Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I didn't even notice most of those similiarities, and I'm also not going to look for them. Some songs sound a bit like BOBD, yeah, and Little Girl sounds like Misery too, but that's just the same style, like somebody already pointed out. The start of LOTAG sounds indeed like Whatsername. And at the start of Christian's Inferno, when there's only drums, I'm almost waiting for Mike to go "uuhh" as in Governator. But none of it really bothers me.
DeJennsitized Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Yeah!,I think the same way.I'm not talking about chords similarity but the style in which 21 Guns progresses is very much similar to BOBDThat's the word I'm looking for! When I saw them perform KYE, I noticed that Jason plays the majority of the solo, and Billie plays the end of it, just like with American Idiot. They're completely different songs, but the structure of some of the songs 21CB do remind me of older songs. I'm not complaining, though.
tuwlol Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Green Day songs sounding like other Green Day songs?Gee, who would've thought?
Katarina. Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I don't hear most of the mentioned similarities, and I don't care anyway. I like the songs, I love the album, so I'm happy
stuart telegraph Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Since we're on the topic of similar sounding song, lets go way back to 39 smooth. I happened to notice you can sing the lyrics to paper lanterns and the judges daughter with the melody of dry ice or i suppose any combination of the three for that matter. Anyway, as to 21st CB, i first noticed 21 guns and bobd, mostly the drumroll into the second verse and the same note pounding after the interlude.
belinda jane Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 yeah, i heard similarites too but it doesn't really bother me that much to make a thread about it.most bands create songs that sound the same to other songs they have created.s'what i've realised anyway.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I noticed this, but I don't think you can read anything into it. What I will say is that The Ramones were proud to admit to playing "the same song" again and again, and Blink-182 do play the same song over and over, although I haven't heard any of them admit to that. AC/DC also admit to using basically the same 5 chords in all their songs. There is no band with their roots in punk who haven't ripped off their own work or some other punk band's work. It's the style of music, there's only so many chords and so many ways you can hammer them in punk.Life During Wartime=Too Much Too Soon=Static Age solo. The difference is Green Day may have used their own chord progressions, but it sounds different, it's quite obviously a different style of music to when they used these ideas in earlier work. The only similarity in song style is 21 Guns and Boulevard of Broken Dreams. The structure is the same, the feel of the song is the same. And as I said in some other thread, at least they're only ripping themselves off. Listen to the Enemy's Music For The People and count the number of blatant Clash, Blur, Beatles and Pulp ripoffs. They tried to rewrite classics on there, London Calling, Let It Be, The Universal and Common People. Four of the most famous British songs ever. About as un-subtle as it's possible to get.
Peace and Rainbows Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Guys come one! they are good songs so why should we be complaining! If they sound like a good older song then shouldn't it sound better when the remisence of it is in the new songs, Stop complaining they are awesome songs!
son Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 i get reminded of westbound sign during during the similar verse sound of deadbeat holiday in american eulogy....and green day does use alot of recycled choruses. listen to at the library and geek stink breath. most of geek stink breath is a slower lower tone but similar melody to the intro riff. another being basket case and one of my lies. i dont care at all, they are creative at doing it

Tek Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Its because Billie only knows 3 chords or because all green day songs sound the sameamirte?
Fulano Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I love the similarities between these new song and old songs...I love old green day, and this new green day i'm loving too...
suicidexmakeover Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 i don't know but that is one of the things i love about the album. it's like all the albums combined and made better. You can hear quite a lot of misery-esque stuff too.
adamshred Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 some of the songs on the new album are epic-ly fantastic but i cant help but sigh at the average quality of some songs after 5 years waiting.
suicidexmakeover Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 some of the songs on the new album are epic-ly fantastic but i cant help but sigh at the average quality of some songs after 5 years waiting.in what way is anything average? the producing of it is really good i thought and i can't see how you can say the actually quality is bad.
