I think one of my favorite lines of all time is "My generation is zero. I never made it as a working class hero."

I liked the demo version with piano better, this final version feels a bit too polished for me, for some reason.

I'm listening to this song now, I still quite like it.

i think its a great song but my favorite part is when Billie Joe sings "my name is no one the long lost son..." and on from that. that part always gets stuck in my head (NOT A BAD THING!) and i just got it stuck in my head typing it out! hahaha

I liked the demo version better, although the final version is good, too. The lyrics are brilliant.

I love that line.

good song, great stuff right here.

I am one of the ones who like the demo lyrics better.

in fact, the whole demo track is better than the master.

I wish they put the song under 3 parts

1. 21st Century Breakdown

2. Class of 13

3. America

Pretty nice opening for the album, the lyrics "raised by the bastards of 1969" are great and funny! Musically is kind of a continuing from American Idiot album with a song (for ex) like Jesus of Suburbia... and at the end a QUEEN reference too.

NICE!

"Class of 13" would make an awesome song title, I agree. But I don´t think they should have put the song into 3 parts. Dunno why but I just don´t like the idea.

The demo version sounded a bit rougher and so overall I prefer the album version, but the demo did have its plus points. The piano went on too long so I'm glad to see it's been replaced (the two-chord intro being the start and finish of the album works really well), but the demo doesn't have the dodgy-sounding 'broken strum' (not sure how to describe it) after the second chorus, and I preferred some of the demo's lyrics - "From Mexico to the Berlin Wall" seemed to flow better (although I'm not sure I prefer it), and I keep forgetting that "I am a nation..." comes earlier than it did in the demo (although I like both versions of this section). My main gripe with the album version was the loss of 'Bleed, America, bleed' - thought that sounded fantastic and 'scream' just doesn't work as well.

Comparisons aside, I think it's a good song. Not as good as Jesus Of Suburbia but it sets the album off nicely and I don't think I'll ever skip it.

In the beginning, I prefered the demo version, but now I think the official one is much better. The middle is still my favorite part though... and I think they shouldn't have changed "From Mexico to the Berlin wall" into "Video games from the towers fall".

I don't think so. If it's "From Mexico to the Berlin wall, homeland security could kill us all" it gets really clear. This whole "anti-fascist protective barrier" (=Antifaschistischer Schutzwall) thing and so on... the politicians affirm that they just want to protect their own country of bad influences and crime and so on, but of course it's more than that. So, for me the line made more sense the way it was in the demo version, it's easy to understand, but still very definitve.

I fell in love with the piano bit in the demo when I first heard it and I was a bit pissed off when they changed it actually  but now I prefer the album version. I think that "from Mexico to the Berlin wall" flowed better, but "Videogames to the towers fall" is a bit more relevant for today. So I like the album version better now :D

Love the song.

And the special tribute to the Class of '13(:

I actually just heard the demo for the first time! It is quite different from the album version, the piano intro is cool but i prefer the guitar. You can hear the extra production on the album track too.

This song has grown alot on me. At first I didn't really think much of it but now it's one of the best tracks on the CD :)
