahah I would like to read it! I also didn't know about that!! and.. This topic should be moved to the Green day chat!
