Banan Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 This song made me realize how amazing Billie Joe's voice is! I've always loved his voice, but Viva La Gloria! is the most beautiful song i've ever heard! And I love the piano intro, it makes the song a combination of two things i like the most in music. The classical Green Day sound, and piano! I would love to see this song live! Too bad the tickets for their show in Oslo are sold out :/
Opezi Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 i love the song its really sweet and soft and when he does it live, he sing halleluah it melts my heart watch
~Toast~ Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I love the use of the Piano in this and then it picks up so wonderfully.
GreenDay41 Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 This is definitely my favourite song on the album. I LOVE the piano intro with the violin. It's so pretty, and they pull that sound off quite well, which is sort of surprising due to their usual sound. I love it. <3 Also, the melodic chorus & the way it goes from all quiet and pretty to punk rock is just so GD
SkippyNXC Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 k i need to know... anyone care to elaborate on this lyric:"you make your bed in salad days amongst the ruin"wtf is a salad day? n why is it amongst a ruin? it's been bugging me since i first read that lyric...
bjrules Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I can't get enough of the piano intro. I listen to it everyday. I don't really hear any similarities between this song and Stuck With Me though :/
Roxy. Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 k i need to know... anyone care to elaborate on this lyric:"you make your bed in salad days amongst the ruin"wtf is a salad day? n why is it amongst a ruin? it's been bugging me since i first read that lyric..."Salad days" is an idiomatic expression, referring to a youthful time, accompanied by the inexperience, enthusiasm, idealism, innocence, or indiscretion that one associates with a young person. More modern use, especially in the United States, refers to a person's heyday when somebody was at the peak of his/her abilities—not necessarily in that person's youth.thanks to Wikipedia hahathat lyric bugged me since first time I read it as well, but I think after this short explanation it's pretty clear.
Saint of all the sinners Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Maaaybee my favorite. Cant really decide if it's Viva la Gloria or Last of the American Girls...I love the break before"Hey Gloria, this is why we're on the edge. The fight of our lives' been drawn this undying love."You think "ROCK IT" and it goes on quite soft. Good work, nice lyrics. 5/5
pau72 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 the first time I heard it I didn´t like it.I hate when billie say ¡VIVA LA GLORIA!, it doesn´t sound well. But I tolerate it anyway...
Guest Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 my favorite on the album for sure, even though i dont understand half the lyrics ^_^
burnout_13 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 My absolute favorite song off the album.I wouldnt even mind if the entire song was like the beginning.I agree actually, that'd be well nice.
Comrade Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 Favorite song on the album, but I prefer it when he guitar kicks in.
drumstick Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Oh gosh, I love that song so much! The beginning is so beautiful and aperient and can easy make you cry (at least me )...and after that, comes this loud chorus that makes you jumping up and down which is awesome combination. I really don't know why they are not playing it on the shows.
Mar Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Absolutely love this song. I love the line "you found a home in all your scars and ammunition" since this line reminds me of the overall theme of 21 Guns. Gloria has her own scars from her experiences, and Christian seems to be a source of ammunition to her.
toaster_poodle Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 In a way this song is like the 21 Guns of Act 1. They're pretty much polar opposites as songs; Viva La Gloria is like the beginning of the journey/fight and hopefully looking ahead full of energy and passion, and then 21 Guns sort of represents when the fight and their cause finally caves in on them and they feel defeated and exhausted.
Guest Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 i think if i saw this song live i would cry. i love it so much.
Danny of Suburbia Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I love this song. So bummed that they haven't gotten around to playing it on the current tour.
The Disappearing Boy Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 there is someone at work called gloria. everytime someone says her name, i think of this song!
Angela. Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This is a pretty good song. My favorite lyric is: "Weather the storm and don't look back on last November...", because some stuff happened to me literally last November, and it's a nice reminder to not dwell on the past problems, and keep moving forward.
Bastard of 1967 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This is a pretty good song. My favorite lyric is: "Weather the storm and don't look back on last November...", because some stuff happened to me literally last November, and it's a nice reminder to not dwell on the past problems, and keep moving forward. I was wondering about that line. Might "last November" refer to election day 2008 when Bush and his cronies got the boot? One would think that a rabble-rouser like Gloria would rejoice in the upcoming change in leadership, yet instead the lyric refers to her looking back on this as if it were a problem rather than a cause for celebration. "...don't look back on last November/when your banners were burning down." This would make more sense if the song were actually written in late 2005 or early 2006, after Bush had just won re-election to his second term. So - does anyone know whether iVLG! was written specifically for 21CB after the conceptual thread for it had already started growing, or is it an older song that made the cut when Green Day was reviewing "already written" material with Butch for inclusion on the album?it has that epically awesome feeling that "Letterbomb" does. with the lyrics and the atmosphere of the song.Don't forget absolutely KILLER percussion from Tre. Some of his best rolls on the album are in this one and in Murder City -- and Butch has them arranged so perfectly.
*Whatsername-is a-ReBeL* Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 This is my absolute favorite song on the whole album! Its great even though it refers to something sad...but everytime i hear it, i gasp for air and and make this weird gurgleing sound and my mom always asks "what the hell is wrong with you!?"lol what does she know? nada but i do really love this song alot
JakeThompson Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 This was my first favorite from 21st Century Breakdown. After listening to the album over and over again on the MTV leak site, I had like 7 favorites, lol. But this was my first and for good reason. It does start off slow and I was thinking, alright not bad. Nice tender Green Day moment like "Wake Me Up When Sep. Ends" or "Macy's Day Parade"... but then it kicks in and it's like the classic punk rock love song. It's just an awesome song, and unless you listen to it back to back with "Letterbomb" or think about either song while listening to the other, they really don't connect. Yes they have pretty much the same chord progression, but that's what's awesome about Green Day. They can take a song or the skeleton of a song and craft something that's totally different, with a completely different feeling and finesse.
HoneyDo666 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I love this song! Billie's voice and Mike's "GLOOOORIAAAAA!" in the background are great! It's very meaningful too, like the rest of the album. The fact that they have the ambition and guts to slow it down just makes them more punk in my opinion!
Maddy. Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 The piano intro is beautiful, it's like the silence before the storm. I dared my sister to only concentrate on the drums. She was like: woah, tré is cool :D
