-Billiejoezee- Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 they played this song well at the VMA's.so well katy perry was moshing to it.
Nymrawd Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 "and we will see how godless a nation we have become"did Billie Joe make this quote up or is it from somewhere else? and does anyone know who the person is at the beginning of the song who says it?
Chris14 Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 This is easily my fav on the album, the pace of it always gets me going.Has to be a single in my mind, and can't wait to hear it live!
-Billiejoezee- Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 it is NOT my fave. its okay but i like others.
MitchBob Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 This song really introduces what, IMO is the better half of the album. And fuck it introduces it with a bang. It gets me pumped. If it isn't a single worldwide, they aint doing this album justice.
mallorymaloney Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 How come, when the lyrics are written down/typed out, "river of a shadow of doubt" always has quotation marks around it?I get the feeling it's a reference I'm not quite ... Getting!
Mar Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 How come, when the lyrics are written down/typed out, "river of a shadow of doubt" always has quotation marks around it?I get the feeling it's a reference I'm not quite ... Getting!I see what you mean! If it's a reference to something, I must be missing it too!
Ally Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 a river running through something that no doubt remains about. so if something is running through something that no one doubts anymore doesn't that mean its running through nothing. I might be thinking about this wrong, but if they throw there crutches into the river of shadow of doubt then they are effectively throwing them into nothing. so maybe is quoted because he is trying to say that theres nothing to doubt, maybe a bit of sarcasm. i dunno, i dunno if that makes sense actually.
Welshy Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 I thought it was quoted because its a quote from the Bible, or a reference to something in the Bible. Someone read a Bible and find out.edit: This guy says it isn't a Bible quote: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...20122837AAUhA40
thesweetchild Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 I think this is the greatest song from 21st century breakdown
bjrules Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Best song on the album! I love the guitars in this song. The lyrics are also great.
kazoo Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 this is defenetly one of the best songs on the album. one of my favorites as well its soo strong and the message is so powerful. the song is moving for me
Maddy. Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 "and we will see how godless a nation we have become"did Billie Joe make this quote up or is it from somewhere else? and does anyone know who the person is at the beginning of the song who says it?It's Billie doing his Charlie Hanson's "Son of the son of God" voice2:53Recording LF!DF!
Heather! Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 ^ John Roecker with facial hair whoa Anyway that's neat, thanks for posting the link! It sounds more like BJ (after seeing that video) than I originally thought it did.I LOVE the "don't test me, second guess me, protest me, you will disappear" part. Especially how he did it at the VMAs!
Mar Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 It's Billie doing his Charlie Hanson's "Son of the son of God" voice2:53Recording LF!DF!Haha, it is that voice!
Maddy. Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 ^^You're welcome. The VMA performance was brilliant. It makes me even more excited for the single. It's available for pre-order on Ebay and Amazon.
BuriedInAHole Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I think that EJN as a single will be more successful than 21st CB..I mean it sounds like a party, but it has an important message in it..
stxrlesseyes Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Perhaps I am late on this or it's already been answered; however I do not feel like reading 6 pages.Did they get the song title from Juno?I was watching the movie today and her step mom was like, "Out in East Jesus Nowhere." Coincidence or not?

Coincidence or not?Yes, it was originally titled "March of the Dogs" but Billie saw the movie and changed the title
Maddy. Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 East Jesus Nowhere sound better than March of the Dogs.
greendaygal89 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 i have an unhealthy addiction with this song atm lol LOVE IT!!!
Mar Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 East Jesus Nowhere sound better than March of the Dogs.Yeah, I think that title would have sounded a bit anti-religious people (not just fundamentalists), which is not what the song is about, y'know? I don't know, I just think East Jesus Nowhere is a better fit for the song, even if it's not technically part of the lyrics.
BraedonHorbacio Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Not my favorite on the album but its not a BAD song or anything. Im sure in a while it will be my favorite tho. That always happens. That organ in the song really adds to it
