Teenage Kicks! Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 All the words that are big words that just mean the same as simple words. OH and those sayings he uses are pretty cool too.Like "Wish in one hand and shit in the other"
Hermione Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Oh yeah salud! I'd forgotten about that. Alanna you just reminded me I didn't know what he was on about when he said salud for YEARS, had no internet to look it up. I finally randomly heard what it meant on some TV programme one day, and was very pleased
Green Jay Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I thought I was doing ok with my vocabulary until the new album. Seriously, did he go through a dictionary finding strange words? After looking up a few I was ok, and the album eventually made sense to this below-average-grade-student.Didn't he drop out of school? I bet his wife writes all his lyrics.
LilyMarie Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 'Wish in one hand and shit in the other' was my mom's favorite saying when I was a kid. Writers of most all kinds are kinda...wordophiles. (hey look, I made up a new word!) They collect them, wallow in them, all that. Particularly authors and poets, but surely lyricists, too. It's tough to write good songs when you have a 5th grade vocabulary. Just because he dropped out doesn't mean he's stupid. Some of the most brilliant people I know are self-taught.
Seedless_Reject Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Billie spells it "malakite" in the lyric book, heh heh.yay, for Hooked on Phonicsthere are a few words that I learned form them, but most of them were mentioned. Ila Reto pretty much covered it, but I knew a few on the listI learned about the Poprocks and Coke thing and after hearing about it I tried it out.'Wish in one hand and shit in the other' was my mom's favorite saying when I was a kid. Boston Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Didn't he drop out of school? I bet his wife writes all his lyrics.Billie and Adrienne + Two!

Guest TwoDollarMellie Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 RitalinMary JaneEulogythere's more but I can't seem to remember them at the moment.

They just have a political or destructive theme to them, so if you aren't familiar with those, then it might be sort of hard. I can't really think of any 21stCB words I learned...Well, I still don't know what a Gaza is... or Nixon (time period of 72?)
Solitary One Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Well as much as Billie's a great writer, his use of intricate and complex wording is nothing compared to Greg Graffin and Mr. Brett, just sayin'check this out for doubts BR lexicon Exactly what I was thinking.
Spark of Insanity Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Meh, I actually can't remember. But the few I do remember are:InibriatedReprucutionPlatypusSubservientWell, I still don't know what a Gaza is... or Nixon (time period of 72?)Gaza is a part of Israel that is commonly refferenced to as the 'Gaza Strip' and it involves the tension between Palinstinians and Israelites whom are fighting over land and its basically a war of religion. The Israelites became a nation if 1948 and they referenced the land as 'rightfully theirs' and they basically kicked the Palistinians out and the Palistinians want their land back. But they won't make a compromise on it. Gaza is usually the worst place to be in Israel where the fights usually happen. And Nixon involves Watergate (a huge scandal where there was a break in inside a hotel and he stole info.)
Juan Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Exactly what I was thinking.yeah, what the fuck is wrong with you people?Meh, I actually can't remember. But the few I do remember are:Inebriated* ----Reprucution----Repercussion?PlatypusSubservientGaza is a part of Israel that is commonly referenced to as the 'Gaza Strip' and it involves the tension between Palestinians and Israelites whom are fighting over land and its basically a war of religion. He fought Vietnam and others

Phew!!Richard Nixon was a US president

And I don't feel like raddling my brain for the correct way at the moment since I had like two hours of sleep yesterday and its almost 2am right now.Oh, I forgot to say that the Isralites regard Israel as 'holy land' that God gave them, which it used to be called Canaan back in the old days.
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 When I first read this I was like but then i remembered you're Canadian! Phew!!Richard Nixon was a US president haha yeah, thanks for that though! I can tell you about Trudeau or Lester Pearson if you like...

But true.

Supermodel*Robot Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 I think it all depends on the person. Depending on where you live & the things you're involved in, you might now a bunch of words that someone else doesn't. It doesn't necessarily make you smarter.

Spark of Insanity Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 that's because it's only the first page. There are 559 words. I know that, I am looking through them to see which ones I know right now. Just to see how good/bad my vocabulary is.Which I do know my vocabulary is better than people I know, and is adequate enough. But yes, much harder than anyone else by far.I think it all depends on the person. Depending on where you live & the things you're involved in, you might now a bunch of words that someone else doesn't. It doesn't necessarily make you smarter.Or if you like knowing the meaning of words and love using big complex words like I do.And took a medical class to know word parts and meanings and now knows a lot more medical stuff compared to a year earlier and thier meanings.People say that I should get into semantics courses in college because of that.
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 24, 2009 Author Posted June 24, 2009 well having a big array of words, knowing what they mean and knowing how to use them properly (or if they're too complex, slipping the in for amusement-most likely yourself-) does make you smarterYeah, I know. But I mean you could have the same sized vocabulary as me & know a bunch of words I don't. And vice-versa. I'm not arguing that cool words aren't important. I get rather pissed off at how often people tell me to stop using "big words." Why not read a dictionary rather than stomp on my intelligence?
