LouLou Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 "I'm a hater, a traitor in a pair of Chuck Taylor's" My friend and I have this thing about our chucks, so that line just makes me smile every time. I always have to rewind that part to listen again!
Jack96 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 IM NOT FUCKING AROUND! I love this song it has such a Foxboro sorta feeling to it!
Nimrod99 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I just love this song. It gets me really pumped up, and I really hope they play it at the show.
Rob Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I heard that Hives song that everyone was saying they copied this song from. The riff is just barely similar, and other than the static voice, they're nothing alike in my opinion.
.Militza. Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 i love it, i just love it. If you get FHT and Green Day, you mix them around in a bowl and then throw in a pinch of angry powder, this song is the result. whenever i hear it, it makes me want to burn a few bridges, almost as if Christian posesses me and i suddenly have genuine feeling of wanting to tell everyone to fuck themselves and then go on a destructive rampage. Irresistable to sing aloud. i just want to get ontop of a demolished building and scream it out at the top of my lungs and then blow my brains out. you can really sense christian's rage in this song, he's mad at gloria, he's mad at the world. everything he's been told is a lie, and all the progress he's made is just burned down. He's self destructive and manipulative and a real asshole, and he doest give a fuck! RAGE RAGE RAGE to the extreme.Same here. And I love this line the most "I'm gonna drink, fight and fuck And pushing my luck All the time now "So powerful.
Palmer89 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I heard that Hives song that everyone was saying they copied this song from. The riff is just barely similar, and other than the static voice, they're nothing alike in my opinion. They might as well use the Hives instrumental in the background and put Billie Joe's voice over the top. It's identical (to me anyway), I just can't take it seriously. It's just a good job 15 of the songs on the album are infinitly superb.
0017dude Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 It's my favorite off the CD! I don't think it's about Christian taking his rage out on Gloria, I think it's about through all the shit and riots, he's trying to find Gloria. As Gloria is his pain killer or sense of happiness. He's not fucking around, so the riots should move outta his way.
spark in the night Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 meh, it's ok I guessjust kinda average to me
tapdancingowl Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Haha, uh, duh, Billie. Of course we read it. He could be so adorable when he's insecure.H&H is definitely one of my favorites. It's a great "Fuck you, I'm going to live my life songs", and it always inspires me when I'm down. One of the verses (below) almost seems like it was written for me. Whenever I hear it, I think of someone who used to be my best friend, and I let her manipulate me, take advantage of me, and overall be a shitty friend. I'm so glad I'm rid of her. If I could tell her something, it'd tell her to listen to this verse and she'd know how I felt."I'm gonna burn it all downI'm gonna rip it outWell, everything that you employWas meant for me to destroyTo the ground nowSo don't you fuck me aroundBecause I'll shoot you downI'm gonna drink, fight and fuckAnd pushing my luckAll the time now"
Comrade Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I listened to that Hives song, and I must say, I didn't notice one single similarity. The guitar, melody is completely different, the vocals are obviously different, and the lyrics seemed to be nothing alike. I don't get how anyone can compare the songs...That aside, H&H is one of my top 3 on the album. Love the energy.

Love the energy. You serious? They're identical, even the pauses and cuts in the instrumental are identical. It's horribly similar.
Samantha Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 My absolute FAVORITE song on the albumIts got so much fire and spunkYou can't not bounce around or dance to it
Tiffx Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 One of the best songs on the album. I also discovered that driving really fast while listening to H&H is the best feeling ever.
Comrade Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 You serious? They're identical, even the pauses and cuts in the instrumental are identical. It's horribly similar.I just played them over the top of each other and they still sound nothing alike to me. That riff to completely different. Alot less fluid, more gaps between notes, as well as longer gaps overall. The timing of the vocals is very different too. I don't get how people are comparing the songs above how many they are in the same key or something, and how literally 3 notes are about the same...
OliDayyy Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Yeah, it DOES sound like "Main Offender". Soon as I listened to Horseshoes and Handgrenades it reminded me of The Hives. So that I love that song, it's very a new kind of sound for Green Day (even if it could have been from the Foxboro Hot Tubs though)
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 The opener to the third act, Horseshoes and Handgrenades seems to throw Billie for a loop. His comment:"Oh God. You read the lyrics to that one? I’m not sure about that song yet.” This is certainly a song with an attitude, but I love it! What are your thoughts about it?This one reeks of fury and rage -- probably Christian unleashed against the world. But, I will point out a big ambiguity: Is it Christian who is singing this or Gloria? Think back to iVLG! where the lyric goes "Gloria, iViva La Gloria!/You blast your name in graffiti on the walls"...then at the end of H&H we have "I'm not fucking around!/G-L-O-R-I-A".....so therefore I ask: Is this Christian going off the deep end? Is it Gloria? Or is it both of them?
greendayawtw Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 When I heard some of the songs on this album, I thought, oh crap they are just gonna get softer and more 'goody-goody' but when i heard this song, i knew there was still plenty of punk left in them
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 They might as well use the Hives instrumental in the background and put Billie Joe's voice over the top.Just took a listen myself. The similarity is in the main rhythm guitar riff and the overdriven lead vocals..altogether it's about as much of a style-borrowing as Green Day did with Mott The Hoople in the title track. I think it's kinda cool that they can take a musical style or borrow a few chords from an artist whose style they're looking to emulate (I mean, sh*t, they it with John Lennon, Queen, the Beatles, and several others on 21CB), take it in a different direction, punk it up a bit, and still manage to pull it off.
molly1620 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 While listening to the album, this song is somewhat a breath of fresh air. It shows how Green Day can still kick ass. Whenever I listen to this song an energy runs through me that makes me want to go be destructive. hahaI bet it was this song that made wal-mart ask for the edited version (and then Green Day was awesome and said f u walmart). haha
DeJennsitized Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Love this song, it's so angry. "SO DON'T YOU FUCK ME AROUND"
RogueBreakdown Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 "I'm gonna drink, fight and fuckAnd pushing my luckAll the time now So powerful."Favorite verse ever!!!it just oozes anger and rage and that is so HOT lol
NowhereBound Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I love the all of the lyrics, but the ones that I adore are:Demolition, self-destructionWhat to annihilateThis age-old contradictionDemolition, self-destructionWhat to annihilateThis old age.And i love the angry vibe to it...
