Wolfdemon Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Yes it was but what does the title mean?! OK I already knew all the others but I demand to know who or what private ale is right now because I have no clue!THATIs something I can't answer. Sorry I wish I knew that too.
Hermione Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Hmm I suppose I've always kind of thought of it as he's quite sad and lovesick in the song so 'private' and 'ale' could be vaguely referring to drinking a lonely beer to feel better. That thought's crossed my mind when listening to the song before but it's a bit of a long shot
Guest Shangri-La Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ummm.. well. it's obviously a take on "private hell"not quite sure what he means by "ale" though.. drinking by yourself... being a loser?i dont know.
Bohemian+Scandal Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ummm.. well. it's obviously a take on "private hell"not quite sure what he means by "ale" though.. drinking by yourself... being a loser?i dont know.Ha. Obviously. I never even thought about it being a take on private hell.I like the interpretation of being depressed and drinking alone though. Why is One for the Razorbacks called One for the Razorbacks? Isn't a Razorback a pig? o_O

Bohemian+Scandal Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 because he met "Juliette" when they were on tour in Arkansas and she went to the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. The schools mascot are the Razorbacks Ah. Thanks, Zoe.
Guest Shangri-La Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Ah. Thanks, Zoe.http://media.scout.com/Media/Other/27_new_hog_logo_1.JPG^i would never go to that school
Sharmellow Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Punk song title's often have no connection with the songs themselves.Yeah, I agree. But many of them are pretty damn creative.
fatherotti Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Punk song title's often have no connection with the songs themselves. And Armatage shanks was already written without a title, billie saw the name on the toilet as he was taking a piss and named the new song after it.now that is genius.........thats why music has no soul anymore......because these up and coming bands have no creative minds whatsoever, any new band can just google "100 new song names" and come up with the worst song name ever, thats what the internet has done....its killed music, no new bands even know how to actually play the guitar, they can google "tabs" and take from there, Billie Joe started playing when he was 10, no tabs, no google, no guitar hero, just a creative mind and a passion for music.......
Bohemian+Scandal Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 http://media.scout.com/Media/Other/27_new_hog_logo_1.JPG^i would never go to that school That is...Umm...Frightening. Ack.A friend of mine went off to UC Santa Cruz. They're the banana slugs. At least a boar is sorta.....Tough. But a slug just writhes around languidly leaving goo behind him. Gooey school spirit ftw?
saffy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 root beer is not beer!there are two types, and one of them, is beer
Nova-Caine Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 because he met "Juliette" when they were on tour in Arkansas and she went to the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. alaniluau Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Poor Juliette, imagine meeting a young Billie and falling in love with him, then him writing a song about not wanting you but trying to cheer u up Yeah, poor Juliette. At least he wrote a song for her, though. If Billie wrote a song for me, I'd probably cheer up.
The Disappearing Boy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ive always wondered about those song titles.
nimrod-41 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Armitage shanks is a brand of toilet maybe thats what armatage shanks is loosely based onIs it just toilets or other stuff too?'Cause my bathroom sink says 'Shanks' on it...
amrith888 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I like the description of "Private Ale" being an alternate pronounciation of "private hell".I am a poet, and when I write someone a poem, especially a love poem,it's private--just for THEM.I once wrote a love poem for my GF and it was entitled "The New Wine",and when I gave it to her,I said "I fermented and distilled this just for YOU........." When I heard "Private Ale" and read the lyrics and that it was for/about Adrienne,I guess the first thing I thought of was that Billie Joe had distilled HIS "Private Ale" just for her---a drink or beer or intoxicating thing that was hers and hers alone......But,I'm weird that way,LOL.......
greendayfan597 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Armitage shanks is a brand of toilet maybe thats what armatage shanks is loosely based onWhy? Whats so special about a toilet brand? Maybe Tre likes the heated seats.
Jack96 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Emenius Sleepus sounds like a spell from Harry Potter or Wizards of Waverly Place
milica. Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 hey, thanks man for opening this thread! there's a bunch of titles that i've always wondered what the hell they wanted to say with it, 'cause when you try to translate it-makes no sense at all =D like Armatage Shanks or Bab's uvula who? ... etc and i didn't know for the whole One For The Razorbacks story... great! ^^
Kayfabe Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Don't forget Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?. I still don't know who wrote it. :/i second that notion!WHAT IS private ale?I interpreted it as a moment spent alone drinking an alcoholic?
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Don't forget Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?. I still don't know who wrote it. :/I interpreted it as a moment spent alone drinking an alcoholic?I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not xD but JD Salinger wrote Catcher In The Rye. I always thought that title sounded like a question that might pop up on a test or something.
McBeth Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 This might just be me being stupid, but what does longview mean? I take it it's not a real word...Also, 409 In Your Coffeemaker. What's 409? I think I heard somewhere that it's some kind of laxative, and it was referring to a prank played on a teacher, which would make sense. Anyone know if this is true?
