Whatsername Video

I think that this video was badly made, and could've been made differently. I mean seriously! Rolling on the ground drunk?!?! I'm going to state my interpretation of the song, and what the video could've been in my opinion.

These are the lyrics-

*Note- I know we all have them memorised...humor me for a second...*

Whatsername-

Thought I ran into you down on the street

Then it turned out to only be a dream

I made a point to burn all of the photographs

She went away and then I took a different path

I remember the face but I can't recall the name

Now I wonder how Whatsername has been

Seems that she disappeared without a trace

Did she ever marry old what's his face?

I made a point to burn all of the photographs

She went away and then I took a different path

I remember the face but I can't recall the name

Now I wonder how Whatsername has been

Remember, whatever

It seems like forever ago

Remember, whatever

It seems like forever ago

The regrets are useless

In my mind

She's in my head

I must confess

The regrets are useless

In my mind

She's in my head

From so long ago

And in the darkest night

If my memory serves me right

I'll never turn back time

Forgetting you, but not the time

Okay, so those are the lyrics.

The video has NOTHING to do with these lyrics. NOTHING! The video is just Whatsername rolling around, posing for the camera, and acting...*I hate to use this word*...slutty. Yea, this wasn't how I imagined her either. I imagined a girl looking like a more female version of the Jesus of Suburbia. Well, this wasn't the absolute best visual description of her, but I guess it can work.

When I first heard the song, many years ago, this is what I envisioned:

J.O.S., in his room, staring at a photo tacked to his wall. It's a photo of him and Whatsername, except her face is scratched out. He's racking his brain, trying to remember the the face and the name. Slowly, he replays the past months in his mind. We see the memories they shared- A friendship...a love...a fight...a falling out. J.O.S. burns all off the photographs that share her face. Months later, he finds one. He stares at it, and is about to burn it with his lighter. As the corner is burning, he realizes that what doesn't kill him, will only make him stronger. He puts out the flame with the beer nearby, and tacks the photo to his wall. He doesn't want to remember her face, even though it's ingrained in his mind. He scratches it out with a paper clip, and walks out of the room.

Now, it's the present. He's walking out of the 7-11, and sees a girl walking across the street. He recognizes her, knows that he knows her/knew her, but can't pin a name to the face. He decides to give her a new name- Whatsername.

Weeks later, he's still thinking about the girl he saw. He's walking past the spot on his wall where the photo is tacked, and the realization that it was her, hits him. Part of him misses her, but he knows he will never again see her. At the very end, he takes the picture down, and throws it in the trash, with the camera close-up on her scratched out face.

What do you guys think of it?

i like your idea for a whatsername video :D

I wasn't much of a fan of the Whatsername video. In fact, I think I'm just going to take this video, the 12 minute version of JOS, and GD preforming the song live, and create my own version of the video that (hopefully) ends up better than this video.

What do you guys think of it?

Why didn't you direct this?

Why didn't you direct this?

Uhh....I'll list the reasons-

All the money I had just went to buying new supplies for my hobby of jewelry design.

I don't have a video camera...or a digital camera...I use my cell-phone or I borrow a friends.

I have no clue where I would film it, or who of my friends I'd use to star in it.

I'm not in the mood for a lawsuit between myself and Warner-Reprise/Green Day.

I'm elated that you guys like my idea. It really brightened up my day. *Gives Karma To All!*

i downloaded it awhile back on GDF. it's so uber fucking boring. no wonder they didn't release it. what's so interesting about a girl practically drooling in front of a camera for 4 minutes?

I'm working on it right now. I've sort of lost track of time on how long I've been working on it. It's been either a little over 2 or 3 hours right now. I need a little break, though. It's frustrating because I found a video of GD playing Whatsername live, so I ripped it and am now trying to include GD in this video at various times. But trying to match up the video (particularly BJ singing) and the audio from the studio/album version of the song isn't as easy as it seems. In fact, it's quite a bitch to do it, to be honest. But nonetheless, I'm still trying. And I will complete this. I can't guarantee that it will be done tonight, although that's what I'm aiming for. But when it is done, I'll try uploading it on YouTube. And if people don't hate it to the point where they will chase me with pitchforks and Molotov cocktails, then I can try putting it up on MegaUpload or something.

Thank you for the encouragement. :) Now, back to work for me. I'll be back on this thread when I'm done with the video.

If you want to incorporate any of my idea into your video, feel free to.

The video is almost finished, guys. But not quite yet. I just have to add a few touches, and then I'm done. But I'm quitting tonight. I think I've done almost 6 hours of work with only a ten minute or so break. I gotta get some sleep (because I can't stay awake 24/7 like some of the mods/admins here seem to... :D), but I promise you guys I'll post it tomorrow. Night!

That would have worked perfectly. It's the epitome of the song and it would make a great video.

I downloaded the video. Didn't like it and didn't want to risk it ruining one of my favorite Green Day songs, so I turned it off.

That was teh stupidest peice of shit ever! One, after a while a chick(even for the bisexual) rolling on the floor gets extremly boarding. Second, it was just plain dumb. The girl was also ugly

yeah, there's no way this was the final product. i'm guessing they started filming her part of the video, and was left with only this when the gave up on it.

i mean... the only thing that kept me even remotely interested, was the song itself

It sounds pretty bad, haha.

I'd watch it but I'm supposed to be doing homework...

Totally pointless.
