Sarahnade. Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Well, I don't want to repeat what everybody else said, but I feel like I need to put my 2 cents in.I do not believe that Billie Joe is taking over Green Day. I understand why people might think so, though. He does talk a lot in interviews, but he is kind of the leader and dominant one because he is the frontman and he does write the songs and a lot of the questions are about the songs, so since he is the lyricist, he can explain the songs and his writing process better than Mike and Tre. (I'm not saying that Mike and Tre don't have the abilitly to explain the songs Billie wrote, but Billie can explain then better since he wrote them.)The reason why Billie seems to dominate the interviews is because the last 2 albums have been much more in-depeth, so the questions are becoming more serious and more intricate, therefore Billie Joe has to try to explain the songs as well as possible so the fans can understand them. That's why Mike and Tre haven't had a whole lot of input lately. But just because Billie seems to talk a lot doesn't mean he's "taking over", whatever that even means. How can a member of a band "take over"? Mike and Tre are 2/3rds of Green Day; without the two of them, it wouldn't be Green Day and I'm sure Billie knows that. I just don't really see how a member of a band - a band that is only made of 3 people and those 3 people have very distinct personalitlies - can take over a band. However, I believe that they should have the right to have pride in their work because their music is actually good. There are a lot bands out there that are really horrible, and they are arragont and egotistical when they have no right to be. Green Day, on the contrary, have been a band for almost 21 years, made 8 brilliatn albums, and have somehow managed to stay quite humble an close as friends, which is remarkable to me.So, in the end, I just think the whole idea of this is totally ridiculous, and very irrelevant because the same thing is being said over and over again, as someone said before.
xVanessa86x Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I sometimes think that but then again he was the original guitarist, Mike is the bassist and Tre is the drummer, if you get what I'm saying like people tend to make the lead guitarist the most famous basically because of looks. For example, Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz who is the bassist become more popular than Patrick Stump or whatever the fuck his name is because of looks. So I'm sure if Mike and Tre had a problem with anything going on they would flat out tell Billie and things would change but I think they enjoy it this way. They are all equal with each other, enough said.
Bastard of 1967 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Mike and Tre are 2/3rds of Green Day; without the two of them, it wouldn't be Green Day and I'm sure Billie knows that.Well put. Did you see the "Making of 21Guns" vid? There's one clip where Tre and Mike are on camera, and Tre's doing the talking....looks right at the camera while pointing at himself and Mike and says "best rhythm section in the WORLD, thank you very much!" They all know it, and he ain't kidding!
Sarahnade. Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 ^Thanks. And I agree, and Billie knows how great they are, so...yeah. I don't think this is an issue at all.
xBasKetxCaSex Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 this makes me laugh a little on the inside. its called being a frontman.
darenmay Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Billie Joe: I am Green Day.so as mike and tre.but billie is the frontman. how can you be a frontman if you don't talk the most for your band.and he's the lead singer as well. and he writes the lyrics, too.
eastbayreject Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 don't i recall Billie saying "i am green day". How can he be taking over hes the damn frontman! *rolls eyes*My 2 cents, is that Greenday has been a band for over 20 years. And they havent been lame like some bands who break up and then come back and still say they have been a band for so many years. I don't see Billie Joe taking "Too much credit" or trying to control the band. Im sure there are interviewers who write questions that would instigate conflict between the guys in greenday however this band is just too tight a band for that to work. Bottom line is that when you start out as such close friends the way Mike and Billie Joe did that bond can't be broken by anything. Before American Idiot Mike and tre both wrote songs toosome examples: J.A.R. (Jason andrew Relva) written by Mike Dirnt I could be wrong But I also thought Mike wrote "Coming clean" dont quote me on that, and then tre wrote "All by myself" and "Dominated love slave" obviously 2 goofy songs suitable for Tre.
AlanJLegend Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 some examples: J.A.R. Mike wrote Emenius sleep though. And Billie isn't 'taking over'. Mike has lead vocals in the second half of American Eulogy. He and Tre both had singing parts in Homecoming.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Billie Joe: I am Green Day.Why does everyone keep bringing up Billie Joe saying "I am Green Day." He doesn't mean it as in, he's what makes the band. He means it as in the way he described it. That the band is his entire life. It's who he is.I'm not just talking about you, though. I've seen other people use that quote and make the exact same point, but it seems like everyone's taking it as Billie saying "Oh, I'm what makes the band." and then saying that that's how the other two feel as well.Maybe I'm just taking what people are saying the wrong way, and they mean it as in the way Billie meant it too, it just... it doesn't look like it.
Hermione Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm pretty sure Billie wrote Coming clean. Mike wrote Emenius sleep though. And Billie isn't 'taking over'. Mike has lead vocals in the second half of American Eulogy. He and Tre both had singing parts in Homecoming.Yeah. And Mike co-wrote Hearts Collide too, so the other members continue to contribute to writing songs. Billie even said recently that he'd love for Mike to write more because he writes such great stuff
Wolfdemon Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I don't think Billie's taking over at all. Hasn't anyone else noticed the amount of interviews Tre's had recently? I think the band's what is always has been: Billie, Mike, and Tre.
Nova-Caine Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Yeah. And Mike co-wrote Hearts Collide too, so the other members continue to contribute to writing songs. Billie even said recently that he'd love for Mike to write more because he writes such great stuff I'm sure Mike wrote Ha Ha You're Dead as well, could be wrong, I'm old and the grey matter is starting to fuzz up a little.Oh and Billie taking over? he's a short arse it wouldn't take much for a mutiny by the other two
Wolfdemon Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I'm sure Mike wrote Ha Ha You're Dead as well, could be wrong, I'm old and the grey matter is starting to fuzz up a little.Oh and Billie taking over? he's a short arse it wouldn't take much for a mutiny by the other two And the muscle difference between him and the other two
SOMERTEN Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Billie's the fromtman, no question. I do notice though how he even craves the limelight when Mike is singing American Eulogy, running around etc, attracting attention to himself, like he can't be in the background for even a couple of minutes.

There's so many old videos where Billie can't stop himself trying to get the audience's attention while Tre's doing Dominated Love Slave. I've even seen one where he walks on in the middle of it with his trousers round his ankles , he just coudn't resist! I think being a bit of an attention seeker and having that jokingly brash persona onstage is all part of what makes him such a fabulous frontman.
thenextsexpistol_mak Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 its called being a frontman.and one of the best ever
thenextsexpistol_mak Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I agree, without a doubt. but mike and tre are awezome too
Laura! Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 but mike and tre are awezome too Like Tre said, the best rhythm section in the world! There wouldn't be Green Day without them.
