Billie Joe's fake accent is particularly strong in that song, so it's hard to tell what words are supposed to be. I sing breaking because that's what the lyrics book says. A lot of people I know sing lazy because that's what the rest of the song has. The guitars drown it out, so it's difficult to tell either way. Lonely makes sense, though. I might give the song a listen (where I don't sing a long for a change) and see what I come up with.

Wow. Still debate going on. It's definitely lonely, but as I've admited before, I was singing lazy for a long while. In fact I was sure it was lazy, til the lovely ladies and gents here said lonely and I listened to the song again and lo and behold! I heard lonely!

Damn BJ's faux accent making is Lo sounds sound like Lay sounds.
