Am I the only one who really doesn't like this song? :(

Far too much like The Hives, completley ruins it for me, only listend to it once and can't listen to it again, it's just not Green Day to me...good job the rest of the album stacks up well. :P

I know sign language - Australian (Auslan) and American (ASL). I've often that that Billie's just dying to use sign language. Look at how many gestures he makes where he's trying to communicate with his hands. The "subliminal mind fuck, America" is a perfect example. I think Billie has this incredibly strong drive to fully communicate, and he wants to do it in whatever means he can.

He's signing with his hands? Surely it would be more effective to use semaphore in an arena environment.

Unless he has close-ups of his hands on the big screens, which I'm sure would really incite some of the deaf people at the show.

lmfao.

Actually, lots of deaf people really enjoy loud rock music. My daughter went to the Little Rock Foxboro show with me and it is one of her favorite memories. I remember when the first band started, she and her boyfriend just looked at each other with these incredulous smiles like - wow this is for us!!! I've also noticed that Green Day has interpreters at some of their shows (you can catch glimpses of them on some of the youtube videos). So, I imagine more deaf people go to their shows than we would expect. I think it's sweet if Billie is trying to do something special just for them (not that I know whether that's actually his motive :)).

i got all confused looking at that translation, then i remembered american sign language is different to the british sign language i know :) I'm such a spazz when i've just woken up

It can be so confusing! American Sign Language is based on the French, and Australian is based on the British. I've been back in America for over 15 years, and I still have mental blocks on some signs (not the alphabet, though, once you start using one daily, it gets stuck in your head pretty easily).

So where did you hear this?

my one year old niece is learning sign language. she hasnt even started talking yet.

I'll be interested to hear if she skips the terrible twos! My son never went through that phase, and I think it's because he could already communicate (my daughter's the oldest, so we were already signing when he was born).

she is an absolute dream of a baby so far! :D no hissy fits or anything like that. only cries when she falls over and then only for a few seconds as my bro and sis-in-law dont make a big deal of it. I was gob smacked when I saw her signing for the first time as I had no idea she was learning it.

I just need to wait until she is old enough to chose her own clothes... then I can persuade her to stop wearing flowery frocks and pink things! lol

 Will Auntie Netty be buying her her first pair of black jeans, a striped t-shirt, black leather jacket, and a pair of baby-size chucks?

And, to stay on topic - sign language is an amazing way to communicate. My son and I were using it at Webster Hall. When they started playing some of their older songs that he didn't recognize at first (because he's not quite the rabid fan I am) I was signing the titles for him. No way could we hear each other (not to mention that my voice was GONE by that point). But we were able to communicate completely.

I remember reading something Billie said about the first time they toured Europe and how they had to find ways of communicating their performances besides just the words. I think he's developed some kind of fascination with that. Maybe I just notice it more because I'm so attuned to signing, but he uses not just his hands, but facial expression and body language more than most rock performers.

lol why dont you try to sing and do sign language at the same time? it's pretty hard!

plus, its kinda corney, so that's a no-go in my book.

I love that song, so anything entertaining and interesting to go along with the songs epicness is fine with me :)

I've actually done that quite often. It's hard, but it's just like anything else - practice helps a lot. It's only corny if it's not well done, so it just depends on the person situation. If Billie wants to do it, that's fine with me. I trust his instincts.

I odnt care about the sign language although it pretty cool :) i just wanna hear the song live :D

Me too!! I love that song!!!

I saw you you and Daniel signing during the Webster Hall show. I was going to ask why you know to sign...but it seemed like too much of a personal question. Although after that night, we had become "so close", maybe you wouldn't have minded.

I agree with this. When I first read the thread, I was like, awesome!!! However, I'm not sure all those deaf people will see it though unless it's blown up.

Oh no, I never mind talking about it. And since that time we pulled your pants down, I think you're allowed to ask me anything .

I'm wearing those same pants today. I showed my husband how far down they were. He was cracking up. I'm just glad I had my jacked tied around my waist. Really, it was so crowded, no one was going to see anything anyway. :D

And if they did, they'd probably just think you were getting into the spirit of the evening.

I agree. Sometimes he looks like he's one step away from sign language already, I love all the little gestures he does. It would be cool to see him doing this . And you can check if he's doing it right!

AND UM

WHY DOES THIS MATTER

lol fail.

I dunno, as long as he performs it great I don't quite care if he does sign language XD

Then again I think I'd be amused with anything he did on stage. Even if Billie randomely started riverdancing for no apparent reason while playing Last Night On Earth I'd be like, "lol nice, well this is new."
