Sara. Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I cried the first time i heared it. you were not the only one
Punx89 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I love this song..the melody the lyrics...everything!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 you were not the only one i think alot of people cried.i heared it and i was like: then i broke down thinking how beautaful green day was. i like it when he sings: "did you try to live on your own, when you burn down the house and home.did you stand to close to the fire, like a liar looking for forgivnes from a stone!"i cry at that point.
Rezurgam Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 So after a while, I realized why there was the Full House solo in the song. Right before the solo, there's the house reference and how it is being destroyed and rejected. Did you try to live on your ownWhen you burned down the house and home?

Juliette Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 This song is getting so overplayed. Plus I hate the radio edit, they miss out half the song, and all these kids are like, waow yeah i loooove 21 guns & green day & billy jo's so hawt, then you play the actual version and they get really confused.
EuropeanIdiot Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 This song is getting so overplayed. Too bad it's so overplayed... It's such a great song it doesn't deserve to be overplayed.
Ally Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Exactly. Too bad it's so overplayed... It's such a great song it doesn't deserve to be overplayed.the amount it gets played in ridiculous, it like with BoBD radio and music channels just over played it so must, at actually gets boring to listen to after a while
kazoo Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 love it. i think it has just the right amount of credit...it'll be stepping out of the limelight at just the right time, in my opinion. one of those songs like BBD we can look back on and go 'ahh, yes, that was the year..'i think i'm proud to say i've only listened to the album version of this song. i assume the radio killed it, as always?and we always thought it was video that killed the radio :/
HoneyDo666 Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Record of the Year please! And Billie should win Song of the Year for his gorgeous songwriting!I'm so glad this song is getting the credit it deserves!
Red Lights Flash Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 I remember the first time I heard the bridge. It was this whole "wow" kind of feeling. It was odd how it gave me the chills.
Mar Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 i think i'm proud to say i've only listened to the album version of this song. i assume the radio killed it, as always? The first 15 seconds or so of the song are cut (it goes straight to Billie singing), and the guitar solo is shortened. It could have been much worse of an edit, IMO.
BuriedInAHole Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 I love the video..Marc Webb is a genius!
sapphired Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 An absolutely beautiful song.... the radio airplay destroys it though. I think it's difficult to listen to it and not get some form of raw emotion running through you.
Emjay Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 21 Guns is the song i love the most on 21stCB.It's epic, beautiful, simple but powerful, it makes mewanna cry every time i hear it. The only other song (of Green Day) that makes me feel that way is Whatsername, which is my favourite GD song. Anyway, 21 Guns isreally beautiful, i love the "when it's time to live andlet die" part, it's the best one. And when they played itlive, with that piano solo... it was wonderful, there's noother word to describe it. The video's not their best onebut it's still nice too look at, and, just like Good Riddance,BOFD and WMUWSE, being a single didn't spoil the song -right, it's quite annoying ppl pretend to be fans just becausethey heard that song, but that didn't make me bored of thesong at all. Militza i read your interpretation and i think it totally fits, nowi finally understand that whole liar and stone part xD
Black Wolf Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I love this song, lyrics, video, everything. It's so beautiful and sad.
troPunK Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Hey, I am at wits end understanding the lyrics of 21 GunsAlso read all the Song Meaning on GDA, couldn't find a good description for my favorite verse:Can anyone please describe in detail the line:"Did you try to live on your ownWhen you burned down the house and home?Did you stand too close to the fire?Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone"Specially the last two lines, how does it relates with the song?I mean, who is a liar and what does the metaphor "too close to fire" & "liar looking for forgiveness from a stone" exactly means? Thanks! biggrin.gif

There's another post earlier in this thread that's one of the best interpretations I've seen on 21 Guns and it includes what you're asking specifically about.http://www.greendaycommunity.org/Forum/ind...t&p=3028193Like most of the songs on 21CB, with 21 Guns you really have to look at it in context with everything else in the album and where exactly it fits in the loose storyline in order to find the deeper meaning in it. As Militza mentioned in her post, references to destruction, fire, infernos, etc. point to the Christian character; and in the second Viva La Gloria (Little Girl), we learn that Gloria -- the eternal optimist, the torchbearer, the savior -- has been hiding something terrible about herself all along...she's a junkie, and she's been lying to Christian about it: "Little girl, little girl you dirty liar/You're just a junkie preaching to the choir". With that as background, take a look at Militza's post now and see what you make of it. She (I think accurately) observed that Christian and Gloria are actually having a conversation with each other in this song, for the purpose of forgiving, forgetting, and moving on. Gives me the chills every time I hear it now.
♥Christian and Gloria♥ Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 21 Guns is such a beautiful song. When I'm depressed this is my song. I love 'Do you know what's worth fighting for? When it's not worth dying for?' and 'Does the pain weigh out the pride'
bjrules Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 This song was one of the songs on the album that really connected with me when I first heard it. I used to think that it was the best on the album, but even though I still love it, Peacemaker surpasses it now I think.
Bubbles. Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 It's beautiful, the music, the lyrics... it's so powerful, it actually makes me cry... particularly live. Love it!
E!!i Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 It's such an emotional song and I love the lyrics!
