IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 The physical single has sold 477 copies and it's due to miss the top ten. A review I read gave it 8/10 but pointed out 21cb hasn't really connected like American Idiot did. To say it had so much hype, everything just seems to have fallen a bit flat.
blitzkriegdeb Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I think the problem with that is that when American Idiot came out, Boulevard Of Broken Dreams was such a huge hit, that it just sort of skyrockted Green Day to the top of the charts all over the place. 21stCB hasn't really produced a hit as big as BOBD or anything else from AI, so people haven't really taken an interest in it.And 21 Guns is number 15 on the iTunes Top Singles chart.

Is that a typo or are the charts really that bad? Just checked UK itunes its number 47 ffs
emmaILGD! Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I really like the studio 880 session, its gritter and Billie sings Guuuuuuuuns like he does live Right, I'm getting it.

The 'campaign' for the singles has just bombed hasn't it ? JLS have sold between 5-600 physical singles and are heading for number one, so the download figures must be crap as well.

What the hell has happened to the world, gone are the glory days of TOTP and the Sunday chart show and getting excited bout number 1 :/Oh well it's number 1 on Kerrang top 40, it just came on as I turned the tv over

Bring it all back ! Even though they didn't really do those shows that much (I've still never seen the Simon The Popworld Horse one) I loved seeing any performances and first shows of the videos They seem to be having their worst chart run in ages, which is a bit odd considering how big they're supposed to be.
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It's sad really, but like was mentioned above, this album (as good as it is) didn't have that draw in that AI did. Most people were hooked on that by the single and in part by what was on it, but KYE was such a disapointing first single. It really didn't work at all. Which is sad, because the album won't get the recognition it deserves now. You have to remember though that five years ago, downloads were not included in the charts and CD singles still pretty much existed. The charts were still a big thing. You had Woolworths and every HMV selling them and now, if you don't buy them online or find a bigger store, you don't get it. Add to that the fact that there is nothing to use as promotion, and everything has just changed. Five years ago a song like 21 Guns would have been top 20, even JOS was. But now it's just all falling flat.
HoneyDo666 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I don't get where the promotion is? Surely Warner wants them to succeed? KYE was #1 for 6 weeks though! The tour will help album sales and the songs are so good...LOTAG or EJN could be great singles! Really catchy and good!
Hermione Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Well well the Green Day mailing list thing just sent me an email telling me to download the 21 Guns EP "including the new track Favourite Son". Oh really

They only did one tv appearence (no Jonathon Ross, Jules Holland, Album Chart Show) very few radio interviews and NO live performances. I know they were only here for a short time, but the UK's a pretty big market and they managed to do gigs in France and Germany. Kings Of Leon and The Killers are releasing the 15th million singles off their albums and still getting more radio play than 21 Guns.
Greenday_Aussie Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 AI was GD's savor, and its killer. No one will EVER give Green Day a chance (here) after the radio masacre that was AI, Holiday, BOBD, September. People are just sick of Green Day, even 5 years later.

People are just sick of Green Day, even 5 years later.I kind of agree with you, but not in the sense that people are sick of Green Day, but more in the sense that people just lost interest in them. 2004/05 was a whole different time period, and at the time when AI came out, it was just so completely different then what was going on the music scene that people took a huge interest in it. Unfortunatly, I think that people are just waiting for that next BOBD-sized hit, and until then, 21stCB or any of the singles won't get the recongnition they deserve. :/
