Mar Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 This song needs more pages. I fell in love the first time I heard it stream on that site before the cd came out. Still a favorite.Agreed. I love it more and more, each time I listen to it.
L0205H Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 When I first heard it, I was loving the slow, melodic guitar in the beginning. Then I got mad when it got fast. Then happy when it got slow again. Then it grew on me, and I ended up dreaming with this song in the background. I love listening to Green Day while falling sleep...Anyway- my favorite part is the second, "DREAMIIIIIN'..." all the way to the end. I can just imagine a swing set and someone singing it while on there. I don't know why.
jose armstrong Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I'm almost certain this is Billie's favorite song of the album...the song it's very good,,,but a little to repetitiveno its' not,,, the lyrics for the intro are the same as the lyrics for the coda, that makes it sound repetitive, plus the structure of the song and the "dreaming, singing, dying, laughter" make it sound even more repetitive, but is not, really.now, KYE is fucking balls repetitive
heartscollide Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 This is probably my favorite song from the album because1:It was stuck in my head from literally a week after first I heard it.2:'Life before the lobotomy...' is the single most beautiful moment ever.3:I am incredibly interested in lobotomies etc.
JohnnyNapalm Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 i actually hope its their next single. it fits pretty well. and its catchy! and they made a cool radio session video on youtube for it. you should check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehJcl1bg-lo
JakeThompson Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 The first thing that struck me about this song is the little lead riff from their cover of The Simpsons theme for The Simpsons Movie back in '07. Like they where giving us a hint of what was to come, without us even realizing it. Also, does anyone know what the hell Mike sings when Billie is sing the "Like refugees... lost like refugees" part? Every time I listen to it, it sounds like "tortellini" only being pronounced "tute-elliny". Other than that, this is a great track. One that I'll definitely be learning on guitar.
21st Century Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 This is another one of my favorites, although I do find the first and last (slow) parts rather dull after a while.Exactly what im thinking about the song....The part in the middle is great...but the reverse of the first part...okay.....almost as repetitive as KYE...although its FREAKIN GREAT live
JohnnyNapalm Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Exactly what im thinking about the song.......almost as repetitive as KYE...although its FREAKIN GREAT livetotally agree there! it is another really simple and repetative song... but its still really catchy and good lyrics like KYE
Maddy. Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 It takes getting used to, but once used to it, it's like: WOOAAAAAAAH this is fucking brilliant!
JohnnyNapalm Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 i think maybe the beginning riff is a tad boring
greendaytone Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I've had the line "Well Brutality is Reality" stuck in my head today. Great line, so true!
Trotsky Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Somehow this became one of my favorites and I hated it the first time I heard it.
GDM Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 I love this song and am thinking of getting the "dreaming... I was only dreaming... " as a tattoo on my wrists. I also didn't like it very much when I first heard, but about the third time, I completely fell in love with it. I love the constant cymbal toward the end. I think this will be a single, but it's slow like 21 Guns and I think they are going to a faster song for the next single. But I do think this will certainly be one of the singles from the album. The English live session to this song is pretty amazing.
Mar Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 The English live session to this song is pretty amazing. You don't happen to have a link for that, do you?
punkrockerlori Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 During the Vancouver concert they played this song. At the begining with the "dreaming, I was only dreaming" I started busrting out crying. It was such a beautiful song live!
Nymrawd Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 "the brutality of reality is the freedom that keeps me from .. dreaming"i love that line, but i don't get it, "the brutality of reality is the FREEDOM"?wouldn't it be more like a prison? why say freedom?someone explain!!
Mar Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 "the brutality of reality is the freedom that keeps me from .. dreaming"i love that line, but i don't get it, "the brutality of reality is the FREEDOM"?wouldn't it be more like a prison? why say freedom?someone explain!!I have always interpreted it as the collapse of the American dream. Our "freedom" isn't that great in today's society, because people like Christian and Gloria face the troubles that they do in the modern world (no pun intended). I think he uses the term ironically, because what we perceive as freedom is actually a living hell, the brutality of reality as he says, that keeps us from doing what we want to do. After the lobotomy, people can't think, they can't dream, they're stuck in the brutality of reality. At least that's what I get out of the song on the numerous occasions I listen to it.

dolce Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 "the brutality of reality is the freedom that keeps me from .. dreaming"i love that line, but i don't get it, "the brutality of reality is the FREEDOM"?wouldn't it be more like a prison? why say freedom?someone explain!!The whole story to the song is that before the lobotomy, he was dreaming, hearing his family singing, reminded of people dying, etc. Now that he's had a "lobotomy" (metaphorically, I think, for being overtaken by today's society), he no longer has to "deal with" those kinds of emotions. It's irony. He's kind of desensitized to the world because of the "lobotomy". Does that make sense? It does in my head, but I don't feel like I'm talking about it very well.Anyhoo, I love this song. I love how the beginning and end of the song go together, but the end has the guitars added to it. It's a breathtaking song. And hearing it live twice - I can confirm that it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
