Mar Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I know what you mean. When I heard this live... I can't even find the words to describe how I felt, but I'll try. Hearing the guitar in the beginning made me feel like I couldn't breathe. I was realizing that I was seeing Green Day live for the first time, not just through a computer or TV screen anymore. After some screaming, I couldn't help but grin when Tre' kicked in with the drums. When Billie shouted our city's name, I grinned even more. And singing along to this song was amazing. It felt incredible to be surrounded by thousands of Green Day fans shouting the lyrics at the same time, and knowing that these people won't question why I love this band so much, and why they mean so much to me. It's an indescribable feeling to be crowded in an arena with people who share the same passion as you and understand you. Even if it was just for a couple of hours, it felt like... a close-knit family in a way. Minus the idiots pushing other people around on purpose, of course. I hope that sounded somewhat intelligent and understandable. I understood you, and I agree with your agreement of me! Especially about the close-knit family; I was in the second to last row of the venue, yet I still felt like Billie would kick my ass if I didn't scream and sing along, the atmosphere was wonderful. The song being at the beginning really helped to set that tone, in my opinion. I'm not in the class of '13 (oh my God, I'm old!) but I felt that I could relate to the song.
Devan Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 "I'm breaking my back 'til I'm better off dead, when enough ain't enough to survive." That line is epic, I wish they'd kept it...I like the lyrics better on the demo, but the albumversion feels...more full? I guess. But yes, beautiful song, one of the best.

Guest Shangri-La Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 Whooaa your right... I could hear it a lot in the very beginning of the song before the vocals came in.I don't know how i never noticed it before!I suggest looking for the non-strings version. I couldn't find it on youtube for some reason. The guitar is much harder and just the flow of the song is a lot more noticable.
JohnnyNapalm Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I love this song! This song is my ringtone. ahaha nice! its my ringtone and alarm yay (:
Isabel Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 That's exactly how I feel. This is going to sound really cliche and stupid, but I feel really alive when I listen to this song. I get excited to listen to this song. A lot of times, I listen to music as background music, but this song just makes me listen and absorb every word and every chord. Plus, when you hear it live, especially on this tour, when it's the beginning of the fun ride that is a Green Day show, it's more powerful, because it gets you in the mood to enjoy the show. God, I love this song!Exactly!!I have to stop whatever I'm doing when that song comes on and listen to it intently. If someone starts talking to me, I either pause it or tell them to shut up because I hate missing it! It's mad though because listening to it, I know it's going to be epic live. It just oozes this tremendous power which is so captivating and mind numbing. It's alot like American Idiot, so passionate and energetic. God I'll probably cry when I hear it in October, I'll be a blubbering mess
JohnnyNapalm Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 ahaha me too! i find when im listening to it at school, i sort of bank out and stop doing my work XD
punkrockerlori Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 This entire song is so well written. It's completely right about our world today and the problems that everyday people have to face. I played this song for my mom and she was blown away!

In concert, they hook you right away, and you're absorbing every word of the show, and 21CB is a great opener!
