Rezurgam Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Mike did fantastic on the verses. Imo, the repetitive chorus in both parts is what pulls the song back.
AmericanIdiot222 Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Mike did great. His vocals provide a good contrast to Billie's. Hell, All 3 of the boys should sing. Billie can do a verse, Mike can do a verse and Tre can do a verse.
Velocity Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 To me those verses sound a lot like a sped-up "Clash City Rockers", and I believe The Clash are Mike's favourite band, so perhaps he asked to sing that part because he really liked it.Either way, epic win for Mike. Oh wow, yeah, they really do sound alike. I never noticed that before but it makes total sense actually.I think these are the best vocals Mike's ever done. In the past he really just yelled whatever lead vocals he had and I didn't really appreciate it that much. But he's a lot more melodic this time around. idk why but I love the line, "I want to take a ride to the great divide"
Tiffx Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Mike did a great job on AE, one of my favourites parts on the album. They should split vocals like that more often and I will love them even more.
steve2606 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I agree. His voice really compliments that part of the song. I was kind of hoping for a b-side like "Governator" again this time round. His vocals were great on that too.
Haydée Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 he did a fantastic job.I love it <3aww! 0 votes for No
WrenchNinja Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 His parts were awesome. His voice fit in so well with the song. Brilliant job.
Boston Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I loved Mike's part. I've always liked his voice, he's just not as comfortable with flexing his skills as Billie is.
Bastard of 1967 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 So who else thought that Mike did a really great job on his little part in American Eulogy?Mike owns this song. The last time we heard him taking the mic solo for any measureable length of time was doing the "Nobody likes you" piece of Homecoming on AI, and before then on numbers like "Ha Ha You're Dead"...both of which certainly earned him an "A" for effort and some advice that he should stick to playing the bass. I'm glad he didn't listen to it (and am especially glad that he either pushed himself or got pushed to improve his singing) -- he sounds great on this song. Also if you saw the UK Channel 4 Abbey Road segments -- see how much Mike has become involved in harmonizing with Billie Joe now? It's really an important part of the 60s/70s power-pop-punk sound they were trying to achieve on 21CB, and they pull it off really well.
Mellow Dramatic Jeff Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I love Mike's part. He has a much more grudge-like voice then Billie, more Punk Rock feel to it. I love how it changes from mike, to billie, to mike and both in harmony in the ending chorus.
Bloody Mascara Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I love Mike's part. He has a much more grudge-like voice then Billie, more Punk Rock feel to it. I love how it changes from mike, to billie, to mike and both in harmony in the ending chorus.I lovelovelove the punk rock feel of this song when mike starts belting it out. When I first heard the song, it reminded me of the "haji was a punk part" of Oi to the world by No doubt.Just got the feel of that song, one of my favorites.
vegetarianxorgasm Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I actually love his voice. It's the right kind of voice to sing "fuck". I just love his voice when he uses that word.
Walking Alone Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Mike really should sing 20-25 percent of the time on lead...Billie Joe is amazing, but it would give the band another dimension because while I don't think Mike is better vocally, he brings a different thing to the table.
Jack96 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 hmm let me think HELL YES i love that part of the song!!!!!!!!!
Trina Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Billie Joe said in a recent interview he wants Mike to write some songs and stuff. Maybe he would sing them too? I'd hope so.I love Mike's voice and I love his vocals to Modern World. :]
.Yoshi. Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I loved Mike's part in the song. His voice fits the lyrics perfectly.
TheBullwinkle Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I wish Mike sang more often. But I guess that's what The Network is for.
.:Whatsername:. Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Liked him more on Homecoming to be honest. But he did a great job on Eulogy. This was posted on the first page, but I have to say... AH HA! EVER since American Idiot came out I've been wondering, and wondering, everytime I hear Homecoming, if that was Mike or Billie singing at that part. I was never sure because I knew that Tre sang his part on Homecoming, but I could never ever tell if Mike sang his part too or if Billie just did it. My long time question has been answered.
belinda jane Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 i really like his part in american eulogy. i think it suits his voice well.
