gdpunk2 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I know he did for 21st Century Breakdown, In and interview he said he has done things with his voice that he has never done before, so he might of had recent lessons to help with these new singing features
AnnaMon07 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 How much can one grasp at the age of 4? xDI started having piano lessons and had ballet, tap and modern dancing lessons at 4 xo
virysya Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I don't know but if some people say that they heard in some interviews that hi did vocal lessons than he did.
dallasthemenace Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 he never wanted to sing in the first place...but according to billie, "mike just told me i didnt have a choice...he was gonna kick my ass *laughter*.."i remember that from an interview from long ago
Hermione Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I think over the last few years he's really improved his vocals, realised what they mean to him and so he's probably taken steps to make sure he keeps it in good shape. But I would say other than taking advice most of it is self taught, or just comes from experience.Yeah I agree, he was born with talent but he's definitely worked on it and developed his voice over the years like a good musician would. I think it was in that piece about Bono he wrote he talked about that, he said he's constantly working to improve and develop his voice, watching other singers and trying out different techniques. I am pleased with the results!
Nele Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Yep, he took piano and singing lessons when he was 4/5. His teacher recognized his tallent and they record "Look For Love".
Sharmellow Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Yeah, I'm pretty sure he had some sort of lessons/training. His vocal chords sound different if you compared it from 1039/Smoothed-Kerplunk-Dookie to American Idiot and 21CB. Also, I used to be a singer in a band and it takes a lot out of you to sing for an hour. Imagine singing for 2+ hours, non-stop.
Ila Reto Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 when he was young, he took singing lessons with this older couple and a few other students. his first "single", 'Look for Love' was recorded then and the background singers were other kids. that's basically how it kick-started.but i dont know after that.
Anko Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 In my opinion he took lessons. I don't think one's voice can be that good if it's self taught.I heard Amy Lee of Evanescence is a self taught vocalist and she's fucking AMAZING!
Sharmellow Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I heard Amy Lee of Evanescence is a self taught vocalist and she's fucking AMAZING!Really? She's self taught? That's amazing.
Fulano Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I think that he had to learn singing practices to 21st century breakdown.
Anko Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Really? She's self taught? That's amazing. I know! She's also somewhat self taught on the piano, I guess her grandma taught her because her family didn't have the money for classes.
Isabel Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I don't think his vocal range has expanded THAT much in the last few years
Lauren Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Found this on the Random Fact page on the GDA itself:Billie Joe started singing when he was 5 and he got singing lessons from the music school Fiat in Pinole in California, and also learned how to play the piano at Fiat.
amy_runs Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Billie was born singing. Actually, he was singing in the womb
Isabel Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Billie Joe started singing when he was 5 and he got singing lessons from the music school Fiat in Pinole in California, and also learned how to play the piano at Fiat. The people who ran that music school were responsible for Look For Love, yes?
Ila Reto Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I don't think his vocal range has expanded THAT much in the last few years seriously? his voice is in a whole new range now, it's completely expanded in both lower and higher directions, not to mention it's grown even more powerful.
Lauren Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 seriously? his voice is in a whole new range now, it's completely expanded in both lower and higher directions, not to mention it's grown even more powerful.Yes, I've noticed. It's not that he wasn't singing really high before, (I mean have you listened to 1,039/SOSH?!) it's just that it didn't sound as good when he went that high before. Also his low notes are a LOT stronger.
Greenday_Aussie Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I cant hear a difference in his voice from AI to Breakdown, I bet hes always been able to hit faulsetto, but hes defiantly had training somewhere, which is perfect fine, it doesnt make him any less of a singer (as far as fuck away from it!)
iHasan Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I don't think so,Billie developed the ability himselfhe mentioned once in an interview he started taking them but quit because he didnt like the guy ( this was way BEFORE AI) but he may have had lessons since then , im not surprised if he did.Yeah!,he said he wanted to be a guitarist only in the band but there was no good vocalist in the band so he had to do it
Cerry Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 seriously? his voice is in a whole new range now, it's completely expanded in both lower and higher directions, not to mention it's grown even more powerful. Some of that's natural development though - your singing voice is one of the few parts of your body that actually improves with age. If you look at lots of opera companies and stuff, they very rarely take people on board before their late 20s, because your voice is still developing, and settling into its range and stuff until that point. Lots of bands who have been around forever find that they have to play their older stuff in a different key now, because their singer's voice just doesn't sit in the original one any more. And after 20 or so years of fronting a band, you'd expect some change (and improvement). That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd taken some lessons, but it's also possible he's just one of the unbelievably lucky people who end up sounding really good without ever having any real training. The fact that he sings the falsetto in 21 guns an octave down when they do it live makes me suspect he hasn't had much training, and his top range isn't actually strong enough for him to pull it off a lot of the time.
