Y'know i didn't really understand it either, but i justified it in my own mind by making up a random plot:

the police were outside because Christian managed to kill one of his dealers and he wouldn't come out so they began to shoot.

and then they're both high and they dont really realize that they're in danger so they dont hit the floor when the bullets fly.

But then Gloria gets a call from her neighbor across the street saying that the cops aren't going to go away and they accept the fact that they're gonna die.

so they just makout a bunch.

On a more serious note, i actually see the sirens outside as the "cops of a new religion" mentioned in EJN.

and the bullets are all the lies and pain that's been thrown at them. And all they can do is wait it out and enjoy eachother's love while they still can.

I need to look at it again to be sure I saw this correctly -- but in the first, say, third of the video, just before the bullets start flying, Christian picks up the TV remote. When he aims it at the TV, it *becomes* the gun and instead of firing IR beams at the TV, it's firing bullets everyplace. So the shots aren't coming from outside the room, they're coming from *inside* it, from Christian, and he's blowing away everything regardless of who or what it is, barely missing the one he supposedly loves (Gloria).

I still can't make sense of the phone in the fishbowl. That's just weird.

Dude, the fish isn't real. Didn't you see the bullet hole disappear after it shot through near Gloria's shoulder? It was gone after a few seconds. The fish tank didn't break and the fish wasn't real. It was all computerized.

wow, great video - the light effects were cool, and they picked the perfect actors to play Christian and Gloria. I thought I mostly understood it, but after reading this thread I can't believe it could have so many subtle meanings. I still don't get what the significance was of all the water coming out of the goldfish tank, but it must mean something...

Terribly sorry if anyone else has picked up on this (I really cbf to read through so many posts), but with regard to poeple wondering why they've got Gloria and Christian making otu after the gun shots..

I read/heard somewhere in an interbveiw that Billie was talking about influences for the album.. and he mentioned something along the lines of there being a riot or fire or something, and a coiuple kissing in the midst of it all..

Hence the video?

Finally watched the video. I like it, it's better than what Bayer did with the American Idiot era videos. It seems really random though. They're in this bedroom, there's bulletholes, the couch is getting shot from the inside out by some random person trapped in it, awkward slow walking towards each other to kiss randomly, random goldfish, and then Green Day playing in a bedroom... I do enjoy having faces to Christian and Gloria though. Whoever casted them did an EXCELLENT job. Christian's kinda cute, I won't lie.

Thanks! Yeah, take a close look at where Christian aims the remote control at the TV...he hits the button and the tube's glass is shattered by a bullet. Then he turns the remote towards Gloria and fires a second shot. At that point the whole wall, the couch, etc. starts getting blown away -- but when the camera cuts back to Christian, he's cowering from gunfire that's now coming from everywhere. It's almost as if he set a chain of destruction in motion that he can't control now, and is consuming him. Wow....

I just thought of some meaning for fishy and its bowl.

Its bowl gets shot, and the water gulps out in some sort of waterfall, but fishy ends up in a jar and survives.

Maybe that's something like you're life is sliding away under your feet, it's not your fault but you have absolutely no control over it, if something like that happens don't give up hope because maybe you'll end up alright anyway.

I haven't figured out the telephone thing either, though. The only thing that came to mind when it dropped into the aquarium was "poor fishy, it'll get elektrocuted".
