greendaytone Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 yeah, that would've been really cool.i met sven there, so i would have seen you too are you going to any of my shows in fall? Are yours in Germany? I don't have tickets for any right now. I'm going to 2 US shows in the summer and then 2 London shows in October! Which one's are you going to?I bought American Idiot just before 21CB was released. I don't know why I didn't discover them any earlier (I'm 27). I listen to a lot of music, but I guess I always thought that GD were too mainstream or poppy. Maybe I'm going crazy or something, but I LOVE them now. I have all their albums on my iPod. My current fave songs are Murder City, !Viva La Gloria! and Jesus Of Suburbia. They all seem to tell my life story.Awesome! It's great that people can get in to Green Day at any age. Lucky enough to discover them i say!
Isabel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 You remember the exact day you got into Green Day? I do as well, it was a crucial moment in my life

.:Whatsername:. Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 What album did you buy after American Idiot?I just edit my post. But I seriously don't remember. It was either Dookie, Insomniac or Nimrod.
Princess Consuela Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I bought American Idiot just before 21CB was released. I don't know why I didn't discover them any earlier (I'm 27). Welcome And it's better late than never, right? I do as well, it was a crucial moment in my life But you mean you remember the date? Cause I do recall listening to AI and seeing Bullet in a Bible for the first time (which made me love them) but I can't say it was like 12.06.06 e.g.
Ally Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 i got into them the december after AI was released so that will be 5 years now or near enough anyway! don't wanna go into the story right now...but yeah thats when i got into them and didnt join here until like 3 years later...even though i was on gda everyday!
Supermodel*Robot Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I only got into Green Day December '05. For some reason, I was like the only kid in the seventh grade that had never heard American Idiot, Holiday or BOBD. Anyways, I really wanted the new Gwen Stefani album for Christmas, and I saw that American Idiot was part of the 2 for $25 at HMV so I figured, what the hell, I'll ask for it. This was about a year and a half after American Idiot came out.The CD blew my mind, but I didn't even consider that they might have other albums. I was 13 and dumb. But then my brother told me that they were the same people that sing Good Riddance (which had been my favourite song since I was 5) and I was all HOLY SHIT and went and researched that. Which is what lead me to realizing that Green Day had indeed been around for a very, very long time.Insomniac was the first CD I ever bought with my own money & I got it the week before Father's Day 2006. So three years ago. I'd already downloaded (yes, illegally) pretty much the whole Green Day discography, but after buying Insomniac, I slowly ended up buying all their albums. I was amazed by everything, the names of the albums, the artwork, how the lyrics were handwritten, etc. Buying 21stCB on its release date was an indescribable feeling. As unpoetical as this sounds, I suddenly felt like I was no longer a noob. It's one thing to just mosey into a record store and buy Dookie, it's another thing to have to count down the days to release & rush into the store to get your hands on the new music the moment it's released.Wow. Okay.

Okay.Thats an awesome story dude! Thanks for posting. Its funny how many people probably thought American Idiot was Green Day's first album! Just highlights how they've conquered and then conquered again. And i can see what you mean about anticipating this album coming out... its such a great part of the process!I'm also a fan since AI, so i can maybe add something to my experiences if you like to hear it Please do...

Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 You remember the exact day you got into Green Day? Yeah First I got it wrong though, and when I looked it up, it turned out I was over a month wrong. But oh well.I got into Green Day only on September 15 '08. Edit: Do I still count as AI era fan? There wasn't any 21CB footage out by the . I heard WMUWSE on the radio and completely fell in love with it, as much as I never loved a song before. It got stuck in my head and didn't want to go out of it for 2 days, and after having it requested on the same radio station, I started looking up other videos from that band that made that song, and I liked pretty much everything. (Oh, and loved the Walking Contradiction video, the first vid I saw after the WMUWSE clip, that even then I already hated for that it stopped the song), and I got into Green Day.I first borrowed all the Green Day albums they had at the library (Warning, Nimrod and BIAB), and I loved everything (and remember some stories from when I first listened each and all, but I won't bother you with that). Also really liked BIAB, I just loved their performance and personalities, from what I saw from it. (when I saw it for the first time, I didn't even know which name belonged to which band member) I got my first albums on my birthday, which was over 6 months later, though, Dookie and ISH!. Now I still don't have all their albums, but after 8 months or so, I gave in on not downloading and downloaded the rest of the albums I didn't have yet because I couldn't listen them in any other way anymore. (Stupid WMG:mad:). And as Supermodel*Robot (sorry, don't know your name) said, buying 21CB was indeed a special feeling, not just buying an old album that you've already heard anyway in a shop, but buying something completely new that you've been eagerly waiting and counting down for. (I know I'm a horrible writer, sorry for that. But I like telling stories like this )

Nele Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Ah ok, so you got in to them when you were 10??i got into them when i was 10 too. best time of my life reading their lyrics on my bed and listening to AI. But as Brian said I was too young too to get to one of there shows. But I'm going this year. I remember that my parents thought it was a phase... well, it was not.It took me ages to find this forum though, because I wasn't allowed to use the internet back then.edit: i even play the guitar and bass just because i wanted to play their songs.
.Brian Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Please do... i'll do tomorrow, i'm too tired right now

Nele Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Awesome, again. Its not a phase with Green Day!yeah right. i had pretty many phases with bands. but after a month or so my obsession for them decrease. never happened with Green Day.
Laura! Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I got into Green Day in May of '05. I remember my friends listening to BOBD in the car over and over and over, at first I didn't really like it but then after listening to it so many times that it grew on me. So one day I was bored and decided to look up and see who sung that song. I found Holiday and American Idiot that day, I remember first time listening to Holiday how I couldn't understand a thing Billie was singing and got so frustrated. So after that my friend burnt me a copy of American Idiot and it was history.I remember the order I got the CD's in... American Idiot (burnt copy), International Superhits, Warning, Dookie, Shenanigans, Insomniac, American Idiot (actual CD), Kerplunk, 1039, BIAB when it came out, and then of course 21CB the day it came out.... I think I got it at like 9:00 in the morning. I almost went to their Dayton Ohio show in October of 05 but my parents wouldn't let me cause no one would go with me and it was a school night... I was so pissed off.But since then Green Day has been my all time favorite band and will stay there. No other band can compete.
Muttweed182 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Ahh I remember it like it was yesterday. I was walking into my living room where my brother was sitting. He was watching MTV and I was REALLY bored so I decided to watch it with him. After some random pop song got done playing there was this riff that came literally out of nowhere. I was caught off guard and shocked before I knew it the vocals came in. "Don't wanna be an American Idiot". I remember I was like WTF? Is he talking about me? I starting paying attention to the song more and more and it was just burst of energy and I loved it. Once it ended MTV (the douches they are) didn't relieve of my biggest question, "who the fuck are those guys?". My bro didn't know either so I was pretty stuck. But I was at a friends house and I hear on the radio this song about to played called "Welcome to Paradise". All's I thought was "cool name" but once those vocals started I instantly recognize the voice of the band I was desperately trying to find. The song itself was the definition of amazing to me. There is no other pop punk song like Welcome to Paradise. The radio finally revealed the name, "Green Day". I instantly looked up American Idiot and was blown away one song by one. The album was just something else. I had to get more so I went to my cousins ipod and downloaded a random album just chose one randomly. It ended up being Nimrod. The album had this happy feeling to it that always put a smile on my face. Then Dookie which put this fun energetic feeling in me. Then Insomniac which put this weird angry spiral confused feeling in me. Then Warning which gave me this relaxed feeling for the most part. Then I checked out 1039 and Kerplunk and I knew this was my favorite band. But I wanted more so I found out about Pinhead Gunpowder and The Network. I learned a shit ton of songs on drums. I starting listening to punk rock in general which to this day is my favorite genre. I started checking out bands from punk forums finding new music after new music. Different genres everything. That alone holds a extremely special place in my heart for them.I now have 21st Century Breakdown and I'm pretty confident it's my favorite GD album tooooo many great songs. I can't wait for 21st CB to bring in some new fans so I can hear the story's and think of myself in the same shoes during the AI era.
Isabel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 But you mean you remember the date? Cause I do recall listening to AI and seeing Bullet in a Bible for the first time (which made me love them) but I can't say it was like 12.06.06 e.g.Well I've always known about Green Day, since I was around 6; my brother was really into them when he was younger. But I remember it was about 3 days before Christmas in 2001, when my cousin and I sat in her room hovering over Dookie and Nimrod in absolute awe...it was then that I realised how good they were.I even remember, in order, what albums I bought/acquired and when.
Clockwise Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 First off, I loved all of your stories. Here's mine. It was early 05' and my friend and I were hanging out when the BOBD video came on. We both immediately loved the song and were making fun of how there were three people walking so he wasn't walking alone...So then, I started watching FUSE more and more and got aquainted with American Idiot the song, which I loved. I felt it was just what I needed. So the next day I went to the record store and picked up AI. I listened to it and it totally blew me away. I ran over to my bestfriends house and then we listened together and he loved it as much as me. I began to look up stuff about them on the web, which led me to GDA. I've come here at least once a week since 05' just never made an account. Anyways, second CD I got was Kerplunk! which I loved also. Then I began buying the rest of the CDs relatively quickly (the last one I got was Warning I believe). Then in Sept. 05 I went to the Hartford show with my Green Day loving best friend and sang along every word. We were both totally thrown back. It was amazing. Right then, we knew we wanted to make music and start a band. We had a GD party the weekend 21CB came out. They just inspired me so much. This summer I'll be attending my third Green Day show with my bestfriend in the same arena we saw our first GD show in. We are stoked. Green Day are and always will be my favorite band, and there's my little story

Isabel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Go on then... Haha ok......Nimrod was my first album, my friend bought it for me that Christmas (2001) It was definitely a great first album to have, so much variety in every song! Then I bought Dookie in January 2002 because I had heard it the previous month and felt like it went hand in hand with Nimrod...Longview was my new favourite song.I bought International Superhits in January that year as well, because I heard it was a compilation album of different songs and thought it'd be interesting to see what else that had that I hadn't heardI bought Warning in April 2002 but felt slightly disappointed in it, as it didn't have the same VUMP as the others did...eventually I got more into itThen came Insomniac in August 2002. I found it in a small record shop in Waterford and was absolutely astounded when I listened. It had the same impact on as Dookie did and I couldn't believe that a band could be so amazing. There was a bit of a break in between Insomniac and Shenanigans, as Green Day seemed to be on some sort oh hiatus after the Pop Disaster tour. (I wasn't aware of The Network's existence yet) so 2003 and half of 2004 went without any album purchases. But then in June 2004, I was buying a Blink 182 album, when I noticed Shenanigans. It was over €20 but because I hadn't heard of it before, I naively thought it was a new album and threw my money on the counter immediately. After hearing Tired Of Waiting For You and a few others, I quickly learned that it wasn't so much of a "new album" after all. But I still found a great love for it. Suffocate <3Then on the 17th of September 2004 after I stopped screaming, I bought American Idiot (Europe got it first!) and just listened my little heart out of it. After I saw them live in January 05, I got reeeeeeeeally hooked and started looking them up online and realised that Dookie wasn't the first album....In February I was in HMV and my eyes were torn between Kerplunk and 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. But Kerplunk won because it was only €10 and 1,039 SOSH was €30.But my parting with 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours was short lived; I bought the standard edition in April 2005 and my album discography was complete. Although this album turned out to be my favourite in the end, and I spent days trying to conclude how I managed to buy it last. And then of course, there were plenty of compilation/bootlegs/DVDs/interviews bought in between. Oh, and 21st Century Breakdown in May this year
greendaytone Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Awesome, thanks for sharing the history on that!1,039 made it as you fave? How cool. I love that album too. I agree about Insomniac too, its just got so much energy in it! Nimrod is a great album to start with too. It was the one that really got me into them.

(although this thread is meant for the newcomers)Yeah, I really love 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours the most. I was 17 at the time when I bought it, so I really related to alot of the songs on it, more so than any other album...and I still do! Yeah, Insomniac is so energetic and it'd also be a great one to listen to if you want to get into Green Day
