Know Your Enemy

The first few times I've heard it I thought it was really "meh" and too repetitive for its own good, but it's definitely grown on me. You can really appreciate this song a ton more once you understand its purpose.

It also helps that I don't get MTV and don't listen to the radio, so I only hear it when I want to...

I've actually been listening to KYE a fair bit lately.

Anybody agree that it's...awesome?

I wouldn't call it Green Day's best song ever, but it is quickly becoming one of my favourite songs from the new album. Sure it is quite repetitive, but there is something really exciting about it that gets me pumped up.

I totaly agree! I love KYA, actually. Loved it since I first heard it. That song's what I call punk rock.

I didn't like this song when I first heard it on the radio, and I was one of those people who wrongly assumed the rest of 21CB would be disappointing as a result. I quickly realized I was wrong! I think the song is so much better live; it's a bit repetitive in recorded form, but live, with a crowd, and with the band's energy and passion, it's so much better. I went from not liking it at all to liking it now.

I loved this song when I first heard it, it's dynamic, energetic, the lyrics are awesome, and I can't help but dance. I especially love the vocal harmony at the last bit where Mike keeps chanting "do you know the enemy/well gotta know the enemy" as Billie does the whole "Silence is the enemy" bit. Big love!

It's official, I've made up a dance to this song.

After he says "You gotta know your enemy", he say "Rahim."

It's quite clearly 'raw ham'.

Just like there are two sides to every coin. I think we can all see this song from two different perspectives.

First there's the "Let's trash this freakin track" point of view.

It's godamn repetitive! And that's the thing every so called punkster criticizes in modern mainstream music.

So yeah this is mainstream. The way the song repeats it's self makes me think about

MTV and allthat's wrong with it. (Tell me about it :whistling: )

It's Know your enemy here and know your enemy there.

No so called punk rocker or punk scenester whit half an inch of forhead would know what I'm talking about.

Oooooook that was A LOT of prejudice for just the one post.

Let's move on two the other side of the coin.

Sure it's repetitive. Know your enemy here, know your enemy there.

And sure it's mainstream. But for some reason we all went mad when it was on during that basketball game (Whose teams I don't even recall)

SO that has to be worth something. The chorus is called the hook sometimes. Bcause it hooks you to a song.

In this case Green Day manage to make this song the chorus of the whole album if you get my point.

If something has to be mainstream to reach the masses in order to lure the biggest number of people into hearing Green Day...SO BE IT!

It's a well known fact that (For the most part don't get me wrong plz!) the singles that get to be video clips or are broadcasted on the radio are the

songs that are most user friendly.

I've prolonged myself way two long. (THIS IS COOOL :D )

I sometimes skip it though. ahahahah

This is still my least favourite on the album. When I first heard it I loved it because it was the first song I had heard from GD in a long time, but when I bought the album and listened to the other songs, this quickly became my least favourite. I don't really understand why they made it the first single, but I'm sure they have their reasons. I still like the song, don't get me wrong, but in comparison to the other songs on this album, It's not one of my favourites.

I agree with you completely.

I mean, it's not like I hate the song or anything, I like it. And I actually like it a lot more now that I've seen/heard the song live. It's much better live, in my opinion. But it's still one of my least favorites on the album. I also don't really know why it was their first single, I mean, it is the most catchy/mainstream song on the album, which is probably one reason why, but I just don't think it was the right song to represent their whole entire album. Because I mean, the album is AMAZING and I just feel like when people who aren't fans, when they listen to this, they don't know that there are way better songs than it, and so they'll judge it quickly and say the album's crap, when it's really not.

On the other hand, though. Since it is quite catchy, there are a lot of teenagers that probably will like the song and think that it's good, which it is. But it's not the best on the album.

im hoping ill like it more when i see it live also. like it would be an amazing song if it wasnt so repetitive. if it had like 2 different solos or something, theres so much more they could have done with it, but they shose not to. i think this song was just made for the tv radio and media cuz for people that arent big green day fans and like all the mainstream stuff i guess its a pretty suitable song to catch them on. then they will go buy the album etc, and then those mainstream lovers will be disappointed with the good stuff on the album, but too bad for them.

This.

As long as you don't listen to it too often...it's always great to hear it....

but still...because i don't enjoy listening to it every day, it's definitely one of the weaker 21st CB songs

I could blast this song every day! In fact, I do! It makes me wanna air guitar and sing along!

The guitar solo is so good and this song is ridiculously catchy!

Me and my friend were at this restaurant thing for some architecture assignment and we heard this song coming out of the kitchens. It was major lol time and we were like singing and jumping around. But the song is the weakest on the album, I think. It's just so repetitive and the video sucks.

I've been addicted to this song lately, I don't care if it's repetitive, I'm over that. It's a really fun song to play.
