Well the front man of the band is the one that usually gets most of the attention. Like Paul McCartney did for the Bealtes, Gerard Way does for My Chemical Romance, Hayley Williams does for Paramore, and the list continues. Plus they're a one for all and one for all kinda band. There's no way in HELL that Billie Joe would be any other way.

I'm not gonna say what everyone else said...

just, I think it's fair enough that billie gets more attention, cuz:

1. HE is the frontman, the entertainer, etc.

2. HE writes the songs!! so I think he has a right to talk about them hasn't he?

and anyway mike and tre DO get attention

Tre and Mike even stated that Billie's more of the leader, the steerer of the boat, and Mike and Tre are there to help, but they let Billie guide them. (that's no where near close to the actual quote, but the concept is the same)

I know that very very quote: its from the Rollingstone Article from end of May

"We are a democracy with an elected leader,"Dirnt of says of Green Day. He and Cool, whose real name is Frank Edwin Wright III, "are there to support Billie. Because he drives himself insane. We tell him 'We're here for you ,man We do not take lightly what you're doing.'"

Naw, it's okay. I think Billie does that to everyone. Haha.

trust me ..I know of lesbians who have the hots for him ...some- how most rules seem to go out the window on this one...Billie throws them all out the window...so yes its totally ok and normal...:cool:

WTF? How does Billie understand what they are saying?!

 Wut?

It's either on the computer screen in front of them or in their headphones

And then I meant the translation to English..

I love his shirt! *starts browsing internet*

Nah.

He is the frontman, he consider himself as a part of GD so it's obvious that GD is not his band, it's their band.

He is just the person who represents the band.

thread needs to be locked.

we all know green day are an equal front.

I agree this topic is pretty ridic. Hermione put it perfectly.

I've seen that phrase in SO many interviews.

Billie Joe is the Frontman. Enough said.

AMEN!

I think everything is perfect and I don't want any change

I think they seem to share more views equally than ever before... especially now. I noticed Billie isn't as quickly to answer questions ...he lets Mike and Tre in. I especially liked how he pulled Jason in the group when one of talk show host ignored Jason all together. To me they seem like a solid cohesive unit.... I love the camerdierie between them. I think that's the thing that make's Green Day work as a whole. The camerderie they have with one another.

Anybody know which interview that was? Or can give me a link?

Well might as well put my two cents in before the topic gets closed but it goes along with Billie is the frontman and naturally is going to draw a bit more of the attention, fair or not thats just how it is but all the guys are really ok with it so thats really a moot point since each of them bring their own unique thing to the band and its a combination of that which makes the band come together and click.

In regards to other frontmen Billie is better than most out there, I can guarantee there have been frontmen in bands that probably were total douches who took all the credit and were nothingmore than glory hogs.

Every frontman gets more attention than the rest of the band...Billie gives Mike and Tre a lot of credit and they always seem like bestest best friends!

I don't see it as him taking over.

Billie is the front man and I've noticed that all of the guys get there chance to speak, also Tre' is now doing a lot of interviews lately.

Another point is that they have been doing this for how many years now, if there was really an issue something would've happened by now.

They are also Best Friends and have been even before the band they know what each others ticks and issues are and they talk it out.

It's so childish whenever there's an interview with just Billie and people complain about it. Finding out more about what makes such a brilliant songwriter tick doesn't take away from Mike or Tre's contribution at all. He wrote the songs, he knows the answers to the questions about them!

I can't think of another band whose frontman appears to have such a total lack of arrogance and ego, and where all the bandmembers are so full of genuine admiration for each other as musicians. The guys are lifelong friends with a huge amount of respect for each other. There clearly isn't a problem.

I agree 100%

This is a quote taken from a 2001 interview Billie had with Larry Livermore:

LL: A lot of people who aren't musicians don't understand how vital the rhythm section is. In fact they're not always that clear on what exactly it is that bass players do, whereas musicians know that without a really great bassist and drummer, even the best guitarist or singer in the world is still going to sound like crap... But I was wondering: wasn't it a bit hard on Mike when so much of the attention went your way because of your being the lead singer?

BJ: In the long run, I don't care what people think about that. That's been an issue ever since pop music began.

LL: It's just that some bands seem to be able to deal with it and others don't...

BJ: I think even if it did bother Mike, he wouldn't tell me. But ultimately it takes three members to make this band, and we all know that. Fortunately, we're one of those bands that people look at as a band, not a guy and his two sidekicks. From early on we were adamant about how every member of this band has an opinion, his input, and is equal. Even the way we get paid.

Billie doesn't ask for all the attention he gets from the media. Like Billie said, that's been the issue ever since pop music began. People always focus their attention on the singer, that's the way it is. Like Hermione said, I can't think of any band whose frontman has total lack of arrogance and ego. All the band members get to talk whenever they want in interviews. It's not like Billie puts shock collars on Mike and Tre, like whenever they try to answer a question: ZAP! "NO! I'M TALKING! I'M ANSWERING THE QUESTION! SHH!" No, he doesn't do that. Also, interviews can be very awkward and boring, espeically if they ask the same questions over and over again, and most of the questions are about the songwriting. If Billie wrote the song, he knows what the song is about, because he wrote it. I can't think of a band where people focus attention on other band members more, maybe besides Pete Wentz in fallout boy. It's the same with Hayley Williams in paramore, Paul McCartney in The Beatles, Gerard Way in My Chemical Romance, Joey Ramone in The Ramones.

That interview was from 2001 though, when Green Day was going through a turbulent time and weren't in the limelight like they are now. Any of this alleged "taking over" by Billie Joe has only, I'm assuming, been happening since 2004-present because American Idiot made them so famous.

Yeah, I know that. But the main reason why I quoted that was the fact that he said that singers being the center of attention has always been the problem with pop music, and it's true. American Idiot may have made them famous, but they've been a band for a long time and have already been one of the biggest rock bands. Dookie sold even more than American Idiot. I'm sure that they've been through rough times together even before 2001, like in 1995. But the thing is, Billie made a very good point in that part of the interview. It doesn't matter what year the interview was in, and even though that interview was 2001, Larry and Billie were talking about past things that have happened to them as a band.

I don't know...I just don't think Billie is "taking over Green Day". It's just ridiculous. Yeah, he can act like he's the most important for being the leader, but he's used to being the leader, and the thing is, he's not perfect. He has his flaws just like every other human being in the world. But I think if there was a problem about Billie supposibly getting more attention than Mike and Tre, then they'd resolve it. And also, if the thing Billie, Mike, and Tre cares about the most is their music, then why does Billie talking the most in interviews such a big problem? The reason why he gets more attention is because the media sees him as the frontman, and like Billie said, that's always been the problem with pop culture.
