Isabel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 The final version is 10x better than the demo in my opinion..The Irish jig part(middle) gets me so pumped. You mean the drumming part? I seriously wouldn't have linked it to an irish dance
JGaunt Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I'm going to search the demo version.. I haven't got an opportunity to hear it yet.i love this music and the "My generation is zero. I never made it as a working class hero!"
nikkih Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I will never forgive anyone for taking out the piano from the demo. When I first heard that in February or whatever I cried. Maybe it was redundant but it still beats the 2 chords.
EmmOuGR Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I really love this song because of its alterations in the music..I mean there are 3 different melodies..Green Day are genius.. As far as the demo is concerned I found this, the only one I could find..I'm not sure if the lyrics are all corect but anyway..Just for the record, the actual song begins at 1.25 and finishes at 6.34..The other parts are not in it,the owner just put them..
Brian Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I have the demo on mp3 format...so i don't know how i could share it with the rest of you though...
Isabel Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Yeah I had the demo as well but then I deleted it accidentally
tapdancingowl Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hmm, I haven't heard the demo, so I couldn't compare.Personally, it's not one of my favorite songs on the album, but I do love the Queen solo. It makes me smile every time. Some people get pissed and say GD ripped Queen off, but I think it's a flattering homage.
OliDayyy Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I love this song. I remember when I first heard the demo, it gave me chills! I like the 3 parts, especially the second one! It's crazy. The final version is even better. In live, it's really awesome, with the intro...
Alan86 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I cant get use to the lyrics on the Irish part of the song. I always end up singing the ones from the demo. I espicially liked the last line in the demo version "well I am exempt from this tragedy and the 21st century fall"
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hmm, I haven't heard the demo, so I couldn't compare.Personally, it's not one of my favorite songs on the album, but I do love the Queen solo. It makes me smile every time. Some people get pissed and say GD ripped Queen off, but I think it's a flattering homage. It's a blend of styles - Queen (the final verses of Bohemian Rhapsody) and a few of the opening riffs from Mott The Hoople's "All the Young Dudes." Yeah, I love this part.
themole Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Final version rocks the demo. The demo just feels... flat. That's why the guys don't like it when that stuff leaks...Love this song, but somehow I tend to go to the others more...
Peace and Rainbows Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 This song always reminds me of webpage. when ever the irshes punky thing came on i would have the sudden eurge to destroy my computer. Over all it is a good song
Comrade Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Yeah this is one of the better tunes on the album. The album version pwns the demo, imo. I think this version works much better lyrically, and the added guitar at the end and overall better production just makes the finished version so much more worth the listen time.
Bastard of 1967 Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Yeah this is one of the better tunes on the album. The album version pwns the demo, imo. I think this version works much better lyrically, and the added guitar at the end and overall better production just makes the finished version so much more worth the listen time.To add to what you just said -- I do miss the piano intro from the demo (I thought that was quite beautiful, actually), but on the final album the D/A chord repetition is brought back again in both the intro and outro of See The Light, making a splendid set of bookends for everything in between.
greendayawtw Posted June 16, 2009 Posted June 16, 2009 Great song. reminds me of bohemian rhapsodyDiscuss anything related to this song here.Personally, I liked the demo more although the final version is not bad at all.Where Did You Get The Demo???
Another Urchin Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I did really, really like the demo version of it, especially the lyrics, I mean 80% of them are the same in the final studio version, like "From Mexico to the Berlin wall," was a really good line and sounds much better than the line they changed it to.I hadn't heard the demo version before and I tend to agree that most of the lyrics changed were for the worse. That being said, The Towers Fall makes more sense than The Berlin Wall in the context of the song. The song talks of the class of '13, which is the class just entering college next year. They probably weren't alive when the Berlin Wall fell. That being said, when looking at the lyrics for either the demo or the final version, I find them really good. Basically, this song to me sums up American society in the 21st century (much better than American Eulogy, imo). There's a certain chaos and confusion about the whole thing that rings true in this song.BTW, what's the status on the demo? Is it illegal to post here?
Spark of Insanity Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I love this song, especially when he sings "My name is no one, the long lost son, born on the 4th of Julyyyyyyyyyy"Same for me.This is one of my favorite songs off the album after a few of them. I just love how it is full of twist and turns and smooth transitions at that. That you wouldn't expect the break in the middle and they did it beautifully. I also love the very end, its one of my favorites within the song with the guitar. But I haven't heard the demo, so I couldn't do the comparison. And I found this song is amazing live.
Trotsky Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 What's ironic is I like the finished version lyrics more but like the demo's sound more.
DeJennsitized Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 When I first heard the demo, I wondered how they could possibly make it better; it sounded so polished, not really like a demo at all. But of course, they managed to do it. I don't really miss the piano, it made me impatient for the song to start. The two chords are better, IMO.The irish jig guitar sounds much more defined in the album version, and I love that. And the queen-esque solo at the end sounds much more grand. So yeah, album version > demo.
IzButt Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I am in love with both versions. The small guitar solo close to the end is great. This song reminded me of something that Queen would do.
bjrules Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I like the lyric changes in the main version better than demo but I like the demo's intro better that in the album version. But both are pretty damm awesome!
NowhereBound Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 I like the album version much more than the demo, but may I say that the demo is the best demo I have ever heard!
greendayfan597 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Amazing song! Fast paced and doesnt get lame. Oh, wait Green Day is never lame.
Isabel Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 After listening to the drums, I'm trying to determine if this alleged irish part sounds more like a jig than a hornpipe, and vice versa. They both have the same beat.
