AfterShock Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 When this song was getting tons of radio airplay, I got kind of sick of it...but I love it again
Devil Jimmy Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 got alot of good n bad memories of this song n many funny memories hehe
Heart.Grenade.Bree Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I love this song. Its got so much power and emotion. I can play it on guitar.
!VivaLaGreenDay!23 Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 For me I can relate to a lot of Green Day songs and a lot of parts in this song i understand and can agree with. This song can be very emotional for me at times no matter where I am. Everytime I listen to it, I get a weird but good feeling, but this song is definately a cleansing of the soul for me!!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG!!! "When it's time to live and let die, and you cant get another try, something inside this heart has died. You're in ruins........"
green-day1972 Posted June 27, 2010 Posted June 27, 2010 I'm so sick of that song... and I don't like BJ's voice in
UnderClassHero Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 i wish they played it slightly faster ,it's a tad slow for me. but their live versions are kickass
Sheehan Rysa Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I bloody love this song ! The solo makes me wanna make out with my bf
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 Yesterday night I was listening to this song.... and from "Did you try to live on your own / when you burned down your house and home..." on to the end of the song. And I was just like ... . Could relate to that so. much. all of a sudden...probably not in the way it is in the story (as far as there is one way in this album/story), but well..... it's amazing how Green Day have a song for almost every situation, originally meant like that or otherwise. <3
Juliette Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I realised there's like 6 different versions of this song still can't decided which I like best either but this is still one of my favourite songs ever.
UnderClassHero Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 I realised there's like 6 different versions of this song still can't decided which I like best either but this is still one of my favourite songs ever. six different versions?! really? i didn't know that. i only knew there were two versions of 21st century breakdown though.
SweetChildren_ Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I like this song, but after hearing it on the radio and on the TV all the time, I sort of got a little tired of it. But it's a great song.
GloriasInferno Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 This song is so beautiful.. I especially love it live, it always makes me shiver for some reason. It's also one of my favorite songs.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 I discovered lately I have this song 15 (!!!!!!!!) times on my iPod. only two are exactly the same, though.... it's rather sick. Another thing I recently found out, which I'm awfully late on. Arms in "lay down your arms, give up the fight", also means arms as in weapons, not only arms as in limbs. I suck.
jensername Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 This is an amazing song. I've always loved the line: When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul. I've seen it happen to a lot of people. It's sad
Smoothed Out Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 When I saw Live at Abbey Road and the first chords came in, idek what happened something just kind of clicked within me and I knew that by getting into Green Day it was something completely different to anything else I'd become involved with. Btw I saw that in the first week of discovering their awesomness And at first I was obsessed with it from the off, I learnt it on the piano straight away, had it on repeat when I bought 21stCB and literally drove my family round the bend with it. So when they released it as a single with a video, I was pretty excited but after hearing and seeing it everywhere for weeks on end, I became detached and moved on. A little bit sick of it, like it had become more of a public song and it wasn't so private and personal to me anymore because everyone new about it and was listening to it. But when it died down and now I never see it on tv or hear on the radio, if it comes on shuffle on my ipod it gives me that feeling again and brings back so many memories. When I first saw it live at Birmingham (11 months ago today) I just cried and cried, especially when Jason's piano solo comes in, it just means so much for me because without that song I probably wouldn't have become as involved as I have now with Green Day. Definitely my favourite song to hear live and I love the Broadway cast version too, even though it's a later version it still brings back the memories from before then. It means so much to me.
Sanity Loan Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I had a theory about the title and the meaning of this song the other day. January 21st is inauguration day here in the US (every 4 or 8 years - for a new president)... so the date is 1/21 --> 1, 21.. (Guns). So maybe Billie wrote it after Obama was elected? So waiting for 1/21. And because he is a liberal (who generally like to help the people of the country) he says the line "lay down your arms, give up the fight" saying that the poor Americans don't have to fight for their lives anymore now that Obama is "here to save them." Random thought.....

Random thought..... January 21st is my birthday! I had the same thought when I was trying to interpret what this song represented. It's really hard to understand Billie's lyrics sometimes because he's often very vague and his lyrics sort of have an abstract message. I thought about this after I thought about the whole 21 Gun Salute. This was actually my "first favorite" when I heard the new album. Usually I'll listen to an album for the first time and I'll hear a couple of songs that I immediately label as my favorite on the album. This song and Restless Heart Syndrome were my favorites (and they still sort of are, but I prefer RHS over 21 Guns). It's such a beautiful song, and I'll admit that it sort of got overplayed with the musical and all that, but I still love it. I connected with this song because "21" is a very significant number for me. It's the day of my birthday, it's the day my parents got married on, blah blah blah. I won't bore anyone with the details. I guess my point is that I love this song and the message means something different to anyone who hears it, so it's awesome reading everyone's different opinions on what it could mean on this thread.
Just Kate Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 this is not stupid thought... maybe you're right. i was always wondering why there's 1, 21 Guns... 21 Gun salutes are the firing of cannons or arms as an (military or naval) honor.
gloria123 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 when 21CB first came out 21 guns was my favorite song but when my best friend ( a complete green day poser) sang it and i kept hearing it on the radio it lost its greatness
Nova-Caine Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I got a bit sick of hearing this song at one point but since the live shows and actually seeing it on the World Stage showing last night I've had it on loop most of the day, its beautiful, emotive and his voice is simply haunting, probably the most beautiful song he's ever written x
farley drexel hatcher Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Does anyone else find it refreshing and a bit of shock to hear the album version of this song, now? I've gotten so used to hearing the AI version and random live versions that the album version seems so new again when I hear it. I almost forget the high notes ever existed. It makes you remember what a beautiful song is actually is.
ThisIsNotNora Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 It's really Great song. It was actually the first Green Day Song that made me cry Everytime I hear it I'm getting all Nostalgic and stuff xD I love playing that song too :]
fadi_7 Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 not my fave from the album but i defiantly love it it's my sec fave song and one of the best green day songs and i love the music video
Burnout98 Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 It's not my favourite song from the album but it is very powerful! The good thing that this is my mum's favourite song and she isn't really in to Green Day that much. It is a great song overall and i definitely love the music video to it!
