Sugaree Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 If I'm going to OD and wanted to listen to a song this would be it .
Rave Kate Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 This is My 2nd favorite song on 21st century Breakdown. I simple Love the lyrics "I need to find a place to hide, you never know what could be waiting outside" .... Its...So beautiful.. This ain't sweat but tears falling off my eyes cos I'm so happy!!
blank_space Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Yeah totally agree. The whole song just culminates beautifully when he sings that part... "Know Your Enemy..."This. I think Billie's received a bit of flak lately for being 'vague' with his lyrics or whatever, and people conclude that either he's trying but failing to be profound, or that he's actually a genius My first experience with the record, hearing this one line leading into the epic distorted guitars, 10 tracks after the lead single, I decided on the latter
Clayish Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I hope this is a single. This should NOT be a single at all, still, I love this song.
Moz Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I love this song, especially towards the end. It reminds me of Give Me Novacaine.
Tiffx Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 This should NOT be a single at all, still, I love this song.um, why?
Eirik Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 I really, really, really, reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally hope they start playing this live again...
spark in the night Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 the chorus right after the guitar solo.... shajsdhsajdshajds
Penguin Puffball Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I like how part of the song is kinda a flashback to Know Your Enemy, with the way it talks about the enemy.
jose armstrong Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I'm still torn between deciding my favorite of the album, but this is definitely a very good candidate, one of the stand-out tracks of the whole album, beautiful intro, the song is a slow build-up which climaxes in the Know Your enemy line, by that point, you just enjoy the rest of the ride. That is if they're doing it live, currently in the 10 track short version of 21CB RHS is not there. The only song Green Day has with Tremolo is BOBDawww shit, guitar affect naming fail
Kayfabe Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 awww shit, guitar affect naming failI'm certain that's not right, EJN has the tremolo picking effect in the solo bit. I play it all the time
amy_runs Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 this has to be a single.I think it will be. To me, it's BOBD-esque
Brian Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I loved this song after i heard "So what ails you, is what impales you." Unbelieveable!I think it will be. To me, it's BOBD-esqueI agree. Especially after the "Know Your Enemy" line.
Another Urchin Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 They apparently haven't even played it live, so it doesn't make it likely that it'll be a single.
Erica. Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 They apparently haven't even played it live, so it doesn't make it likely that it'll be a single. That makes me sad, I was really hoping to hear it at the show I'm going to.
jimmydiedtodayandsodidi Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 probably THE best song by Green Dayloved it since I first heard it.only thing I'm still oblivious about is "lord knows...."other than that best song from Green Day's repertoire"Lord knows" is just a saying to say that if everyone else doesn't know, at least God knows cause he knows everything that goes on in people's lives supposedly. And why Billie would say that I'm not exactly sure, but I've noticed he uses a lot of religious sayings, compared to pre-American Idiot. Maybe he's mocking why people say it, maybe he didn't even notice he was doing it, maybe he just wanted to use that expression because the syllables fit well. Who knows.I love this song; I think it's my most played song on the record. And the "know your enemy" is definetly my favourite part because not only was it this one continous, fluid song that suddenly came to a halt and changed the mood a little, but it ties it in all together. I love the message, that it's very-much possible to take pills for all of your problems so you don't have to face them, but to, in the end, have your personality devoured by them. And especially that line "You'd be surprised what I endure/What makes you feel so self-assure?" shakes people up, I think, because if you were to look at your life and the decisions you made, it may be hard to say why you made them and make you question your every move, which is what Billie's trying to say, to make you look at his perspective of being so unsure of his decisions all the time. And who would blame him, anyway, when the whole world's looking...
Modern Zero. Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I love absolutely EVERYTHING about this song. I'm so glad that Butch Vig forced Billie into finishing this Really though, I think it kind of forced Billie to put even more passion and time into it. You can really tell that he worked hard on this song. I REALLY love this verse: I need to find a place to hideYou never know what could beWaiting outsideThe accidents that you could findIt's like some kind of suicideAnd then I love how Billie says "You're a victim of your symptom" first and then says "I'm a victim of the system." And also I love how he sings "I'm elated, Medicated." and then "So what ails you is what impales you." The first lines are also just pure genius.
Johnny Higher Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 RESTLESS HEART SYNDROMEI think they found another cureFor broken hearts and feeling insecureYou'd be surprised what I endureWhat make you feel so self-assured?It lacks a "s" to make >>> What makes you feel so self-assured?
Kaddi. Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 RESTLESS HEART SYNDROMEI think they found another cureFor broken hearts and feeling insecureYou'd be surprised what I endureWhat make you feel so self-assured?It lacks a "s" to make >>> What makes you feel so self-assured?No, it doesn't. It's something musicians often do to make the song flow better. It's the same in JOS "In the land of make believe that don't believe in me".
Johnny Higher Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 No, it doesn't. It's something musicians often do to make the song flow better. It's the same in JOS "In the land of make believe that don't believe in me".Ah ok, I'm french so I don't know this kind of... thing
Kaddi. Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Ah ok, I'm french so I don't know this kind of... thing Never mind. I didn't know that either till my English teacher told me some time ago
Ila Reto Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 " so send me to the pharmacy, so i can lose my memory."
