DeJennsitized Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Yeah i keep discovering the story in this song more and more each time i listen to it."Dang... Dang... Dang... Dang.... Dang!!"Ahaha, I love that bit. I really like this song...so random and wierd. I went and listened to the original after I heard Green Day's cover. I'm starting to really like The Who
Guest Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I think I love this cover more than the original. If anyone still doesn't have it, there's a thread for info on where to get them all that I think got moved.
Spider Tre Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 this probably one of the best, if not THE best, cover they have ever donei never get tired listening to it
greendaytone Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Here's an awesome video of The Who playing this song live...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlBip8CV1P8Check out Pete Townsend's famous windmill guitaring!

Tubbie Head Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 ^ yeah. I've heard it before (FROM THE WHO.. so) .. And I Love the song! And have to say that I also LOOOOOOOVED this cover! I think it's my favourite
Nova-Caine Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I'd love to hear the version Billie did at his home studio, singing and playing all the parts.
Anja Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 You can definitely hear the influences The Who had on Billie lyric-wise. Good cover. Makes me feel relaxed Can anyone do me a favor and convert this song into MP3 so I can listen to it on my MP3 Player? Please, please, please! And maybe do the same with the other three covers
music_that_is Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 The best cover Green Day have ever made! Right now I'm listening the original The Who version, after it finishes I'm gonna listen GD's cover again and again
Another Urchin Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 At first, I did not like this cover. I loved the original so much, I thought nothing could ever beat it. Green Day changed a few lyrics and it just didn't connect with me. But after a couple listens, it slowly grew. And grew. And now I love it! I realized a cover is another bands interpretation of a song... not the exact same thing.Out of curiosity, what lyrics were changed? This isn't close to my favorite Who song, but I love the Who. The cover is good. It sounds like the style of the Who, but it's clearly Billie Joe. He does a good job throughout. It's clear how this was an inspiration for Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming (which should be no surprise to anyone who read a band interview soon after American Idiot, since this song was mentioned on more than one occasion).

Better be nice to an old engine driver). But The Who sings 'Girl Guide' instead of 'Girl' in the live version, which Green Day doesn't. I think those are the only differents with the The Who-version.In my opinion, the Live at Leeds version kicks so much ass!The Who - A Quick One While He's Away [LIVE AT LEEDS 1970]Will Green Day perform this masterpiece live during the World Tour?
WorryRock02 Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 maybe....during american idiot tour they performed the clash's cover
farley drexel hatcher Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I hope they perform it live, that'd be wicked xD
greendaytone Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 A love listening to this song. It's a fub mini journey with so many different cool bits. Hats of to The Who, but i like the Green Day version!
Sarahnade. Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'd love to hear the version Billie did at his home studio, singing and playing all the parts.I think I read in an article that Billie Joe had recorded the song in his home, playing every part by himself. I didn't know if that was the version that was released or not. Does anyone know? Some people on YouTube were saying they didn't like it because it was too much the same to the original. For the people who think this is too much the same, I like how they made sound similar because it gives respect to the original version. If they would have changed it up, people would be mad at that too, so what do you want from them? And look at the other covers they've done: Tired of Waiting, Outsider and I Fought the Law. They sound very alike to the originals. Besides, this cover doesn't sound exactly like the original. They shortened by at least 2 minutes, it's more clearer and louder. They basically remastered it.This is my favorite Green Day cover. There's nothing technically wrong with it. Good vocals and good sound. Just because it's by Green Day doesn't mean it's bad (for people who don't like Green Day) It's an amazing cover, and they deserve some credit. No one could have done it better, I think.I really like every part of it, especially the beginning because it has this choir feel to it, the "dang...dang...dang" part, and the "you! you! you! you are forgiven!" Whenever that part comes on, I imagine Billie pointing at the fans in the audience.I really hope they play this live. I think that would be AHHHMAZING! =)
Sarahnade. Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Oh, and also, right before "Ivor the Engine Driver", somebody laughs. Does anyone know who that is?
jose armstrong Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I hope they perform it live, that'd be wicked xDfwikipedia:"They have also performed all six sections of the song at sound checks"

I didn't know if that was the version that was released or not. Does anyone know? That's the version I'd love to hear as well but that's not the version that made the album. The interview stated that the band then recorded a version of the song for the album. I'd love to hear Billie's drumming and everything. I guess we never will though, one of those things he did one day at home probably bored and is now locked away forever, there must be so much GD stuff locked away that we'll never get to hear. Oh and Tony, you love listening to Green Day Well I never Looking forward to meeting you in Rocktober x
Foxboro Hot Tubs Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 This song is just incredible awesome!!I always loved that song and hearing it by my favorite band is like ... just fucking brilliant and they really did a brilliant job.I think it's pretty ventured to cover The Who. I mean, I didn't doubt that Green Day could to it but it's always really ventured to cover songs of such a legend. That's the version I'd love to hear as well but that's not the version that made the album. The interview stated that the band then recorded a version of the song for the album. I'd love to hear Billie's drumming and everything. I guess we never will though, one of those things he did one day at home probably bored and is now locked away forever, there must be so much GD stuff locked away that we'll never get to hear. yeah, unfortunately .... there must be really a ton of songs ... A TON
clusterbomb Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 its a hell of a lot better than the original recording but its equally as good as the live at rolling stones circus thing the who did in 67? its as if they covered the way the who did it live, just with a few tweaks here and there.it has always been 1 of my favorite songs, ive played it in my band a few times over the years and its just immense that green day covered it.
Anja Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Can anyone do me a favor and convert this song into MP3 so I can listen to it on my MP3 Player? Please, please, please! And maybe do the same with the other three covers Please?
