lovelyrita Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Listening now love this song. It captures the anger perfectly.Yeah, when I'm angry or sth like that I always listen to it. Love the two first verses 'I'm not fuckin' around, I think I coming out' I gives so much power!
Mistress.Kate Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Is it just me, or does the main chord rhythm in H&H sound like what you'd get if the Sex Pistols were to play the instrumental bridge in "Prosthetic Head" (off of Nimrod)? I've heard the gripes from some that the rhythm is a ripoff of The Hives' "Main Offender", but if you ask me it sounds a lot closer to what we've already heard from Green Day in Prosthetic Head. Listen for yourself -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uFb1hPpYwI at about 2:11. Makes sense considering the guys are on record saying that 21CB is the most Green Day-inspired album that Green Day has ever made. Also interesting: Nimrod (and thus Prosthetic Head) was released in 1997. "Main Offender" is off The Hives album "Your New Favourite Band", © 2002. So I therefore ask rhetorically: tell me again who borrowed the riff from who? You're totally right. That should make people stop saying that Green Day copied the riff. It's from Prosthetic Head since too long, and that just made me know why i totally love this song, besides its energetic tune and the lyrics and all. Prosthetic Head has been in my top 20 Green Day songs of all time, thats why i fell in love instantly with H&H. I'll go kill myself, how could i not notice it before? Gotta say, doesn't matter how many times they use a similar riff on different songs, i'll always end up loving them. But i disagree on actually think that they recycle their own music, they don't. I can't really explain it but to me, they always make self-improvement and doesn't matter how much you analize their CD's, you can't actually say they're less originals than they ever were. They're getting better through the years, like wine and also, like the first time you know and like something immediately, i'll always have that good taste in my mind when i think of them, remembering their golden years and hoping they always get better
Emjay Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I just love the anger in that song. H&H is one ofmy favourites of the album because it has such an energy, with Billie Joe screaming and those guitar riffs.. nothing betterwhen you're depressed or tired. And i just love the "i'm not fuckingaround" andthe "i'm gonna drink, fight and fuck" lines.I never noticed the riff in Prosthetic Head sounds that much likethe one in H&H, but you're completely right.
Brian Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Now for something completely different, but still somewhat related. I was listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Venice Queen" and there is a part towards the end of the song where they spell out Gloria. But not as rock n roll-y like Green Day's. Just thought it was cool.
Bastard of 1967 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Gotta say, doesn't matter how many times they use a similar riff on different songs, i'll always end up loving them. They never borrow from themselves (or anyone else) without also adding something else to it or changing something up -- a melodic twist, a different chord, or in H&H's case a dirtier sound -- perfectly appropriate and fitting for dropping a pile of F-bombs all over the place.
E!!i Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 It's my second favorite song from 21st Century Breakdown after East Jesus Nowhere. Both songs rock!
Metanoia Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 this song is stuck in my head since 1 week and i can't get it out but at least its a great song
Black Wolf Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I first heard it and was like this is fucking awesome.*Jumps around room one woman mosh pit style.*I just love the anger and the lyrics.and of course "G L O R I A!" at the end.Agree! That's just how i felt when I heard this first time
Charlieks Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 In all honesty, ive never really liked this song so much. I didnt dislike it, but it hasnt grown on me or anything. I like the rest of the album much better
Kryssi. Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 I can't believe they didn't play this one live
Gretsch Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Man, i so wish that they could play this live, its definitely one of my favorites off the album, i just pump it when its on and jam to it, turn the amp up to 11! Would totally rock if at like the start when it has the first pause at like 15 seconds they had a massive explosion of flares behind them live and flames at G.L.O.R.I.A! (someone loves pyro  )I was listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers song "Venice Queen" and there is a part towards the end of the song where they spell out Gloria.U2 in Exit/Gloria was the first to do it... And man those songs rock! (Not as hard as Green Day though)
fleicia Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 One of my favourites of the album, and like the rest of you said it reminds me of FHT, = thumbs up

PansyStrychnine Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 This has to be my favourite song off the album! I loooooove it
newsflash777 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 This song calms me down so much when I'm angry.
Time Bomb Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 When I was first listening to the album, I thaught the album was shit apart from East Jesus Nowhere (haha, don,t all get mad at me just for that, I like Green Day's other albums ) , and then this song came on, and I was like Best song on the album...even if it's a rip off of The Hives's Main Offender and yes, it's my favorite song on the album (people have a hard time believing that )
green-jimb Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 when I heard this song I said "this is the best song of 21CB" I liked from the beginning this song and I really want to hear it live!!"i gonna drink, fight and fuck and im pushing my luck all the time now"
Alan86 Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 It's amazing how the first line can be stuck in your head for days. I find myself walking Around sometimes just thinkin "I'm not fucking around"
Mar Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 You know what I hate about this song? The title. Hand grenades is not one word. As a grammar geek, this bothers me so much! My local paper referenced this song in their writeup of 21CB as one of the best of 2009, and I think a copy editor (like me at my school's paper haha) assumed it was a typo and wrote it the grammatically correct way, but technically the incorrect way for the song. And there's my random pet peeve of the day!
greendaytone Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Why did they have to swear? It should've been "i'm not flipping around!"
Emmalee Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Why did they have to swear? It should've been "i'm not flipping around!" lolit just wouldn't have the same ring to it though, would it?
greendaytone Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 lolit just wouldn't have the same ring to it though, would it?haha, i guess not!! I'm sure they considered it though
