burnout_13 Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 The drum intro to Know Your Enemy is identical to I Am The Resurrection by the Stone Roses. I'm sure I posted this in another thread though, but never received any acknowledgement for my brilliant observation haha.
wwnflat_punk Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 OMG!!! no!! i feel the same way! idk HOW! it's just like right before the chorus... i always feel like it's gonna be beverly hills for like 2 seconds, but then it goes right back to green day I guess it's cause of the similar melody, but I'm glad I don't think of it like that anymore. Also, the beginning drums in "The Static Age" remind me of the start of "Armatage Shanks", but a slower version.Could people stop bitching? If my song writing & history class has taught me something is that ALL MODERN MUSIC HAS BEEN WRITTEN BEFORE. There's nothing TRULY new. It's impossible in all forms of art, etc... all we do is take bits and pieces of other people's work, and slap it into our own. That's a fact. So just sit back and enjoy Green Day's version. I don't think anyone is complaining, this is just something we noticed and want to talk about. But I agree with you that we will always hear previous Green Day in new albums because that's who they are and what their sound is.
Towers Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think Horseshoes and Handgrenades could easily be a The Offspring song with a different lyricist
Waffles Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I agree with the ones that are similar to See The Light
Another Urchin Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I know it's already been mentioned, but my brother also felt that Static Age's chorus sounded like Church on Sunday's chorus. I think there's a general similarity, but not all that great.I think that's true for a lot of them. There's a general similarity in mood, but the actual chord progression and strumming is different (or, in some cases, one of them will be the same, but not both).I definitely noticed iViva la Gloria!'s similarity to Letterbomb, but that's not a shocking revelation. I love both songs anyway. I think it's strumming pattern, but not the same chords, but I'm not sure.
kidney Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 the intro drum beat of Know Your Enemy sounds like the drum beat of the NIN song, 1,000,000.
bjrules Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 The chorus to Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) reminds me of Blood Sex and Booze's chorus for some reason.
Lauren Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 The chorus to Viva La Gloria? (Little Girl) reminds me of Blood Sex and Booze's chorus for some reason.yeah, it's got that "Warning" kind of feel to it -- it reminds me of Misery
mallorymaloney Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on my blog when the album first came out. I ... Found it über exciting when I noticed that ¿Viva La Gloria? ((Little Girl)) sounds an awful lot like Misery, a track from Green Day's album Warning ... Or when I noticed that Murder City sounds a lot like several different My Chemical Romance songs ... Or the fact that Restless Heart Syndrome sounds like something Queen would write near the beginning, and then like Papa Roach's song Hollywood Whore closer to the end ... Or that American Eulogy's second half, Modern World, ((When Mike Dirnt starts singing,)) Sounds a little bit like the Descendents' song 'Merican ... Or that Horseshoes And Handgrenades sounds a little like The Foxboro Hot Tubs's Stop Drop And Roll!
Dookie93 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 My mom says that Peacemaker sounds like The Beatles.
Lauren Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 My mom says that Peacemaker sounds like The Beatles.....the Beatles were nothing like that! (I should know, they're my favorite band after Green Day)
Hermione Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I know it's already been mentioned, but my brother also felt that Static Age's chorus sounded like Church on Sunday's chorus. I think there's a general similarity, but not all that great.I agree, and I love the fact that it reminds me of Church On Sunday! My sister and I always used to say it would be so cool if Church On Sunday had a key change at the end on the last chorus and we wished it did. And now here comes a song that reminds me of it, with a fabulous key change at the end! The wish came true
Dookie93 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 ....the Beatles were nothing like that! (I should know, they're my favorite band after Green Day)Haha well she says it at least reminds her of The Beatles
failure00 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I saw no mention on how Murder City sounds like a mixture of Favorite Son and Too Much Too Soon.
blader0314 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 I think the intro to "Know Your Enemy" sounds similar to the intro to "1,000,000" by Nine Inch Nails.
sara_gd Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 lights out sounds to me a little bit like no pride. and the part that mike sings in american eulogy reminds me of minority
thisisAB Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 "hey hey it's the static age" sorta sounds like the "welcome to a new kind of tension" part from American Idiot
.Militza. Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 My mom says that Peacemaker sounds like The Beatles. My dad said that also. That the beginning is similar like the one from the Beatles ( can't really remember song )
Lauren Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 doesn't the bridge of static age sound like I Fought The Law?
Lauren Posted June 11, 2009 Author Posted June 11, 2009 OMG LISTEN TO THIS!!!!http://www.megaupload.com/?d=G32GSCZRI compared both Static Age and I Fought The Law.
_all_is_well_ Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Thats what it was, see the light sounded so familiar it was bugging me, everytime i listen to it im like ive heard that...
minorityxdisturbed Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Weel it is normal they have done a lot of music and the have influences from a lot of bands so it's normal, that happen with many band, they sound like their old stuff and other band's stuff becouse in music everything is inveted, everything is a progression of what other's have done some years ago, but I still liking the whole album
Lauren Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Don't get me wrong. I LOVE it.It's not just the ones that "sound familiar"it's the ones that sound EXACTLY the same that bug me.
dudley dawson Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 the beginning of 21 Guns sounds exactly like the beginning of Holiday, only slowed down.
Another Urchin Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 OK, i was listening to The Network and found that Billie Joe sings Christian's Inferno just like he does Transistors Gone Wild
