4whatsername8 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I think the bridge part of ¿Viva La Gloria? Little Girl sounds a lot like the chorus of Hey Jude by the Beatles ... only it's a bit faster. Or at least that's what it reminds me of whenever I hear it. Then of course, the one part of American Eulogy sounds exactly like Deadbeat Holiday.
Jon Benjamin Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Peacemaker sounds like Misery (add this please?)
henryb8249 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Many people seem to be missing the point of this thread for whatever reason, but I just want to say thanks for posting & keeping up with it Lauren! I know that when I first started listening to 21CB I caught ‘21 Guns solo – Full House’ & ‘Static Age - Church on Sunday’ right away, and knew there were more which I couldn’t quite pinpoint, though thanks to this I think a little less when listening to some of the songs The drum intro to Know Your Enemy is identical to I Am The Resurrection by the Stone Roses.the intro drum beat of Know Your Enemy sounds like the drum beat of the NIN song, 1,000,000.The beginning drums of 'KYE' sound like the drums from 'Rebel Girl' by Bikini Kill and 'You Better Pray' by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. This intro drum beat has been done a million times before and will be done a million more times. If you take drum lessons you should be practicing something like this pretty early on, somewhat generic rock beat. Some of the songs mentioned above are obvious ones to compare it to, and if we're looking just at the beat, then off the top of my head the intro to Stacked Actors (Foo Fighters) uses it too, but it's behind guitars. On the topic of Green Day, Foo Fighters, and drum intros, does this remind anyone of anything?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7smKR2Jj1DIAnd I swear the chorus to the Static Age is just his lyrics put to another song"I can't see a thing in the video / I can't hear a thing on the radio"That has been stolen form something, I just can't put my finger on it.I think the exact same thing every time I listen to it! Calling Christian and Gloria music detectives? The part in Viva La Gloria when Billie sings "Say a prayer and light a fire, we're gonna start a war. Your slogan's a gun for hire, it's what we've waited for"sounds like the part in Worry Rock when Billie sings "A knocked-out dragged-out fight, fat lips and open wounds. Another wasted night and no one will take the fall."...<3 worry rock
Atcs64 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Every time I listen to Mass Hysteria or Deadbeat Holiday I think of the other one haha. Everyone notices that similarity that I know. For some reason I also can't help but think of "Hey Gloria are you standing close to the edge" in the chorus of Deadbeat Holiday. I don't think it's super similar or anything it just always comes to mind. I have to go get ready for work so instead of finding something new to post that nobody mentioned I'll just leave my comment like it is.
Paper_Lantern Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I think a part of static age sounds like favorite son and/or life during war time.those songs sound the same though so i dunno maybe its just meYes, to Life During Wartime. The opening guitar riff of Static Age is similar to the chords in the beginning of Life During Wartime. I realized this when i was playing Static Age and I accidentally transitioned into playing Life During Wartime (no chords) without even realizing it.
TheMinority Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Peacemaker sounds like Misery (add this please?)agreed! I have another one... one of their last songs of the album sounds like the Hives
Danny of Suburbia Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Nothing stuck out to me other than there are multiple songs with similar titles -21 Guns and 21st Century BreakdownBoth versions of Viva La GloriaLast Night on Earth and Last of the American Girls
green_day_greece Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 maybe you're right but the first thing i thought when i first listened to their new album (21st cb) was that overall it was a very good work that had nothing to do with the previous ones! Especially American Idiot! And this is very important! When an album is so successful everyone expects even more on the next... And it's so difficult! In my opinion, American idiot is the best album ever... But we can't compare it with 21st cb because they are soooo different!
Billie'sgirl Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Yes about mass histeria...it does sound like deadbeat holiday...i noticed that the first time i heard it.and maybe its just me but static age...has a kind of sound like to much to soon...i dunno??
JakeThompson Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I don't hear it...Really?! That was the first thing I noticed in this song when I listened to the album on MTV's leak site a week before it came out... Here, I put together a clip with both BTL and The Simpsons Theme...In BTL it's a little slower and at a lower key, but it's the EXACT riff. You can here it at about 3:20 into BTL and just under the one minute mark in The Simpsons theme.
HelenGD Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 I've noticed today that the beginning of Christian's Inferno reminds me the beginning of MJ's song "Black or white" The scene when kid's dad appears to be in the jungle O.O

Nzap Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 Put here again my thoughts that aren't much discussed here:Christian's inferno - 86 : Similar drums in beginningBefore the Lobotomy- Rush: Red Barchetta (also Far Cry) The riff between the lines in the middle part.Horseshoes and Handgrenades- Prosthetic Head : Beginning of HSHG and Prosthetic head at 2.15 sounds very similar.
Lauren Posted August 15, 2009 Author Posted August 15, 2009 i heard similarities with PH and All The Time, and I also thought that H&H and All The Time were similar, so I guess you're right when you say H&H and PH are similar.
fashionvictim86 Posted August 15, 2009 Posted August 15, 2009 There's a Hives song that sounds exactly like Horseshoes and Hand Gernades.
Nzap Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 There's a Hives song that sounds exactly like Horseshoes and Hand Gernades.I'd say exactly is not the correct word at all. It sounds similar in some spots but it still has it's unique sound, and most important, is much better
emmaILGD! Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 I've noticed today that the beginning of Christian's Inferno reminds me the beginning of MJ's song "Black or white" The scene when kid's dad appears to be in the jungle O.OOh yeah! I know exactly what you mean.
Hermione Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'd say exactly is not the correct word at all. It sounds similar in some spots but it still has it's unique sound, and most important, is much better :wink:Yes indeed! Stop Drop And Roll always reminds me of the Hives song way more than H and H does anyway.
dolce Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm not a Bowie listener, but I've heard many a journalist compare 21 Guns to All the Young Dudes. And they do sound similar.
Hermione Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 LOL the other day I remembered that ages before the album came out, there was an article that said 21 Guns sounds like that song from back in the 80s, 'Africa' by Toto. I can actually see what they were getting at, the melody of the 21 Guns verses is similar to the melody of the Africa chorus. But it's a REALLY vague and abstract similarily, I can't believe they even thought of it let alone put it in the article . It's making me think of that song every time I listen to it!
Eirik Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 ^As far as I recall, the reviewer said it reminded him of it, and that it wasn't necesserally to be taken negatively.
Hermione Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 ^As far as I recall, the reviewer said it reminded him of it, and that it wasn't necesserally to be taken negatively. I don't take it negatively either! That cheesy song just amuses me , so now 21 Guns amuses me too.
Welshy Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I think Christians Inferno sounds a bit like Ha Ha You're Dead
CrimsonSheep Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Well if we are going to nitpick, I guess the chorus of !Viva La Gloria! has the same melody as Letterbomb....¡Viva! has a chorus? Lol.21st Century Breakdown: Similar to Jesus of Suburbia's "City of the damned" and to Longview's drummingWell, Tre did solo the drum intro to Longview in the middle... Heh.Definitely agree with Mass Hysteria sounding like Deadbeat Holiday and Static Age sounding like Church on Sunday.Song of the Century kind of reminded me of AFI's Miseria Cantare and Prelude 12/21, probably because of the track placement and brevity of all three. None of the other GD albums did that, so I'm wondering if maybe there's some connection or if I'm just trying to hard to match things up that don't go together, heh. Before the Lobotomy and Murder City reminded me of each other, but that might just be similar subject matter.Last of the American Girls makes me think of She's a Rebel, but again probably similar(ish) subject matter. And a lot of it makes me think of the whole 2012 business. (Which songs do are probably obvious.) I'm wondering if that was intentional or not.
