That was so beautiful and thought-provoking. You're an amazing writer, I'm already in love with the album but reading that felt like falling in love with it all over again! Almost as soon as I started reading you had me itching to listen to it and I was compelled to sit and listen to it from start to finish as soon as I'd finished

Angeline would you object to me posting this on the IC if it hasn't already been done so?

Angeline,

Ever since I read your editorial I'm inspired to wrestle a little more deeply with some of the "harder" tracks on the album, the ones where the emotional meaning and power behind the lyrics are less obvious on their face. One of these for me, surprisingly, is the main part of iViva La Gloria!, particularly the lyric: "you blast your name in graffiti on the walls". Then after a little searching, I found these:

berlin_wall.jpg

Berlin%20Wall%20Freedom.jpg

So where am I going with this? :) In your editorial, I completely agree with your interpretation:

Gloria's light and Christian's inferno are the same flame, her idealism and his nihilism are expressions of a power that comes from the same place. Piss off an angel, and that angel becomes a winged fury.

From this, I find another possible interpretation of the lyrics and the characters: Gloria is not just light, Gloria is freedom it/herself, and that freedom has been blasted "in graffiti on the walls" (literally, the Berlin Wall), from time to time throughout history. That freedom, that life-force energy, has also been co-opted and misused throughout history by heroes, cons, and charlatans. We find ourselves today having gone from the era of humility to the era of arrogance, and after so many wasted years of the deaf-mute misleading the choir, the lesson we can draw from this is: Gloria's freedom misused (or in your words, what happens when you "piss off an angel") is that this angel becomes Christian's inferno. The two characters are, as you observe, "inseparable" and "opposite points of a single compass" -- perhaps in yet another way that I don't think we've described in quite this way yet.

Thanks again for the inspiration!
