Do you even realize how pretentious you sound?

People need variety in their lives. If you listened to Green Day 24/7, you'd probably get sick of them, too. Who the fuck are you to judge whether or not someone is a "real" fan?

<3

I agree, just because you don't listen to them 24/7 doesn't make you a bad fan.

I Think this topic as going to cause internet-rage on both sides of the argument. And also a lot of one worded (yes\no) comments. :ermm:

Yes, definitely. I haven't properly listened to Green Day for a month, and I personally think that's a good thing. They're always gonna be my favorite band, though.

You guys, there's no need to get upset here. Everybody has the right to state their opinion. I know some people who only listen to their favorite band and simply don't get sick of their music.

To all the people who answered no.... so you could only ever listen to Green Day continuously, all the music related things you ever do is Green Day, only watch Green Day related videos etc and be completely fine with that? Nothing else, ever?

Because that's what saying 'there exists no too much Green Day' is.

No. how does it mean that? I listen to other music, because I have other favorite bands and artists, but I can never get enough of Green Day, I don't go a day with out listening to Green Day, and I never get annoyed of hearing about them.

^ I don't know... I guess that depends from person to person... Personally I was never ever tired of them. I can be like months without listening to their music (sometimes not really my choice  ) but I'll always be on here, seeing what they're currently working on, and watching new videos from the concerts and seeing their pictures (ga), it's, like I said before a routine for me (and usually the best part of my days). I love these guys too much and they are such a huge part of my life that I just can't think of having too much of them going on my life

I kind of wish I could ever get to a time in my life that I would say.. I've seen Green Day Too many times!

I know exactly what you mean and totally agree! I sometimes go months without listening to them --- Although not really on purpose --- But they're always there in the background if not the foreground, y'know? And that's just the way I like it. Green Day makes me happy, and if other people don't get that, then it's their deal, not mine. :)

Too much of anything is too much. No matter how good it is.

You're right, but the question is how much is too much? Like, for example, if I personally think listening to Green Day 24/7 is just the right amount, ((Not that I really do this, it's just an example,)) But someone else thinks listening to one track from Dookie once a month is just the right amount, then it really just becomes a matter of opinion.

But I guess that's what this entire thread's about, though, haha.

LOL, as if I give a shit if you think I sound 'pretenious'. Besides, why does it matter to you --- You just got done confessing you don't even like them or most of their music anymore, dude.

And who said I was judging who 'real' fans were ...? Way to be totally paranoid and self centered ...

No way, man. They've been too big a part of my life for too long now. Green Day's never been a phase for me. =)

Sometimes it's tough to befriend other Green Day fans because of this, though, because I apparently come across as 'too obsessed' to a lot of you guys ...? IDK, I've been told off on GDC/GDA numerous times because I like them 'a little too much'. =/

But it's all good --- I'm a Green Day fan because of Green Day, not because of other Green Day fans, haha. Especially not ones who trash fellow fans! Fuck them.

I don't see how she was being self-centered in any way.

But I'm done, I don't want to keep building to this argument.

Well, maybe it doesn't exist for some people and they can do that. But if you say there isn't such a thing as too much Green Day, that means that you could do what I described in my post (only listening purely Green Day all the time etc). There's a difference between listening a lot of Green Day, not ever getting sick of Green Day, talking about Green Day a lot, going to countless of their gigs; that's not too much because it's what you do and still enjoy, but apparently if you were to do MORE than that, it'd be too much. Therefore, for that person too much Green Day exists.

Opinions and personal preference! No one will get mad if your answer is yes...lol

I seriously can't understand how a real Green Day fan could ever get tired of Green Day. o_o; It's beyond my comprehension.

Sorry but I think I agree with almost everything you say

<3

Yeah, I just don't see how people can get sick of them, but that's just because I love them so much...for me there is just certain music I can't get annoyed with. Doesn't make me anymore or less of a fan than anyone else.

...oy vey. To quote Spike, I knew there was a reason I hated you.

Self-centered? Paranoid? Now you're just pulling words out of your ass.

Look, chica. I'm going to say this again, and I'm going to keep saying it until you can fucking comprehend it: you don't have to listen to Green Day 24/7 or love every little tiny thing they do to be a real fan. You can absolutely loathe a song *coughknowyourenemycough* and still be a fan. You can hate an entire album and still be a fan. There is no strict set of rules or guidelines to being a Green Day fan.

And that goes for the rest of you as well, not just Mallory here.

...you're just trying to get your post count up, aren't you?

I think everyone needs to just respect the fact that everyone likes things differently. If people think there can be to much then that is your opinion, if you think there isn't too much than that was your opinion! Stop trying to shove it down each others throats and get them to change their opinions. People are allowed to fucking have them!!

I listened to them so much back in 2005 and the beginning of 2006 that I wore them out. And I went for a good 3 years of barely ever listening to them, I found my other favorite bands because of that. Now, I listen to them the same amount as I listen to other artists too.

So, my answer would be yes.

I could really care less actually. I just think that everyone is arguing for arguments sake, and no one is right.

And really is that all you guys can say when someone says something back too you?

I can't sit and listen to Green Day all the time. I've tried. I can't. Granted, I'm not that great of a fan anyway, but there's so much other music I want to listen to. Maybe I'll stick them in a playlist with my other favorite bands and leave that on shuffle, but continuous Green Day is too much. I love them and they're one of my two favorite bands. I can get pretty obsessed, but not that obsessed. After my concert last year, I listened to them all the time. I'm listening to them now because Lolla is coming up. But I still throw in other artists.

that why i even LOVE to cut it down for a while..because then when i "get back" im more in love again and i appreciate their music more....you know what i mean ?

It's like...you kinda only realize how much someone or something means to you when you miss it for a while.

i know exactly what you mean! im the same way

what do you mean by liking them "too much" isnt that the reason we're all here

Mmm, some GD fans are fucking crazy, though.

true that

haha my same exact situation!

Yes, we know it is just other people opinions. But we do have the right to judge the opinions that honestly, are just fucking ridiculous. We don't want to completely change other peoples opinions, no. I am not saying the opinion is wrong, I'm saying I don't necessarily agree with whatever they are saying.

However I think i went for about 6 months were I didn't listen to Green Day, I went through a period when I was really getting into MM.

Yea but it's about personal preference! That's what I just don't get, if people feel to them that there isn't too much then so be it, you're not them so you couldn't really know, they're not saying there is not such thing as to much Green Day for everyone, just them self. The same to the other side, it's what you prefer, and there's nothing wrong with it.

Well you cannot expect people not to judge you on your opinions, It's the way it is.

Can never have too much Green Day. I listen to them at least once a day, usually way more

I know that. I'm just going to agree to disagree, on my part, because like I said - no one is right or wrong.

I agree with Pom,

As a young teen, Green Day was my favorite band, but as I became older I sort of moved on in a way, because I definitely listened to them way too much and kind of wore them out. It's not that I don't like them anymore, I just don't listen to them as much as I used to. Even though they're not my favorite anymore, they'll always have a special place in my heart, because they did mean a lot to me.

Posted

yes, you absolutely can get sick of listening to the same thing day in, day out for a LONG period of time

and no, not listening to them everyday in no way makes you a bad or "lesser fan"
