I've always assumed it's about both Gloria and Christian.

The way I see it, every song after ¿Viva La Gloria?(Little Girl) has no set feeling of belonging to just one of the characters.

I think the story is only a quarter of the whole thing, most writing is personal and that just bleeds into the story.

i voted for both Christian and Gloria.but it might be a personal song too

I think it's Gloria. But it may have personal elements as well.

Didn't Billie say it was about Gloria....? I can't remember. >.< Oh well, I think it's about Gloria.

I think it refers to gloria because that art of the album sounds more like the story of Gloria.

It's both. "You're a victim of your symptom/You are your own worst enemy". I'm a victim of your symptom/I am my own worst enemy. Know your enemy. It's sung both of their perspectives because they both have a drug problem and they're their own worst enemy.

I voted both Christian and Gloria because they're both victims of their own symptoms/the system. (you are your own worst enemy, know your enemy)

i agree with that

Personally, I think it's all of the above. I think Billie definitely has a personal connection to the song, no doubt. And obviously it has a connection to Gloria, given Little Girl right before it and the melody of Restless Heart Syndrome being played on piano at the beginning of Little Girl, as well as the same melody with the "ooooo's" at the end of Little Girl. And given Christian's story I'm sure he has some connection as well. I don't think it's personally towards or about a certain character or person.

Seems personal to me.

I try skipping this song... makes me incredibly depressed.

I voted Gloria, as i think it is more about the character, but i also think that part of it is personal.

I think Gloria

I'm going with Gloria because of the album art. I also voted personal since every song has some meaning to him.

So I kinda started this in the new chat, so i'm posting it as a thread. What do you think? I'm kinda lost between Christian and Gloria.

Since I first heard it, I've thought this song refers to Christian for a couple of reasons.

I don't remember Billie ever singing a song about a female character from the first person (i.e. he always says "she ..." not "I ..."). However, he often sings in first person if the main character of the song is a guy (e.g. St. Jimmy). Since he's saying "I'm elated ... " and uses first person throughout the song, I think it must be about Christian.

Little Girl is about Gloria and her drug problem, and I think this following song is about Christian and his demons/drug problem. It's a different feeling entirely to Gloria's song that precedes it, and there wouldn't be a need for two songs in a row about Gloria's drug problem.

There is another option, though. It could be a generic song that's not about either character. Billie just said "It’s about pharmaceuticals. A lot of people become junkies if they get the right prescription."

I do think there's a lot of personal in this song, but that's the case with all of Billie's music. So I don't think he's trying to make it about himself personally, just that it has lots of personal points of reference.

Those are my thoughts, though of course, I could be entirely off track.

I think it's both, now, because he's talking about two people.

I think it's about Christian. In Little Girl Christian finds out about Gloria's drug problem & that makes him think about his own problems, too. Both of them are mentioned, but it's Christian's POV.

i think its all 3
