Hermione Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Never will Billie ever come close to sounding like Lennon.Good, I prefer Billie's voice . Although he's not exactly trying to sound like him anyway.
emmaILGD! Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I remember when I first heard Green Day's version of Working Class Hero, and I thought the end bit ('if you want to be a hero well just follow me') was actually Billie (even though it's John). But he doesn't sound like him in the rest of the song/any other songs imo.
Lauren Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 John wrote a lot of love songs. When he did it, they were great ones too. Julia, Grow Old with Me, Woman, Love....there are a lot more. I think though that they are not sappy really, they have a different vibe than Paul's.Julia is about his mother.I remember when I first heard Green Day's version of Working Class Hero, and I thought the end bit ('if you want to be a hero well just follow me') was actually Billie (even though it's John). But he doesn't sound like him in the rest of the song/any other songs imo.Yeah, they have a very similar voice when they sing low.
Peel Slowly And See Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Possibly why I just can't really delve deep into this album. You dislike John Lennon? Also, Last Night On Earth is influenced by Elton John more than anything else. Get your influences right, people.
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I can hear where there is Lennon/Beatles influence maybe...but as far as Billie's voice sounding like Lennon's? I don't really think so.I agree with this.Though I was driving my dad to get gas, 'cause his car ran out... and Restless Heart Syndrome came on, and my dad said that Billie sounded a bit like George Harrison. Not so much the voice, but the way he was singing.I mean, I do think it's pretty fair to say you CAN hear the Beatles' influence on the record.
xVanessa86x Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I remember when I heard that like 30 second clip at their first live show of Last Night on Earth and I really thought Billie sounded just like John Lennon or well reminded me of him. I mean when Billie says, "I'm sending all my love to you" I automatically thought of All My Loving by the Beatles. I love how Billie is influenced by The Beatles and the rest of the band. Green Day and The Beatles <3 =) They are absolutely tied.
Brian Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Last Night on Earth has got to be a Lennon inspired song.
dirty-fingers Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 It's a complete rip off! The piano bits anyway, look at the vid I posted a couple up ^^
Hermione Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 ^I'd say Billie Joe is far more likely to be influenced by John Lennon than Elton John. Even if the song has turned out to technically sound more like Elton John, I'd imagine he'd be more influenced and spurred on to really bare his soul and go for a straight up romantic song like that by someone he hugely admires like Lennon. Not to say he wouldn't be a fan of Elton, I just can't see him being that much of an influence. More likely a musical coincidence.Personally the song makes me think of Lennon anyway, although not in a 'rip-off' sense.
Drew Maney Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I agree 21st century reflects some of Paul and Johns greatest works!
Tiffx Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 With Last Night On Earth, maybe. But Billie's voice is still very unique IMO.
RhayaOnTheHill Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I can't really say I hear it, but Billie Joe is a big fan of John and The Beatles so I'm sure there's some inspiration in there somewhere. I think there's a little John in every music composition past 1964
