I think you're going a bit too far here to be honest. Personally, I believe the album is utter crap, and I believe that a lot of the people who have bought the album were probably 'disappointed'. Of course, I was intelligent enough to listen to it online instead of being the fool that went out and bought it first.

you are utter crap. I downloaded illegaly the album and then ibought it yesterday... and im preety much satisfied with the outcome

No need to get personal over someone elses opinion, dude.

Well, clearly on this forum I am in the minority, for obvious reasons. In the UK in general, I don't think I am.

So far you're the first of around 25 people I know who have heard the album to say anything other than at least "this is good" in the UK. Your are, my friend, the minority.

Oops sorry, now I'm slagging off personal taste! I really hate rap music but I wouldn't go as far to waste time slagging it off to people who like it!

I do agree that most people in the UK don't like Green Day as most people in the UK are basically morons who think Pop Idol contestants are famous, that Katie Price is a celebrity and the rubbish in the UK top 40 is actually music.

Ok question from the Eminem video, is Brett Michaels actually bald? never seen him hatless!

Woah calm down! The UK top 40 basically mirrors the US, except without Miley Cyshitus and half the crap rap.

Personally I think Jillie Boe is brave for expressing THAT oppinion on THIS forum. I love the album, but if I didn't, I wouldn't say so, not on here at least. My house would get egged or I'd be pelted with potatoes or something. Very scary thoughts. lolz.

Anyway, good for the guys, I'm happy that this albums doing good. Well not good actually, great, but I knew it would.

HMV chart manager John Hirst said: “This is one of the biggest rock events of the year so far.

“Chances are Green Day will sell the best part of 75,000 copies of 21st Century Breakdown in just two days to guarantee the No 1 spot and make it the fastest-selling album of 2009.”

Yummy.

Edit:

AHHH.

My efforts at being useful have been thwarted.

Still awesome news, nonetheless! :D

Thats awesome :woot:

Do you guys think it can beat American Idiot in sales?

no. I think this will be sth. like Insomniac just a little more sales.

that's fantastic. it's truly an amazing album.

im betting it beats American idiot sales!

and i love this album , not because its by green day, but especially because its by them. I would still love it had any other band made it.

What do you mean by 'the first of around 25 people' you know to have heard this album? If you're referring to people from the UK on this forum, then obviously that would be the case. If however, you mean by people offline such as your friends, I don't think you can come to such a conclusion, seeing as though it is most likely that you hang around with people with similar interests and tastes as you. I'm pretty sure I'm not in the minority, but forget about that, I love how you and others say 'minority' as if that were to mean that I must be wrong, in that, this album sucks arse.

Good for you. Now grow up and stop acting like a little boy.

But the whole point of this thread is to say that it's the fastest selling album in the UK so far this year. So ... that doesn't make much sense.

Well, obviously you didn't get what I was saying. First of all, calling it 'utter crap' is not taking it too far in my opinion. You're the second person to have said this without giving any reasons to back up that statement. I'm assuming the only reason you're saying that is because you like the album. Just because a lot of people have bought the album, doesn't mean that they 'like' the album or think that 'the album is good'. It simply means that a lot of people have bought the album in a short period of time, many of which haven't even heard it yet. That was basically all I wanted to say.

After how a huge number of people reacted to 'American Idiot' they have been crazy over Green Day ever since, of course loads of people are going to buy the album. They have been waiting five years! Of course the album is going to be selling fast! If I was some 14 year old kid who loved the AI album, and have been a fan ever since I would be the first person to go out and buy it, as well as all of other Pre-AI fans. That's a lot of people! Remember, Green Day only really 'broke' into the UK with American Idiot; this is kind of like their second album for most people.

I'd be extremely interested to know what you consider 'good music' if you don't like the album. I think it's amazing and I like a really wide range of music.

Perhaps there's other people that feel they have the 'intelligence' to understand the spirit of the album the same as you feel you were intelligent enough not to buy it.

I can't say what 'good music' is, no one can. I'm well aware that for every album out there, there is someone who immensely dislikes it, and there are others who, as you put it 'have the intellignece (I'm sure there's a better word) to understand the spirit of the album'. I've felt that, but not in this so called 'album'. That was my only point, and even if I simply said 'I don't like it', I would have still recieved the same backlash. Obviously, people on this forum have problems tolerating other people's opinions. It's quite sad to be honest. Maybe this is the sign for them to get off the internet and actually start talking to people more. I'm sure if people loved this album so dearly and knew truely how great it was, they wouldn't need to result to insults. Oh well, I don't care, the rest of you should seriously calm down and listen to your silly Green Day album or something, if I really pissed you off that much.

No, I mean as in people in real life. I excluded forum/internet people.

I know only one other person that really cares about music. Alot of the people I'm friends with vary from pure jock to pure geek, and our interests, especially music interests vary. One of the things that is good about Green Day is that their music isn't restricted to being liked by only one type of person, they make music that appeals to all. And appeal it does. Maybe 6 of those 25ish are more into rap/dance, but they have AI, and like KYE, 2 of them have bought the album. The people that like this album come from all walks of life, so yes, thank you, I can come to that conclusion.

I don't mean minority as a bad thing. I'm simply stating that the majority like it. What isn't the majority is the minority. Logic that is.

I think, objecticvely, this is a more creative album than AI, and it's just as catchy. The songs sound like they have been given more consideration and there is a clear evolution in their sound. In a technical sense, I believe 21cb is one of Green Day's bst albums. Whether is appeals to someone is, of course, subjective.

Anyone think it will debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200? I'm having doubt with Eminem's new album and rap and hip hop being very popular here in the US of A. I was surprised when Kanye West's new album debuted higher than Chinese Democracy. And that was the most anticipated rock album of all time.

Nice to see Know Your Enemy, which is seen as "the worst song on the album" by the majority of users here, is STILL at number one on the modern rock charts, and number 2 on the mainstream rock charts after a month.

:woot: Congrats, Green Day :woot:

To be honest the new Eminem album was extremely disappointing. He does the same thing every album. People still buy it and act like he's some sort of god. I liked "The Eminem Show". It's one of my favorite albums but this was just disgusting. That Indian accent he does omg I wanted to choke him.

Eminem's probably will because the retards having been dying for their dose of same old music by him. He really needs to start something new. He has the potential. This new album is his worst EVER. But it will get praised and will debut at number 1. I'm not comparing it to his old stuff I like to let albums stand on their own two feet but this just sucked. It sounds like crappier versions of his old stuff with a retarded Indian accent. If Green Day debut at number 1 I will be pleasantly surprised though. It should but I kinda think it won't.

I don't want it to outsell 'American Idiot.' As much as I like this album, I don't think it can quite grasp what that album had.

You're just making a wide sweeping statement and assuming that just because you think this album is shit then the underlying reason explaining why it's selling so fast is because people are just excited about Green Day coming back after American Idiot... not excited about the fact that they are releasing newly inspired music that has taken their musical ability to a whole new level.

Just maybe there is something special about this record that has led to it selling so fast. It's not like this is the first time people are hearing Green Day since American Idiot, most of their songs leaked on the radio and online prior to release.

I do respect the fact that you don't like it though. But that doesn't mean the only reason the abum is selling so well so far is because Green Day fans just want to latch onto a new record for the sake of it being Green Day, not taking the actual content of the album into account.

Well I'm from the UK and I don't get this feeling. From reviews and magazine articles and stuff I've read I've thought there's been a positive vibe from England tbh. I also listened to some of the songs online before the album was released, and I'm by no means dissappointed. I'm enjoying the album even more than I anticipated!

I really hope the album does sell well, and it's nice to hear of good music actually doing well for a change!
