.:Whatsername:. Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Then you simply must watch a video of Homecoming live, watching Mike sing his part is spectacular! My favourite is Storytellers but it's not on youtube but this'll do, mmm yeah:E6_AWCwmfFgThanks for that! I really was never sure and I never thought to watch a live version of Homecoming. This thread has pretty much turned into a Mike appreciation thread. I love it.
Jaymee!! Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I was surprised when I heard his voice. It sounds NOTHING at all like his regular speaking voice. But it's a very good thing! That half of the song is my favourite
Nele Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I always adored Mike's singing. He should seriously do it more often. And I wonder why always Billie sings the lyrics to his songs...It sounds NOTHING at all like his regular speaking voice. But it's a very good thing! I thought the same.
jesus the rage guy Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Sorry if anyone feels there shouldn't be a thread for this, but I think it deserves one. Feel free to close it if anyone thinks it shouldn't have a thread. So who else thought that Mike did a really great job on his little part in American Eulogy? I loved the verses he sang, and I think it was a huge step forward for Mike. I feel like now that he has actually sang without Billie, I've realized how much I actually love his voice. It adds a new feel to Green Day for me, and I think this moment will be really special live. Hopefully Mike comes out on the little podium and sings his part, it should be great. The energy that he puts into it just blew me away. What do you guys think?agree with you
Bastard of 1967 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 someone referenced that mike sings in ha ha you're dead... Where? He wrote the song and his vocals are all over it. He doesn't solo, he just sings along with the rest of the band on that one, but instead of being left in the background during the chorus, his vocals are mixed so that they stand out over the others. Listen close.
Mrs.Kerplunk Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 he's not such a good singer then Billie nowbut anyway - his voice is sooo great (:I like it when he talks and i LOVE it when he sings Go Mikeeey (:
Ingrid Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I like it but it always sounds a bit to shouty for me and there is no melody in his voice. That's my opinion anyway. But I kinda like it anyway.... hahathis
forget_me_nots Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I honestly wouldn't have really noticed it was Mike singing if I hadn't seen this. He sounds so much like BJ, it takes a closer listen to tell the difference. To me, anyway. I didn't even know it was him in Homecoming. There he sounded *exactly* like BJ, he really did. I had to watch the live video to see for myself. O_O
The Punk Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 He wrote the song and his vocals are all over it. He doesn't solo, he just sings along with the rest of the band on that one, but instead of being left in the background during the chorus, his vocals are mixed so that they stand out over the others. Listen close.Yep, now i can hear him, after hearing the tone of his voice. He sings that "epic" chorus on the song, very proeminent in the mixThanks I honestly wouldn't have really noticed it was Mike singing if I hadn't seen this. He sounds so much like BJ, it takes a closer listen to tell the difference. To me, anyway. I didn't even know it was him in Homecoming. There he sounded *exactly* like BJ, he really did. I had to watch the live video to see for myself. O_OMe too. i've seen the credits and stuff but he sounds too much like bille on "nobody likes you"
forget_me_nots Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Wait.....this might sound stupid, but I honestly don't know.....is it Mike singing in Governator???
Nele Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Wait.....this might sound stupid, but I honestly don't know.....is it Mike singing in Governator??? yep
forget_me_nots Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Thanks. After hearing him on American Eulogy, I figured it was him.
CarmenPunkGirl Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 i really like that part, so yea, he did a great job

bjrules Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I liked it! He was really great. It was something different from billie for a change. I would have liked to hear Tre sing somewhere as well though.
susanananananaa Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Mike did an excellent job with this song! I think his vocals are so much better now than they were in Nobody Likes You.I'd like to see them singing lead together more too, rather than Mike simply doing back up.I concur!
Guest Brian Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Wait.....this might sound stupid, but I honestly don't know.....is it Mike singing in Governator??? Yep, he sang on Governator and also a few of The Network songs. Honestly I think that Mike sounds more like Mike on American Eulogy than on Governator or The Network.
tq6993 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I love the chorus of Modern World, and I love the verses, and I love Mike's singing. Deff. one of the best songs on the album. Half the time i just listen to it to hear Mike say "Well, I don't give a shit about the modern age!" EDIT: There are tons of "ooooooo's" (if you know what they hell im talking about) in 21st CB, does Mike sing those too? They seem a little high-pitched for him.
.Holly Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 yeh I agree with whoever said the song suits his voice more. I hope this gets played live, I'd love to see and hear him sing it
