My favourite song on the album. And it's epic fun to play it on the drums.

3rd favorite song on the album

The beginning and the end of the song tend to drag, but the middle is fucking brilliant.

this song is good without the first part.

goood song.

except the 'oooh-ay-ee' buts after the words 'refugees' near the end.

possibly the most annoying two seconds of any green day song ever.

I've never heared them.

Yeah, at like 3:06-3:17 in the song you can hear it in between the "like refugees, we're lost like refugees" lines.

I don't particularly like it, but I love the song so much that I don't care. I seriously adore the song.

I seriously hate Billie's voice at the beginning of this song. And I also hate the way he says refugees. Worst song on the album for me. It's just never really grown on me. I used to think Last Night on Earth was the worst, but that grew on me.

i agree with many others here, not my favorite, but very enjoyable. i prefer Last Night on Earth....playing right now..<3

The beginning is a little bit strange, because it's tooo sad, but when it comes to the first ,,Life before the lobotomy'' I love that..and the end is wonderful

Awesome song. Best part is after he says "like refugees" and theirs that little DOODALEE in the background

Another favourite song of mine! LOVE IT SO MUCH! Those lyrics are amazing and always give me the creeps.

I always loved the part "songs of yesterday now live in the underground" and how the mixed a bunch of songs from yesterday into this album! AMAZING!

And so many of my favourite song quotes in this one!

An epic piece of music and lyrics!

Well I'm not stoned I'm just fucked up

I got so high I can't stand up

I'm not cursed cause I've been blessed

I'm not in love cause I'm a mess!

I have always interpreted it as the collapse of the American dream. Our "freedom" isn't that great in today's society, because people like Christian and Gloria face the troubles that they do in the modern world (no pun intended). I think he uses the term ironically, because what we perceive as freedom is actually a living hell, the brutality of reality as he says, that keeps us from doing what we want to do. After the lobotomy, people can't think, they can't dream, they're stuck in the brutality of reality.

At least that's what I get out of the song on the numerous occasions I listen to it.

Oh! That's soooo I don't know what to say.. It's a really powerful line

I've always loved this song, but I've been falling in love with it a lot more recently. So brilliant. The lyrics just amaze me.

The first Time I heard this song, along with the rest of the album, I cried. start to finish.

When song of the century crackled out of my stereo clouds appeared out of nowhere on what was, a nice sunny day.

It got darker and darker, then Before the Lobotomy came through those speakers.

Once that opening chord hit me the sky turned purple, my neighbours backyard was one fire and everything was weird to say the least.

The song completly sucked me in, that opening verse brought on a new, fresh bought of tears and I just lay on my floor beside my window. watching the world collapse around me.

I'd put the motion I felt when the song came to a close into words, but the truth is that there is none.
