Yeah its up there with their best album intro songs. The way it builds up after the intro is awesome. Can't wait to see it live.

I don't think so. If it's "From Mexico to the Berlin wall, homeland security could kill us all" it gets really clear. This whole "anti-fascist protective barrier" (=Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) thing and so on... the politicians affirm that they just want to protect their own country of bad influences and crime and so on, but of course it's more than that. So, for me the line made more sense the way it was in the demo version, it's easy to understand, but still very definitve.

Okaaay ... After thinking a while, I also could get along with that. But, still, I prefer the album version as there were these conspiracy stories about 9/11 and that US homeland security was may involved in the attacks. So, makes a little more sense to me.

Anyway, that's the good thing about lyrics and music ... you cant say whether anything is right or wrong. You can construe in any way you like :)

This song brings some hope into me. IDK but it just makes me feel as if billie was saving my life....

It brings me that feeling people get when they sing in church lol! :woot:

What can I say? this song totally rules. This final version is better than the demo, that's just my opinion.

The intro to the song is like the way you are waiting to jump with the drums :o lol

From beginning to end it's really catchy, specially they way billie sings to: My generation is Zero...

I adore that line too! :woot:

Definitely one of my favorite songs from the album! :D

It also reminds me "Homecoming"

all i want to know is: Why Class of 13???

That's when his son will graduate. He's just using that to represent that generation and take on their/our perspective.

OHH! i get it.. thank you, nobody else seemed to know

well, the reason why i asked was because my favorite part of this song is:

"we are the class of, the class of 13

born in the era of humility

we are the desperate and the declined

raised by the bastards of 1969 (it makes so much sense to me~!)

my name is no one

the long lost son

born on the 4th of july

raised in the era of hero's and cons

that left me for dead or alive"

oh yes <3 :D

i remember when i saw them perfom this... i was mezmerized :woot:

I can't wait to be standing there listening to this build up at the start of the Green Day show... such a great opener.

cool song. good opening to a great album :)

I wish I had the demo... :eyebrows:

This song was so powerful live, especially since it was their first song.

I have both but I way prefer the album version.

fave= "we are the desperate in the decline, raised by the bastards of 1969!!"

The best bit's the 3rd line of the first verse.

I think that this song means a lot more to me personally because I actually am the class of '13. Same with American Eulogy. I might have been happier, though, if they actually stuck with making an entire song called "Class of '13", rather than adding it to 21CB.

This is my favorite song off the entire album.

It's awesome!

when I heard it first and when I read the lyrics I thought "man, it was probably hard to write this song" but when he said that it took less then 5 minutes to write it I was really surprised...

I love the way he mention "the class of 13" :)

At 2.14 is when the song gets so good, I actually can't sing it anymore because the excitement of how much I love it, has exploded in my mind!

That's exactly how I feel. This is going to sound really cliche and stupid, but I feel really alive when I listen to this song. I get excited to listen to this song. A lot of times, I listen to music as background music, but this song just makes me listen and absorb every word and every chord. Plus, when you hear it live, especially on this tour, when it's the beginning of the fun ride that is a Green Day show, it's more powerful, because it gets you in the mood to enjoy the show. God, I love this song!

When did he say that? :o I know he said it about Know Your Enemy, as well...

A lot of times, I listen to music as background music, but this song just makes me listen and absorb every work and every chord. God, I love this song!

I know what you mean. When I heard this live... I can't even find the words to describe how I felt, but I'll try. Hearing the guitar in the beginning made me feel like I couldn't breathe. I was realizing that I was seeing Green Day live for the first time, not just through a computer or TV screen anymore. After some screaming, I couldn't help but grin when Tre' kicked in with the drums. When Billie shouted our city's name, I grinned even more. And singing along to this song was amazing. It felt incredible to be surrounded by thousands of Green Day fans shouting the lyrics at the same time, and knowing that these people won't question why I love this band so much, and why they mean so much to me. It's an indescribable feeling to be crowded in an arena with people who share the same passion as you and understand you. Even if it was just for a couple of hours, it felt like... a close-knit family in a way. Minus the idiots pushing other people around on purpose, of course. I hope that sounded somewhat intelligent and understandable.
