Sharmellow Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 This is what I was about to say. His name's spelt an unusual way so it's to be expected. Not to mention it's been done so many times in the past. But still, authors should at least take the time to search how to properly spell the artist's name correctly.
The Disappearing Boy Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 im bothered that you called him bill.i like calling him bill. its a good name.
Rita Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I'm not bothered either. And that was a good read, thank you.
Princess Consuela Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 it looks like im the only one who isn't bothered that he spelt bill's name wrong!I'm not bothered either. As long as it's not William Joseph
norcalgreendayfan Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I'm not bothered either. As long as it's not William Joseph Oh jeez now people would really be up an arms if someone made that mistake on Billie's name
Sanity Loan Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Great article... good read. But I have two questions..... 1) How do we know that ¡Viva La Gloria! takes place in Detroit? and 2) How does the author think that the KYE video took place Washington DC?
gnash Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Detroit will stem from "I am a killjoy from Detroit" in Peacemaker, I guess
GDM Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 urgh... he also uses "it's" wrong... "of a generation led astray by it's predecessor." urgh. i hate that as much as misspelling Billie Joe... It is not "it is predecessor." Nice article all in all, but pardon me while I go bang my head against the wall.Detroit will stem from "I am a killjoy from Detroit" in Peacemaker, I guessI'm originally from inner city Detroit and among Detroit's many nicknames is "Murder City," which is a takeoff on Motor City. This nickname came about because for a good while Detroit was the murder capital of the States, per capita, meaning that the number of homicide deaths was great in proportion to the population of the city.Whenever I hear the song Murder City, I think of Detroit. My home, sweet, sweet home.
xBasKetxCaSex Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Is it really too hard to spell Billie's name right ? How can they love an album but not even know how to spell the name of one the men that made it ?this.I read that first line and just gave up. lol
SOMERTEN Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 To be honest I actually hate the way people always go on about the correct name spelling. It seems more important than making a valid point in some cases. I mean big fuckin deal! I've seen a lot of discussion topics get reduced to a moan about spelling and the topic is lost.
Guest Hayley Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Nice read thanks for posting.Well, I'm used to read Billie's name written like that so I don't really care about it.

It can take you completely out of the moment as you wonder how well the person knows the subject if the most simple thing is wrong?
minorityxdisturbed Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Thanks for the interview, I really hate when they write down wrong Billie's name, most people do it, they didn't learnt the alphabet...
Greenday_Aussie Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Great article... good read. But I have two questions..... 1) How do we know that ¡Viva La Gloria! takes place in Detroit? and 2) How does the author think that the KYE video took place Washington DC?It had a shot of Capital Building...strangly among LA landmarks urgh... he also uses "it's" wrong... "of a generation led astray by it's predecessor." urgh. i hate that as much as misspelling Billie Joe... It is not "it is predecessor." Nice article all in all, but pardon me while I go bang my head against the wall.I'm originally from inner city Detroit and among Detroit's many nicknames is "Murder City," which is a takeoff on Motor City. But your right, it could be a referance to Detroit. But how valid is the topic if someone writes something as nice as that article and yet gets a primary and basic fact wrong? It can take you completely out of the moment as you wonder how well the person knows the subject if the most simple thing is wrong?Seriously, its very easy to make the mistake, Billy is spelt with a Y. Mr. Armstrong is the only "Billie" with an IE instead of a Y I've ever seen.
Hermione Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 ^Exactly. Everyone spells Billy with a Y. Even Green Day joked about Billie being spelled "wrong" on his birth certificate in the booklet of their first album! If someone's only into the music and doesn't care about knowing facts about the bandmembers etc, they're not going to read his oddly-spelled name as often as us so the mistake is bound to happen. I doubt Billie cares.

I just feel that people get too upset about this.
GDM Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Someone making a spelling mistake doesn't really take from an article for me at all. I just feel that people get too upset about this.True, but that "it's" actually got me worked up more. Sorry, I'm a librarian, you know how we are... as I said, it's a nice article and the guy apparently really feels the album, so, it's all good... And yes, Murder City might have been written about the Oakland riots, but the song still reminds me of Detroit... but I think it's American Eulogy that directly references the riots in Oakland? Riots, riots, everywhere!Anyway, the spelling isn't here nor there actually... except for that darn "it's"...
