Cool, so you're getting to see them for the first time in July then? I'm going to that show too! :D

Yeah, I can't wait! It's definitely going to be the best day of my life. I want to see them again next time they come around here, as well. :D

Awesome stories everyone!

I haven't read every single thing in the thread, but what I did read were pretty cool stories

I do feel very new though, everyone's talking about '04 or '05 (or way earlier), and then there's me September '08. :/

I just got into green day about a month ago (wow it seems much longer) - my friend played me 'she's a rebel' and then i spent that entire night listening to green day songs and watching concerts on youtube. The next day I went out and bought '21st century breakdown' and 'american idiot', and later that week i got the 'international superhits' album. Since then i've got nearly all the albums they've made, and GD's become my LIFE...

Yay, I'm not the newest fan here! xD

(I'm not making fun of you whatsoever, just a little yay-reaction )

I got into green day in late '05...I loved holiday and bobd, but when wake me up got released,I really wanted to buy this record (which I did :D),and I coulnd't stop listenig to it.Everywhere I was,I just HAD to have that cd with me(:And in early '06 I bought the other albums too. They were the first 'real' band I liked and they got me into all the other bands I am now listening to,they kinda introduced me to rock music I guess. They made me want to play guitar, and I'm veryyy happy I started playing guitar. They really made me to the person I am today in some ways, and I am very thankful for that (:

Once upon a time there was a very young and impressionable girl called Emma.

I remember hearing Minority, and I thought it kind of 'spoke to me' in some way, I used to be one of those kids who followed the crowd and was afraid to be different. I got Warning for my birthday the same year, then I sort of forgot about Green Day for a bit, well not forgot, just pushed them to one side while I came to terms with leaving primary school. In 2004 when I heard American Idiot, I knew I loved them again, and haven't looked back since.

Wow, that got emotional.

I really remember well how I got into Green Day! It was during the American Idiot era, like a lot of people.

The first GD song I ever heard was Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. I immediately liked the song! And I thought “oh, a new band, they look great…” (yeah I know… very stupid thought… I don’t live in the countryside, I have internet and all, but I wasn’t into music at that time…). I started to love them right after the end of the song!

A few days later, I went to the bookshop and I saw a magazine with an article about Green Day. I bought it and as soon as I went home I read it. It was saying “Green Day, they’re back for their new album!” and there was a little review for all their other albums. I said “Oh, shit! New album! I definitely have to go and buy all of their albums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

So I went to the store and bought all of their albums, and the same day!!!

Since then (summer 2005), I’ve been in love with them!!! And I buy everything that is related to them (CDs, DVDs, t-shirts, clocks, bags, magazines and all… no, no, don’t worry, I’m not addicted at all!) That’s the reason why I like to call my bedroom “My Green Day World”!!!

And thanks to them I’ve made a lot of progress in English and now I know what I’d like to do for a living.

And I also have fun quoting them all time!!! And sometimes I don’t do it on purpose… I mean, if I love a sentence and if it is related to what we’re talking about, I could say it!!! So in that case I’m “oh, Green Day’s sentence” lol

well in 2005 i saw on tv a band who sing a great song"boulevard of broken dreams"...I said "yeah it's pretty good, the lead singer is cute..whatever"...in time i forgot this band and when i entered at high school(2008 sepember),i meet a girl who is now my mate bank and my BF ^^...i saw this girl is rocket and on her phone are some Green Day songs...I listened again "boulevard of broken dreams" and then i remembered the band who i saw on tv some years ago and whose lead singer was so hot  then i started to love them...I go home, i turn on my pc and,i entered on DC++ and i take some Green Day song and some photos with BJ of course :wub::wub::wub: then i looked for some video with them...so in 2008 november or october i got into Green Day and now i have all their albums :wub::wub::wub:

I got into Green Day when I was 12 or something like that.

I ended up stealing my sister's American Idiot CD (it was copied.. schhh xD) after hearing Wake Me Up When September Ends and listened to it over and over again.

I got to know their older stuff a while later when I got Dookie from my grandma. Haha. I fell deeper in love with them then, and bought more and more CDs :) I think I like their older stuff better now.. But that depends on my mood, too. My favorite CD with them is Insomniac..

And yeah, I'm so fuckin happy to have them in my life :D

I'm going to see them twice in October.. God, I can't believe it's actually going to happen!

Posted

I got into Green Day like a year ago, and I didn't go to a show yet, but I'll go soon :D I started buying the albums in... october or so. And GDC, I joined some months ago too.

I am... quite a new fan, comparing to all of you! haha

I'm a newcomer from the American Idiot era. If that counts as new.

Actually, American Idiot was one of my last CDs. I didn't even hear it until after I got Dookie, International Superhits!, Nimrod. and Insomniac (I got them at the same time, don't remember which one I listened to first), Warning:, and Shenanigans. (in that order)

Then after American Idiot I got Kerplunk! and 21st Century Breakdown, but I still never had 1039/SOSH. I can't find it anywhere.

EDIT: Oh, I never explained how I got into them when I didn't hear American Idiot. Anyway, I was about 10 and I didn't even listen to rock music. Then my friend sent me about 20 Green Day songs and I put them onto a mixed CD. Some examples of songs were Misery, She, Deadbeat Holiday, Macy's Day Parade, Burnout, Longview, Welcome to Paradise, ...well there's a lot more but my memory is rusty.

Then I went to visit my sister who is 13 years older than me. She bought Dookie when it came out when she was in 8th grade. She never really listened to it, though. She's into country music. So she gave it to me. That's how Dookie was my first CD.

aw I love reading these stories. :happy: Here's mine;

I think I've been hearing Green Day songs various times when growing up, because I recognized songs like Basket Case, When I Come Around and Good Riddance right away when I started exploring the band. Anyways, the first time I conciously heard Green Day was somewhere in mid '04 (before American Idiot was released). I was watching this documentary thingie on MTV called '20th greatest rock bands' or something like that. Green Day made the list somewhere (I think they were like 5 or so xD) and they just showed bits and pieces of live footage and video clips, telling a brief story of the band. What caught my eye (well, ear really) was Good Riddance because I recognized the song, and I always thought it was such a nice song but I never knew what it was called or who it was. Long story short, I wrote down the song title and band name and downloaded it off Limewire along with some other random Green Day songs. Since my internet was so slow, downloading was a pain in the ass those days, so I became obsessed with playing the few songs I had over and over again.

A few months after that, American Idiot was released. When I first saw the American Idiot video I was like 'wow that's an awesome song!' and was impatiently waiting for the title and artist, only to find out it was actually Green Day xD I remember seeing the videos for American Idiot, and later Holiday and Boulevard of Broken Dreams quite often on tv and they always seemed to interest me way more as any other video that was played. I became obsessed with Holiday, and to this day that's still one of my favorite Green Day songs. Because I really liked all 3 singles of American Idiot, I decided to buy the album. (something I hardly ever did back in those days) This was in january '05, just a few days after the band had played in my country (gah I can still kill myself for that!). I fell in love with the album and started searching for more Green Day. When they announced a second show in my country, me and my friend hesitated for a moment (first concert for both of us) but we bought tickets pretty quick. Awaiting the big show I got International Superhits! and watched a lot of live footage on youtube and such. I was becoming a bigger fan, having Green Day pictures for avatars, screensavers, desktops and decorating my room with pictures of them. ( I remember my first birthday after having discovered them, man I got so many posters and shit xD)

The true obsession began after seeing the boys live in july '05. It was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. They'd blown me away and I spent days on my happy cloud after that gig. I believe I completed my GD cd collection that summer. I was downloading videos and saving pictures and following news on the boys. For a long time, Green Day was pretty much all I listened to. That calmed down after a while, but I had a second wave of Green Day obsessiveness when I was converting this friend of mine who hardly listened to music at all. (I am now seeing GD with her in the fall :))

As of right now, the obsession has died down a bit again. I have so much more music to choose from nowadays. However, Green Day will always remain 'my band'. This is the band I will always feel comfortable with. This is the band I listen to when I feel extremely sad, extremely happy or extremely angry. This is the band I like to keep updated with, the band I watch interviews from and the band I know the most about. Green Day can put a smile on my face with the little things they do or say, as if they are close friends or relatives that I know all the way through. I simply just love this band.

aw man that was way longer as I'd expected, sorry for that

Ah ok, so you got in to them when you were 10??

I did.

I can't exactly remember when I first became a fan. I know it was shortly after the album came out. Like, I always here When I Come Around, Good Riddance, and Basket Case, but I didn't think much of it. Then I watched the American Idiot video and I was like, "Hey, this sounds good and finally a band that knows how to tell the truth." After that, I dug up some of their old stuff and found GDC 2 and a half years later. :)

Then when I started getting money and shit, I bought their albums, posters, magazines, whatever that had Green Day. And every since, I've been a fan and they'll stick to me for many years to come.

Anyway, I love reading stories about how people got into Green Day for mine isn't very interesting. I find other's more fascinating.

Another great story to read there, thanks! Something quite ironic about using money for your confirmation to buy Insomniac! haha love it!

Haha, yeah. Pretty odd. I'm sure the shop employee was wondering why the hell I was buying it! haha

The first time I ever saw footage of them live, on Storytellers........oh my fucking god

Oh my gosh. I think Storytellers was the first time I seen them live too...It was definatly the first thing I taped. I remember I was so excited for it to come on...

I remember how mad and jealous I was getting at the people asking them lame questions.

This thread makes me all smiley :)

Alright so after like proly 2 or 3 months of just coming on this forum and reading everything....I've finally decided to get into the discussions haha.

Anyways. The first time I truly ever got into music period was midway through my 6th grade school year. And of course not knowing any better at the time I decided to go with the so called "popular" music. We all know what that is nowadays.50 Cent, Eminem and all that garbage.I listened to that till midway through the summer when I went to visit my grandfather(Who btw is in his own rock band) and he asked what kind of music I was into.I offered him my headphone and within seconds he ripped it out, drove me down to the local music store and said handed me a copy of Dookie. He said "Here, this is real music" at first I was just trying to be nice and accept the gift with no intention of really ever listening to it.But after awhile I became curious and gave in.From the very first chord of When I Come Around I fell in love with Green Day and always have been ever since.I continued with American Idiot and instantly fell in love. The band has opened my eyes to so many things and has made me who I am today. They can relate to almost every aspect in my life and keep me from going insane.

I gotta say that listening to all that rap $#!T was honestly the best mistake I have ever made.

There's my story.Haha

The first Green Day song I ever heard was Holiday...and I freakin fell in love. I was 9 though, so of course my mom wouldn't let me buy the CD. I eventually suckered her into letting me get it when I was 11 and I bought International Superhits at the same time. I actually only found GDA during this past school year though... :/ After hearing International Superhits I bought all the other albums. I literally searched fansites and everything to make sure I had all their CD's (well not including live albums). I'm really glad that my cousin had me listen to her American Idiot CD; Green Day is a big part of who I am today and when things are kinda suckish for me I'll listen to Green Day and they give me a reason to keep going. They've inspired me to work to become a better musician; Billie Joe is my role model and I look up to him

Strangely enough I fell in love with Green Day at the very beginning of the AI era, but not with AI. It was actually with Warning. This was still a time when all I listened to was country music, nothing else. But then, I heard Minority and fell in love with it. I searched for it and listened to it over and over cause I couldn't get the freaking song out of my head. It drove me crazy, so I went out and bought Warning. Come to find out who Green Day actually were and that they sang a lot of songs that I knew from when I was younger. For example, When I Come Around. I makes me think of being at the pool in like 4th grade (12 years ago?). I used to love that song!!! I just never knew who sang it. At the time though I couldn't tell you the name of a single song I heard on the radio, let a lone the artist. I just knew which songs I liked when they came on. Anyway, shortly after buying warning, I started paying attention, bought AI followed by Dookie and the rest of the albums and now I hardly EVER listen to country, I have to be in a rare mood. Its like Green Day turned on a switch in my head and for that I am thankful.

I fell in love during the AI era and bought all the albums (love 'em all in different ways). I check GDC multiple times per day, new info about our favorite punks makes me so happy!

I love each member of the band for their unique personalities, talents, and striking good looks  Magazines of them with beautiful pictures are so fun for me because all of their interviews are pure gold! Seeing them on TV makes me glow with happiness and I almost cry with happiness when they win all their awards!

I love 21CB (I think it's their best album!) and I'm finally seeing them in concert (July 20 in Boston! Feel free to say hi, I'm a little, super-peppy person with black hair and a super-petite, yet to be converted to Green Day sister chaperone)!

I love meeting people on this site, except for the few mean people I have encountered...

Rock on fellow fans!

I guess the very first GD song i heard was warning thought i can't remenber exactly  , but yeah in the AI era i just loved all the singles specially holiday (my fav song ) but it wasn't till know your enemy that i really got into their music. I received American Idiot as a gift when I was 12. Didn't really like it, but a little while later a friend noticed it in my room and insisted that I check out some other Green Day stuff. After that, I downloaded basically every album of theirs (yes, illegally) and just sort of picked up on them. I appreciate American Idiot more nowadays, which is probably due to the fact that I no longer here the singles on the radio every day and that I'm a little more open minded. Although, I also stopped listening to Green Day for a few years, and I find myself enjoying a lot of stuff I disliked back in the day.

You remember the exact day you got into Green Day?

I do perfectly. I even remember the first time I ever heard Green Day but I didn't know it was them. I remember being in the mall and they had videos playing and waiting was on. But then the summer of 2005 after school led out I got bored and I would listen to the music channels. I had heard American Idiot before but then BOBD came out and I actually refused to listen to it cause I didn't know how it went. So one day me and my little brother were home alone and we were listening to the music channels on TV and BOBD came on so I told my brother "Leave it. I want to hear this song." After that my life changed completly. I downloaded American Idiot a few days after that and I loved it. It wasn't until Live 8 aired that I actually got to see what they looked like. I was like omg the lead singers hot. and I first thought Mike was Tre and Tre was Mike. Then I bought Dookie and International Superhits. I downloaded everything else before I bought it. I remember the first time I heard 1039 SOSH I hated it, but I gave it another listen a while ago and loved it. Same with Kerplunk. Then I bought all of there other albums and ever since then I have been there biggest fan for 4 years. And I finally get to see them live twice. Hopefully I will get to meet them too but it's not big of deal if I don't.

Well it´s now 4 1/2 years ago when I got into Green Day.

My husband took me to one of their concerts during the AI tour.

Honestly I´ve never heard of Green Day before.

The only songs were the 2 releases of their new album.

So i was standing there in the crowd, watching this awesome band, came out the venue and the only word I said to my husband was:

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

From that day on I fell in love with Green Day!

And today I ´m a bigger fan than my husband :D

Posted

I got into Green Day in about 2005, after I saw the Wake Me Up When September Ends video. I remember watching the video with my mom and saying "this band rocks!" And a couple months later my sisters boyfriend burned me American Idiot. I was hooked after that, here is the order of CD's I BOUGHT.

(1) Dookie

(2) Nimrod

(3) International Superhits

(4) American Idiot

(5) Insomniac

(6) 39/Smooth

(7) Kerplunk

(8) Shenanigans

(9) Warning

(10) Kerplunk (original non remastered)

(11) 21st Century Breakdown

Now I think that's the order, not sure though oh and I'm not counting Bullet In A Bible. But yeah that's how/when I got into Green Day :D

I first started listening to Green Day when I was in 9th grade. I really don't remember how I first started listening to them - I'm now nearly 19 years old and a sophomore in college. All I know is that from the moment I first heard them - they have been my favorite band.

I probably first heard of them/started listening to them when American Idiot came out because at the time...I was in 9th grade. The album before that, Warning was released in 2000...which makes me 10 years old and 5th grade? Yeah, I think that was way too young for me to listen to Green Day. Back then I was into `N Sync, Backstreet Boys, and Aaron Carter (Haha) --- I'm sure I heard Green Day songs on the radio during bus rides, etc...but I didn't really care about music that much until 8th/9th grade.

I've been obsessed with Green Day for the past five years. I have their posters in my bedroom at home, and my dorm room at school. I once bought a Green Day belt and sign at Spencers. I have 148 Green Day songs on my Itunes. When I'm listening to music - It's usually always Green Day...

The radio station I listen to - The DJ's all know me because I'm always calling in to request Green Day. :) -- One year in high school for Christmas...my friends and I exchanged gifts...and I got a couple GD wristbands, a GD notebook, and GD pen. -- In 11th grade I was in a 'Media Arts' class and one of our projects was to make a music video...I made one for Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

I just love Green Day a lot, especially after reading fans storie's of meeting them and everyone seems to say "They're the nicest guys I've ever met." I admire that they take so much time to thank their fans...a lot of bands don't do that. I mean, whenever I need cheering up...all I have to do is turn on some Green Day music.

I'm attending my first Green Day concert on July 10th......3 days before my 19th birthday. I'm so excited. The boys are also having a meet and greet at the Fargo mall that same day @ 2pm. I got a wristband so I get to meet them! :) I'm sure I'll love them even more after that happens...
