NoVaCaInE! Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I dont know why people are so surprised or in fact looking for confirmation. There was a sticker on the cd saying "including know your enemy and 21 Guns" I think that speaks for itself
Farah Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 nice pic. xPjk.. i think it's a really good song and don't see why it shouldn't be a single... green day songs never get boring to me anyway.. soo...
Nele Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 How surprising....But anyway, cool to know that there'll be a new single soon.
gmcloughlin Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I love this song, but they're gonna ruin it by making it a single :/
Eirik Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Why are people concerned with overplaying and stuff? It just seems dumb to me..
gdpunk2 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 From the first time I heard it, I knew it ould be single, just sounded like one. I do think EJN will come out at some point though. Also on the front cover of the CD it says 'Featuring Know Your Enemy & 21 Guns'
SlappyDJ1 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 i dont understand singles if theyre released after the album comes out. just buy the album. the only real use for singles is an exuse for a way to release b-sides.
Bastard of 1967 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 21 Guns is more like the WMUWSE.But, it is like Boulevard in the sense that it's the second single and it's a slower ballad type. If they release Last Night on Earth as a fourth single, presumably after East Jesus Nowhere, then that would be more like the WMUWSE as opposed to 21 Guns. But whatever, all these comparisons are doing my head in. It's interesting to note that the order of releases are following a similar pattern to AI though.edit: personally I think they should release Peacemaker to throw everyone off a bit.21 Guns makes sense as a single even though I don't think it's the best song on the album. The pace, tempo, and epic nature of it really contrasts against the arena-class power-rock KYE and thus gives you a more complete sense of the "Green Day Lite" flavor that the album has overall; it follows the AI release pattern; and the song carries Green Day's hallmark double-meaning lyrical style -- in the album story, Christian and Gloria reconcile after they've trashed the city and hit bottom...and at the same time the song speaks to world events because the U.S. has been at war with half the known universe since shortly after 9/11, which a lot of us have just plain had it with.Peacemaker is rapidly becoming one of my favorites on the album. The music is unique for Green Day and amazing to listen to, and the lyrics are...well, what can I say? Billie Joe at his best? Still can't see it as a single tho -- the lyrical content is very, very violent, moreso than KYE, so I'd imagine that even some modern rock radio stations would have some indigestion problems with it.I'm surprised they're not releasing Last Night on Earth...great song, and it would get them some fresh exposure on the same light-rock radio stations that played them back in their Nimrod days (Good Riddance).
Chad is Rad Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I can't wait to see what kind of video they come up with for this song. I think East Jesus Nowhere would be a better choice for the second single, but 21 Guns might be more successful. It might be more appealing to a wider variety of people.
apocalipstick Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Man, totally saw that coming. Kinda bums me out, I'm probably gonna get sick of it after hearing it everywhere!
norcalgreendayfan Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Man, totally saw that coming. Kinda bums me out, I'm probably gonna get sick of it after hearing it everywhere!Yeah I did too, 21 guns is a good song and really dont mind it as being the next single, I just hope East Jesus Nowhere will be the third one though
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I'm curious at how the video for 21 Guns will turn out. I can't really think of anything else but just them performing, or something like WMUWSE (considering the 21-gun-salute, with clips of that or something, and sometimes the guys performing)....I'm probably just being really out of inspiration here, but for some other songs I can perfectly think of what the video will turn out, but not for this....mm.
The Punk Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Why are people concerned with overplaying and stuff? It just seems dumb to me..Because overplaying a song on the radio kinda takes the feel from it, being able to hear it everywhere and not resting your brain from that... Just see "Enter Sandman" as an example: A metal masterpiece turned into a boring song
rinu Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 ugh why is it a single?why couldnt East Jesus Nowhere be a single?strongly agree this is nice too but cant beat EJN
forget_me_nots Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Because overplaying a song on the radio kinda takes the feel from it, being able to hear it everywhere and not resting your brain from that... Just see "Enter Sandman" as an example: A metal masterpiece turned into a boring songI NEVER listen to the radio, so Enter Sandman is still awesome to me. But even if I heard 21 Guns on the radio all the time, i'd still love it. I mean, yeah, I could see it annoying people when it's on the radio 24/7 and people are singing along all the time and whatever, but I'm not sure, if you get sick of a song so easily, if you should be listening to it in the first place. IMO. :/
farley drexel hatcher Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I don't get this title, where is the 'videoclip'?
norcalgreendayfan Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I hope the video (if there is one) isn't about war.Why do I have a feeling it will be about war or something related or the idea of school shootings come up interesting thought that
RogueBreakdown Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Yay Btw, it would be epic if they'd release Peacemaker as a single! It would make a great music vid as well hell to the yeah!! personally I really wished they didn't have 21 guns as a single... It's amazing but I love to see some other songs as a singles more
NickD Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 i dont understand singles if theyre released after the album comes out. just buy the album. the only real use for singles is an exuse for a way to release b-sides..... a single is released to promote the album... not for releasing b-sides. most groups/bands don't even have b-sides. they release the single to get more publicity for the album they spent a shit-load of money making... it's to keep the album selling... not everyone buys the record the first week it's sold
Trina Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Yeah, here in Spain is the single nowIs it out on cd though? If so, do you have any more details, like extra tracks, the back cover, etc?Why are people concerned with overplaying and stuff? It just seems dumb to me..Yeah, it really is annoying. If you don't want to listen then don't ffsi dont understand singles if theyre released after the album comes out. just buy the album. the only real use for singles is an exuse for a way to release b-sides. ?It's to promote the album so people buy it...
Sara Armstrong Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 why all the "21 guns" hate all of a sudden? idgi.i, however, am stoked that this is going to be a single. it's going to be huge.
themole Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 21 Guns makes the most logical next choice, if not somewhat formulamatic (is that even a word?) move.My guess?KYE > 21G > EJN > Restless Heart > AE
